A month before my check in to this hotel, i tried my luck approach the hotel request they assist me make over my room..Reason? i am going have married propose to my girl friend, giving her a surprise on our holiday break. The relevant personnel replied with yes they could help me on the plan.

Result ?? Look at the photo attached, it was so much lovely and perfectly decorated. My girl friend has get surprised and shocked a moment she open the door, at first sight she thought reception has assigned us a wrong unit, hesitated a moment, until i take out the flower and ring asking "would you married me?" she start to smile very sweetly.

i am not going to describe the room condition, the size, the cleanliness and bed and etc...one word i would say is PERFECT !! and nice sea breeze too.

The hotel has help us reserve a romantic find dining dinner at Restaurant 1885, ground floor to their heritage building. Although the food is little bit pricey, but the chef has make up a excellent best combination of selection, from a appetizer to a soup and the main course, by putting into our mouth you can feel the chef has make his best on preparing the great food. Very happy.

Infinity pool on 6th floor of new wing, quiet, relax and the wind would just blown your stress away.

Breakfast with lot of choice, from a Malaysian breakfast delicacies to an English style of bread toast, combine with great lavazza coffee, this is marvellous.

Generosity and charm abound in this very beautiful waterfront colonial-style hotel. We enjoyed the ambiance of the Victory Wing, with its 6th floor infinity pool, mega-high ceilings, large rooms and cooling sea breezes through the balcony doors. We could have stayed longer and continued to appreciate the generous extras, such as the complimentary drinks and canapes every evening and the wonderful food...

Room Tip: We loved the Victory wing and our very quiet room was on the 7th floor

Dear Valued Guest,

It gives us great pleasure to hear that you enjoyed your accommodation experience
in our new Victory Annexe and its infinity pool located at level 6. The pool is indeed
a beautiful sanctuary for relaxing after a tiring trip or to start the day with a refreshing
dip.

Many guests appreciate the complimentary cocktail and canapés available from
5pm – 7pm at the Planters Lounge and we are glad you found it to be the same.

We hope that you will visit us again soon and look forward to welcoming you back.

The E&O hotel is one of the best hotels we have stayed in in travels which have taken us throughout Europe, Asia and north and south America.

We stayed in the Victory annex and the facilities are as have been described by previous reviewers: good size rooms; large bathrooms; balcony with sea views; and, the cocktail (two) hours in the Planter's lounge. We also had more than adequate breakfasts in the lounge.

We found all staff to be excellent. The quality service commenced at the time our taxi driver from the airport dropped us at the Heritage reception area rather than the Victory Annexe lobby. One staff member very happily escorted us to the correct area.

We found staff in all areas of the hotel to be as accommodating and cheerful as that fist person, especially Salim when we were checking out.

We may not have gone to Penang were it not for the reputation of the E&O. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay. For us the hotel lived up to our high expectations.

There was nothing to be missed in this wonderfull hotel: perfect service, large room with great bath, amazing views from balcany and a lot of extras you would like to get from a hotel, but you seldom actually get: Free softdrinks from minibar, coffee from Lavazza coffe machine in room, all little ameneties in the bathroom, perfectly served breakfast on a veranda with great views - fresh squeezed juices included. And the athmosphere of a hotel with great history lives on in the new Victoria annex.

There is not much to be improved, hopefully the service stays on the high level. We enjoyed our 1-night-stay very much!

Room Tip: All rooms in Victoria annex will have seaview. Ours was on 7th floor and it was just great!

Very nice location, stunning view. Chose the heritage wing, more character than the new wing. Athmosphere at breakfast not comparable to the style of heritage area. Somehow contradictory...
High prices... But definetely a must see and stay.

My husband and I have spent 3 wonderful weeks at our favourite hotel in July. It was a delight to catch up with staff who over the years have become our dear friends.

It has been a time to recuperate from a serious illness and enjoy peace and quiet, at an immaculate Hotel offering old world charm, wonderful warm weather, plus excellent service and food.

Staff at the E&O from senior management to grounds and maintenance staff all work towards making the guests stay a memorable experience, always striving for excellence and continuous improvement. Nothing is too much trouble and if a problem is ever encountered then every opportunity is taken to resolve the matter immediately often going generously beyond the guests expectations.

Mr Harold Rainfroy and Mr Jaya Nazreen are continuing in their roles after their first year of service. They should be congratulated for their commitment to the Hotel, overseeing the delivery of such a high level of customer service and for leading their teams in such a respectful manner.

Mr Jimmy Lee's (Rooms Operations Manager) attention to detail from booking accommodation, providing excellent services through his reception team, butler service, housekeeping, pool and grounds staff should be congratulated. His team consistently perform to a high standard.

Mazlan who is Mr Lee’s assistant, Zul, Salim (Butlers) and Ming Y (Guest Service Agent) could not do enough for us to make our stay comfortable and enjoyable. We are very sad to hear Salim is leaving the Hotel. He will be greatly missed.

We would love to thank every staff member especially by name as all are so deserving of recognition, but unfortunately space does not provide me to do so. However, there are a few more I must mention and highlight their areas of expertise.

Sarkies Restaurant: Chef Kalimutu surprised us with an amazing local dish every morning. His genuine happiness at our appreciation of such culinary delights made breakfast something to look forward to each day. Chef Loganathan also went out of his way to provide us with excellent service even making our special herbal tea to aid my recuperation. Chef Abdullah took the opportunity to cook for us when the other Chefs were on leave. Also, Traditional Afternoon tea is a delightful experience in the surroundings of the 1985 Restaurant. Excellent value.

Planters Lounge: A perfect place to relax and enjoy a quiet drink with spectacular views of the sea. Christopher (Manager) offered outstanding service. We were also impressed by how respectful and engaging he was with all his staff. He leads by good example. Also Izzy, Duminda, Daniel, Foo, Roy and Manu all stood out offering exceptional service. Thanks to Christopher and his Team. A special mention for Alfred who makes the Farquhar Bar a treat to encounter.

Josman and Shaik (pool attendants) serving regular ice water, cool towels and anything else we needed. The pool offers peace and tranquillity. We always enjoy a catch up on the latest places to dine and share a joke with our friends.

Once again, it was very disappointing to observe many guest who were so rude and impossible to please. The staff should be congratulated for tolerating such unacceptable behaviour. Guests often refer and compare other 5 star hotels to the E&O. They omit to disclose the difference in room tariffs. We have stayed at many of the mentioned 5 star hotels and note the tariffs were three or four times E&O rates. I suggest guests be more appreciative. We are blessed to find such a retreat. Thank you to all, we have already made future reservations.
