“A sanctuary”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed yesterday NEW

From the grand architecture, the selection of fittings, the position right on the sea and the excellent dining facilities, this is exceptional.
The staff are genuinely lovely caring people and help to make the stay so memorable.
I couldn't imagine staying anywhere else if we return to this lovely city.

Room Tip: We were on the tenth floor so the ocean view is exceptional.

When you read about the E&O you get a view of impeccable service in Somerset Maughan surroundings. Unfortunately the truth is irritatingly different. Writing from a suite in the heritage wing, the room is large and an attempt at period appropriate furnishing. But the bottom line is it is ordinary and not especially luxurious. Follow this up with the balcony is filthy and obviously never maintained. Like many malaysian hotels E&O knows roughly what service looks like but not completely. A classic example is not being able to get coffee and cake at 9.30pm because the cake had been put away. Service does not include this scenario in its lexicon, even in a three star hotel let alone the E&O. Needless to say I am disappointed in a number of small ways that overall suggest I need to look elsewhere for a luxury getaway in Peneng.

Room Tip: Only select rooms in the Victory Annex.

Arrived a 3pm and was told, (after submitting my credit card) that the room would not be ready until 4pm. Ok, not a massive problem as we had only flown in from KL and could pass some time with a bite to eat and a few drinks in the bar. 4pm came and i went to reception to ask about the room, I'm sure they had forgotten us as the reception staff looked at each other and hurriedly got the room cards ready..

Apart from that it was a very enjoyable stay. stayed in Mutiara suite in old wing, great sea view but was hoping for a balcony :( Good location for walking into the old part of town.
Rooms were spacious and clean. I have to say one of the BEST SHOWERS in any hotel, great pressure and heat..

Ate at the bar a few times with our bit of 3 who loved the fish and chips. Seating in the bar is a not the most comfortable.
Breakfast excellent with loads of local and international options.
Wi fi in room good. Could also pick up wifi in all other parts of the hotel we went to.

Pool was fine. Didn't go to gym but looked well equipped.

Used the business centre to print boarding tickets which was a handy free option.

15 mins taxi to Gurney drive for seafood restaurants. 10 mins walk to Cornwallis Fort
All in all very happy.

Stayed in the Victory Annexe and the room and bathroom are a great size!! Buffet breakfast is very good and the penang char kway teow is fried to order!! Staff are friendly and not snooty/stuffy as similar places can be. My only small complaint would be the rather narrow single beds provided. The plus to staying here is that there is a free shuttle to sister hotel Lone Pine in Batu Ferringhi to enjoy their facilities and the beach. Will stay here again.

We stayed in the Victory Annex and the building is grand and marvellous. This annex is a modern extension of the original heritage suite but the matching of styles is very impressive. The infinity pool is amazing (could be a bit warmer) and the room, especially, the bathroom, is devine. This could easily be one of the finest hotels in the world if it wasn't for the service. The staff seem disenchanted and gloomy, particularly around that Sarkies restaurant area. The ones at the front desk tried but seemed overwhelmed when busy. The staff near the pool were on their mobiles most of the time. The Planters Lounge Staff were actually quite friendly and should be commended. Overall, though, there was a weird discrepancy between the quality of the building and the vibe of the service. It wasn't bad enough to spoil the holiday, it just could have been better and really make the hotel a spectacular place to be.

Room Tip: The Victory Annex rooms are brilliant

Brilliant Hotel. Really enjoyed our stay and would highly recommend this hotel. Stayed in August 2014 in the Victory Annex on the 12th floor. The room was exceptional and had an outstanding ocean view. The pool located on the 6th floor was breathtakingly beautiful and the breakfast each morning was superb.... The hotel staff could not have been more helpful and I would have no hesitation in recommending the E&O!

Had our family gathering here recently. It was top class from start till end. Service was excellent... the buffet breakfast and dinner was awesome and the room was good. Had a bit of a problem with water puddles in the bathroom - flow problem. The housekeeping was quick to solve the isssue. The view was breathtaking. We all stayed at the heritage wing. Went out once for lunch at a nearby Indian restaurant. Don't ask for any tips on places to go coz none of us wanted to leave the hotel compound. Room was nearby the pool. Kids had a great time. It was decided that next year will be a repeat of this year.
