“awful dirty blanket & bed bug”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed July 6, 2012

Stayed for one night, in dormitory mix, booked via hostelbooker, paid 10% deposit, and the remaining balance via cash upon check in.

Ground floor is reception area, restaurant & bar, as well as a place for breakfast.
Second floor is locker, seating area, PC with internet, and dormitory room, shared bathrooms. Yes it’s nice to have dormitory room that comes in a box, it’s more private, but it’s totally tooooo damn cold at night. I barely could sleep for only 2 hour and found out that my left arm mark with bed bug bite.

Bed sheet is clean, but the Blanket is totally awful, just shake it before using, it’s sooo dirty, lots of dust and hair and hair, and hair again

Great thing only for breakfast time, it comes with one portion per person of two sunny side up (egg) apart of free flow bread & jam, coffee & tea

Lockers; bring you own keypad lock, as they do not provide it

This hostel is one of the best. There are quite a few hostels in this street Reggae is one of three in a row. When you are sitting in front it is hard not to meet people. I had some time to kill in Penang due to visa arrangements and was happy to spend it here. The hostel quality is high as well. The compartments really gives you some privacy when you want it and ensures a good rest whenever you need it. Once I had a late night out and slept in until 14:00. With the curtain closed and the AC on I had an excellent rest.

The free breakfast consists of eggs, toast and coffee/tea. Basic, but I liked it. There's pleny of area's to just chill out or meet people. The place was incredibly well cleaned. Not the cheapest option in Georgetown, but I would definitely stay here again.

I really enjoyed my time in Georgetown and love Reggae Penang. Its clean, festive, central, great staff, wonderful pod beds, free drinking water, free internet, great breakfast. The only problem is that its noisy at night and only quietens down really late.

The hostel is in an amazing location, is in a beautiful old building and has great pod style dorms. There is a great breakfast included. Everything is very clean. Overall, my fiance and I had a good stay. The one thing I disliked was that the staff were a little unfriendly and they recommended a terrible travel company for a bus journey to Thailand. We were promised something completely different to the experience we ended up having. So that was very disappointing.

Fabulous ! Had a great stay here. Stayed in the 4 bedroom dorm with all females (I'm female!), and it was cozy, 4 little cubicles, you feel like you're sleeping in a big cupboard. A small window at the head, and big heavy curtains so you can close off to the world, and make it all dark for a midday snooze to escape the heat.
A plug, private room light, and a bathroom style cupboard beside you. Lockers outside the room, as well as a cupboard in communal space that you can also lock with your own padlock.
A/c in the 4 bedroom dorms as well, makes its worth the 2 extra ringgit than the sleeps 10 non a/c dorms.
Is 30Rg a night with a 20Rg deposit, so that you return the towel etc ..
Breakfast included, tea, coffee, as much toast as you can fill your face with and they rotate the brekky every morning (omelete, french toast, scrambled eggs).
Food is overpriced, but the spicy chicken pizza was amazing !! we shared it one night - yum !
Watch out for Charlie - he's awesome, he loves everyone, he sings, he tries to remember your name, he greets you everytime he sees you, and has great english, and will advise you on anything !!
Enjoy the hostel ... bring your earplugs ... the music downstairs is loud well into the night !

Room Tip: Bring your own padlock and earplugs !!

Loved the capsule-style bed in the dorm. Really appreciated the privacy. It also had a mirror, 2 power outlets, and a light. Staff were okay, a bit of communication problem with the english. Nice location in the middle of Georgetown. Hot showers, free wifi, it's got the basics.

However the bar gets quite a bit noisy at night especially with the loud music and the walls of the dorms aren't very soundproof. There're also quite a few mosquitos flying around the dorms and the common area at night so be careful.

Very clean And friendly place. Good location. The only problem was the staff was not good at English at all other than the womAn who ran it who wasn't always there! When ordering food we had total confusion and also even checking in was a struggle because of the lack of understanding! Other than that the staff are very friendly and welcoming and they do try to help you in any way they can! Also it says there is no curfew but they do lock the doors at night which is awkward when you need to get back in.. The kl branch is far better!!
