“Clean hotel and Good Location”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 3, 2014

The staff of Campbell was very helpful and knowledgeable, especially the gentleman who greeted us for our late check-in (sorry, I forgot his name). The room was very clean and all amenities were there (coffee machine in room, complimentary iced tea and water in fridge, free internet). Breakfast is a-la-carte, from 8am to 12noon. Hotel is well located, tourists sight-seeing spots (e.g. Penang wall paintings), food courts, are within 10-15mins walking distance. Perhaps a suggestion is that the hotel can provide free slippers to its guests (fyi the hotel has a no-shoes policy except for the lobby/reception area and the restaurant). Good thing is all areas are very clean, so you can walk barefoot anytime :) Will definitely stay there again for our next trip to Penang.

Knowledgable and friendly staff make it easy to target in on brilliant hawker spots, cafes and local tourist activities like cooking classes. The decor is warm and stylish and the breakfasts are fabulous with a good range to choose from and served until 12. Make sure you go out onto the outside deck at dusk for some drinks so you can hear the nightly call to prayer and enjoy the sea breezes. We stayed 6nights and loved it.

Room Tip: The loft requires climbing some extra stairs to reach the bedroom but this is more than made up for...

Campbell House is an amazingly restored hotel. Our room on the 1st floor was fabulously decorated. The Nespresso machine along with complementary ice tea, milk, and water in the fridge are a big plus. Breakfast was very tasty (and open til 12.00!).

The staff is very friendly and professional, offering excellent advice about where to go, where to eat and what to see. Among the most helpful staff we’ve ever come across in any hotel in Asia!

We were not bothered by motorbikes driving up and down the street during the night. It’s true, it’s in the middle of Georgetown, so it can get noisy. For us, the location was great. Visited all of Georgetown on foot.

We had only booked one night but would have stayed 1 or 2 extra. We will definitely be back!

Driver was at the Penang airport to meet us as arranged. Everyone from the staff to the owners treated us as honored friends, offering excellent advice in where to go and what to see. The service was absolutely fabulous. You could tell the owners really enjoyed having people there.
The room was gorgeous! We stayed in the Opium room. The bathroom had both a shower and a footed tub - a chandelier over the tub and one of the best showers I have ever had. The room had a huge carved wood bed, inlaid with marble. Coffee (a Nespresso machine!) in the room with complementary ice tea, milk, and water in the fridge. A hair dryer was provided.
We had dessert and breakfast in the attached restaurant. Food was good in both instances. Do try the pineapple basil martini if you like that kind of thing. I thought it was delicious.
The only negative was for my husband, a light sleeper, the motorbikes driving up and down the street all night were annoying. I, however, heard nothing.

Just brilliant! We arrived having booked two nights on a whistle stop tour of Malaysia, after 15 mins in the hotel we shifted our plans and booked another night!

What can I say, welcoming & friendly owners, extremely knowledgeable and the most helpful staff I've ever come across in any hotel!

They can't do enough to help you! An amazing breakfast, the restaurant has fantastic food too! The rooms are Idilic, spotless and everything you could want!

All this makes Campbell House the perfect oasis from the hustle and bustle of Georgetown.

I can't recommend this great place enough! Book it now!

Great room, great staff, great restaurant, great location… we enjoyed our stay very much!
Campbell House was very comfortable, friendly and we were always happy to get back to this home away from home at the end of the day.

Room Tip: We stayed in the Opium Room and it is quite lovely. Perfect for two people.

I researched heritage hotels before choosing this one, but was still suprised at how good it is. Large rooms with high ceilings, great stretches of traditional shuttered windows, antiques everywhere. Our room had an old carved mirror, 10 feet high, to lust after... All the details were just right, down to the soap dish. There is a coffee machine in the room to help you greet the day!! We enjoyed a bottle of Italian wine on the roof terrace, cheerfully carried up by the staff in an ice bucket. Read a book from their library on the first floor landing and felt very comfortable doing it, which is not often the case in public areas of hotels. And, of course, it is right in the middle of the heritage area, so great walking and eating to be had.
