“Clean and Good Location”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed May 2, 2013

I went there with my kids and my family on March 2013. We got 2 rooms, a deluxe double room and a standard double room. Both with attached bathroom.

1st, about location. The hotel location is very good. Right in the heart of Chulia Street and very close proximity to amenities like 7-11 (< 5 mins walk), bus stops (< 5 mins walk) and food (< 8mins walk). Making travel to and fro the hotel very easy and very affordable for those with strict budget. The only setback is it is hidden inside a very long stretch of vehicle driveway (aprox. 100m) but it is very easy to find. CHECK with the hotel for direction on your 1st visit.

2nd, about transport. The hotel front desk can arrange cabs for airport transfer or general travel at a discounted rate (cheaper than by the meter). For the green activist, bicycle are also available for rent. Buses are regular along chulia street and the bus stop is very near on both directions. There are parking lots right at the doorsteps of the hotel lobby for those that are driving too.

3rd, about the room. For us the room is one of the important factor as we are travelling with kid. The room is very clean and neat but extremely compact. Housekeeping is done daily too even replenishing the distilled water provided. Using a electronic lock, means no worries about losing keys nor worry about forgetting to lock the doors. However, our room leaked (very minor at the corners near the bathroom) that night when a thunderstorm came but it is a 100 year old building. A small note, the bathroom came with a fix showerhead, so making bathing our 2 year old kid a little messy though fun for him.

Last, about the service. The staff are very friendly and very helpful. We came in late on the 1st day but the check in was very prompt and fast. She is also very professional in giving us a briefing and directions about our rooms. We are in our rooms in less than 10mins. The front desk even helped to arrange for a cab for our return trip to the airport (a last min decision by us). The cab came within 10mins.

To sum it up, the hotel has a very good location with great front desk staff and very clean. But to be very prepared for a small room if you have choose standard double. My suggestion, choose at least a deluxe double if your budget permits.

Room Tip: Choose a deluxe double room if budget permits. Size is much more comfortable with attached bathroom.

We loved this hotel. At first I thought the "all white look" was a bit odd but after staying there I appreciated it. The hotel was immaculately clean. The rooms are small but being white makes them seem large, bright & cheery. The rooms in the advertisements were exactly as pictured so no surprises at all. Now on to the staff. All the staff was extremely friendly but Anna and Kevin at reception were amazing. They are both a wealth of information and so very willing to help with anything we wanted. When we were leaving Anna ran out and bought us a noodle dish and cendol - she said we couldn't leave Malaysia without trying it.

The hotel is in the center of Chinatown and a fabulous place just to walk around. If you get tired take the free hop-on-hop-off bus that stops nearby. This bus takes you around the area and stops at many different stop of interest. Also make time to visit the Clan Jetty. It is so interesting.

Chinatown has fabulous food so it is not hard to find something you like and if you don't find what you like there go to Little India, a short walk away.

Thanks for the hospitality to you all we will definately be back some day.

Room Tip: We had a room just off the reception and the wifi was perfect and we didn't get any noise from i...

Very friendly and accommodating staff. Rooms were small, but modern and with great air condition. Added bonus: a flat screen tv that we plugged an sd card into and reviewed our awesome Southeast Asia pictures on while falling asleep. Pictures weren't actually that awesome, but after weeks of falling asleep to Euro club football matches on tape delay, they seemed awesome. Awesome.

This hotel has a very good location. It is easy to access to other attraction, i.e. Love Lane and Chulia Street. At night, there's a night market located just right a cross the street.

My partner and I were expected too much from the size of the room. It was much more smaller than we saw from hotel's homepage. But the room is spotless and tidy.

Wifi was randomly disconnected at room. I could not connect the wifi from my room. If you want to use a stable wifi or internet, you may need to use in at the lobby.

We have stayed there for two nights and we didn't hear much noise from outside. This maybe because our room is located away from the lobby.

Also, we love their TV channel : ) They got heaps of movies to watch. You won't be bored if you want to stay in the room and enjoy your night.

Staff are friendly. However, when the staff cleaned up our room, they forgot to top up the toilet paper.

Overall, this hotel is reasonable with the price that we paid.

We stumbled across this place and I am so happy that we did. They have rooms on the ground floor with ensuite bathrooms, and then on the top floor there are a selection of rooms with shared bathrooms (there are about 7 or 8 shower/toilet stalls). The room was spotless, the A/C was bliss (and necessary), and each room had a flat screen TV!!!

The building has been refurbished and looks amazing, but still holds much of its character. It was a bit more expensive than what I had set aside for my budget, but I was happy for this little bit of paradise.

My only complaint is the toilets are always wet from the shower, but the actual shower made up for it!

If it wasn't for the super friendly and helpful staff here, my review could be a lot worse. The hotel is an old English heritage building which, although its been refurbished to accommodate for today's in-house guest, it unfortunately is starting to show its true age. After our first night at Chulia, our toilet didn't flush...the front desk was able to promptly arrange a room keeper to come in to have a look and we were expecting it to be a little block in the piping that would be unblocked in a few minutes but we ended up having to be asked to stay out of our rooms for the entire day - apparently the blockage was a lot worse than they had anticipated and they needed to pump acid into the pipes, which would've filled the room up with a sewage stench. Lucky for us that we had a day tour booked in at 930am-630pm that day - but I was quite disgruntled upon returning back to the hotel, only to discover that the sewage was still not fixed and that I was asked to wait for another 45min. On top of this, there was little peeves which made the whole experience a little unpleasant ie. our toilet paper was not refilled during house cleaning (I had to ask the front desk for some) and we had an army of ants in our room (but I suppose that could be put down to the age of the building). All in all, its in a great location with the Kimberly/Campbell St hawker food stalls a short 2min walk away, some of the best Hainan chicken rice on offer at your footstep and a for all you footy/sport fans, there's a little place called Cintra Heritage, about 1min walk from the hotel that offers some alright pub type grub food, beer and the sports channel for those wanting to catch their NRL team play (as my husband and mate excitedly discovered!)
