Stayed at this place twice and it's really nice.
Beds are real comfortable and fitted with curtains to provide you with privacy. However, the curtains do result in a sticky situation where you need to choose between privacy and comfort. The bed is just so warm with the curtains drawn.
Toilets are clean and basic. Towels and shampoo are provided which was really nice. only downside was that their cold showers ain't really cold in the day but there's probably nothing much they could do due to the weather.
The common areas are nice with bean bags and cushions on the floor, together with chairs and benches. There are also two tables by the entrance which is a real good place to chill and watch the happenings by the small junction the hostel is located at. But do be aware that there are constant sightings of transexuals walking pass the lorong chulia road at night. If you're not interested, make sure she's a she before you approach.
Hostel is located in the middle of the georgetown heritage area, meaning everything is near but requires much walking. a good 10-20 minutes walk is enough for you to reach most places of interest or transport network. The road just 2 minutes walk from the Hostel is a Hawker street and serves up delicious food, as good as any other hawkers in penang, and is perfect for supper or dinner if you're lazy to walk.
For those that like to drink, there is a store which sells cheap beers, even by Malaysia standards. To acces the store, just turn left from the hostel, walk to the end of lorong chulia before turning right and follow the road till you see a small shop with people drinking outside.
Store may look a little shady though and opens only at night
The staffs varies throughout the day and ranges from the super friendly kind to the "I can't give a shiat" kind. so it's pretty much a hit or miss.
Generally, it's a nice decent little hostel with only 16 beds. Simple neat and clean in a good location.

We are within walking distance to famous hawker food stalls like Chulia Street, Kimberly Street, shopping malls like Komtar, Prangin Mall and 1st Avenue as well as morning markets like Chowrasta Market. All the ‘MUST SEE’ Heritage attractions within Penang are located around the guesthouse and can be easily explored by foot or by bicycle. We also offer bicycles for rent for the convenience of our guests. Roommates Penang is definitely the ‘smallest’, ‘newest’ and ‘funnest’ (we made this word up!) guesthouse on the island. Although the exterior and certain sections of the guesthouse still retains its prewar features, we did cracked our brains to come up with a simplistic yet modern interior so that you can fully enjoy an open concept guesthouse that only has a land space of 530 ft2. ... more less
