“Super local restaurant”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed October 26, 2013

Our hotel (Seven Terraces) recommended this restaurant for its excellent Hainanese cooking, and they were absolutely right. Don't expect pretensions, but do expect good food. The duck with pickled cabbage soup was absolutely delicious. Just one caution - if the staff are tired, or have made enough money for the day, they may well just close the doors! But they won't throw you out once you're inside.

“Clean tasting home-cooked food”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 10, 2013

The waiter/owner was friendly.
Had the assam fish, kai lan, duck and salted vegetable soup and loh bak.
The food was very clean tasting and simple. Similar to home cooked food. Other restaurants would have "over-done" the food.

“One of the best Hainanese food in Penang”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed September 8, 2013 via mobile

Local, old fashioned traditional Hainanese food like cooked by your grandmother. Curry fish, Assam prawn and lobak (pork meat) are must try.

“So homey so good”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 29, 2013

We attempted to stop by the last trip in April but they were closed, at 8pm! This time, we got there at 5.30 and we experienced some of the best home cooked food ever. Cheap and good, service was outrageously friendly from the chef himself. No menu, all in the head, he says:) wow! Must try. Get there early. They open at 11am till the food runs out. Amazingly casual, no fuss. Just eat lah....

“Good, clean, cheap, local home cooked meals”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 28, 2013

Nestled near Little India and backpacker hotels is this gem of a Hainanese restaurant, hosted by the ever friendly Mr. Ong, who addresses his guests as either handsome man or pretty lady. There is no menu but ask for the Assam fish, the tofu dish, and the chicken chop. If you are adventurous, try the liver dish. This is a nice break from the chow koay teow and laksa, and it is almost as cheap!
