I had touble finding much of a music scene in Penang, but then I stumbled across B@92 eat and drink at 92 George street Georgetown. 7 hours later I left entirely impressed. Tasty food, good cold beer. Great couple Aleksandar and Jun run cafe and have 2 lovely young sons. Very welcoming. They are full of local knowledge (as well as being very worldly travellors themselves) of what to do (and what not to do). And the best music collection I have seen while abroad. Those with precious personalities may not always enjoy the humour. But it was all in jest and I laughed all night. I could not recommend more highly. Great place. Open until late.

We came across this place just by chance. It is very relaxing, clean and friendly. It is essentially whatever you want it to be- bar, coffee house, snack cafe. They are so friendly it is like entering the family home. Almost anything can be created, proper English tea and tasty sandwiches were a welcome change. Also good advice on what to see in Georgetown. Well worth a stop.
