“Fantastic place, great service”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed December 6, 2012

We stayed at the Muntry Mews in November 2012, located in Chinatown and close to all main sights. You just can walk from here to all the attractions. We felt at home immediately. Sarah and her team did an amazing job, they provide an outstanding service, i.e. every time we returned from sightseeing, tired and hot, we were served a cold drink free of charge. Their kind hospitality gives the place a soule, which makes a big differnece to "standard hotels". It's a very lovely place refurbished with special care, leaving the caracter of the old building, but providing all the modern facilities and comfort of today. The rooms are big and airy and painstakingly clean. We even got a local mobile phone in case we get lost or for any other emergency.
We especially would like to mention the very special service we received from the staff. Sarah, Jenny and all the others have been very attentive and organized whatever we needed and even more.
We also can recommend the cafe, the food is very good and authentic. It costs a bit more than in other places, but it's defenitely worth it.

We stayed here for three nights in November/December 2012. The service was excellent and ALL the staff were exceedingly helpful and friendly. We were welcomed with cold drinks on our arrival and again when we returned to the hotel after a long day walking around Georgetown. Makes you feel a bit special and we really appreciated it. We had an upstairs room and found it to be clean, spacious and very comfortable. The bathroom was enormous and sparkling clean. The location of the hotel is fantastic and all of the historic sites in the World Heritage area of Georgetown are within easy walking distance.
This hotel would definitely be our choice again when we next visit Penang. Well done guys. Keep up the good work.

We are just back home from a 4 nights' stay in Muntri Mews. We certainly had much fantastic time staying in this wonderful hotel against the backdrop of the Penang old town. The decor of the room is full of the nostalgic character we could only imagine, the menu from their cozy cafe is not a big one but all good, and its location is surprisingly convenient. But above all, we felt so pampered by their attentive staff during our entire stay there, which impresses us most. We would certainly recommend the Mews to our friends.

Within walking distance to many attractions. Rooms are a perflect blend of modernism and heritage styles, and very comfortable. The staff made our short stay very enjoyable, and we plan on coming back for a longer stay there. The staff are amazingly, helpful and friendly. A special thanks to Sarah the night manager who gave my dad a book on penang as a gift, and for organising both our ferry tickets to Langkawi and arranging staff to make us an early breakfast on the day we left, even though the kitchen was technically closed, thanks to the staff who made us an excellent breakfast.

From the moment we first arrived until our departure five days later, the friendly and obliging staff at Muntri Mews made us feel welcome and valued. They were helpful in a non intrusive way which added to our enjoyment during the Penang phase of our time in Malaysia. Our accommodation was first rate: Clean, tidy, with special touches such as a daily supply of fresh fruit. We thoroughly enjoyed our meals, whether breakfasts or evening meals, prepared by their talented cooks. Muntri Mews was definitely a high point of our stay in Penang, and when we compared what we got with what was on offer at some of the similarly priced "bigger" venues, we believe we got a delightfully superior deal. If you value quietly attentive service, being taken seriously in terms of your needs, and really good value for money, Muntri Mews will not disappoint and more than meet your requirements.

Room Tip: Ground floor units had own access to outdoor seating areas - just make sure more audacious patrons o...

My family and i took 2 rooms during the Penang Bridge Marathon recently at Muntri Mews. We came with no expectation but left being bowled over by this chaming little place. The place has a cosy and homey feel to it - with its creatively appointed rooms and nice garden pavilion outside. Credit must definitely go to its staff as well. We noticed that though the team is lean, they sure are a bunch of attentive, friendly and efficient lot. Kudos to their trainers and selection process :) !

For those who would like to chill out in the evening, they may do so at the Mews Cafe - which was what we did before calling it a day. There's a live band playing the night we were therre and the F&B selection was good too.

I would definitely recommend Muntri Mews to those who prefer to stay in the middle of town and are tired of the typical "hotel/beach resort-type" of accommodation. The only drawback of this place is finding a parking spot, if you are driving on your own. Otherwise, everything's good and we will definitely come back :)

My husband and I (along with our 2 year old ShihTzu) moved to Penang for work and needed a pet friendly place to stay for at least 3 weeks while we house hunted. We had never been to Malaysia before and the Muntri Mews couldn't have been a better place for us to start out!

The staff are so sweet and were very attentive. They knew us by name when we arrived to check-in, carried our luggage, and were eager to help us with everything. Every time we got back to the hotel from exploring they would immediately bring ice water to our room. Each room has an outdoor patio table and there are a few outdoor cabbanas that are great for enjoying a drink, reading or chatting with other hotel guests. If we were sitting outside the staff would bring us water and a fan to keep cool. Our rooms were cleaned twice a day and according to OUR schedule which we really appreciated. The house keeping staff would wait until we were out to eat or exploring the town to come in and clean. If we decided to sleep in or not leave the room at all that was okay too! They never once bothered us or knocked on the door. It was quiet and private and I felt that myself and all of our belonging were safe and secure.

The restaurant and outdoor cafe were always very clean and have AMAZING coffee! The food was good too :) We ate breakfast at the outdoor cafe almost everyday (we preferred our breakfast outside so that our furry friend could join us on his leash!) and when we were too tired to adventure into town for dinner we would eat at the hotel restaurant or outdoor cafe. They have the same menu and both can be VERY romantic! The lighting and candles are beautiful and they always have some soft jazz playing in the background.

Also, the staff can send your laundry out for you in the mornings and it will be returned to you clean and nicely folded the following afternoon for RM10 (just over $3 US dollars). What a steal! We would send about a small laundry baskets worth every few days.

We took our dog on 2 or 3 small walks a day and you do have to walk about 1 block down before you will see a patch of grass for potty time. If your pet likes longer walks there is a good 10-12 minute loop around the block with sidewalks and grass. Take a right out of the hotel and take a left at each intersection until you are back on Muntri :)

The hotel provided brand-new toothbrushes, toothpaste, body wash, shampoo, towels, hair dryer, shower sandals, shower stool, clothes rack, small table and chairs, and 2 glasses with 2 large bottles of purified water that they replenished everyday. No wash cloths though. The bathroom and shower were modern and had great water pressure. They also provided us with a temporary cell phone since there are not landlines in the room. It was great to have a cell phone that could call and text until we picked a service provider here and our new cell phones arrived.

Helpful hints: They hotel is hard to spot if you are driving! You must drive VERY slow or be walking. From the street you will see a bunch of trees/bushes and the outdoor cafe but the sign is hard to spot because of the angle. You have to walk thru the hotel's outdoor cafe to get to the front desk/check-in. Also, you are literally in downtown so the streets are narrow and there is no hotel parking. You must park your car on the street. However, everything is in walking distance so you don't really need to drive! We left our car parked in the same place for days and just turned our parking slips into the hotel who pays them for you as part of your stay.

This hotel and the staff have a special place in our hearts! Now that we live here we plan to visit the outdoor cafe at Muntri Mews frequently and intend to bring along friends and family who are visiting from the U.S.

Room Tip: We have a small dog so we preferred a room on the ground floor. He isn't good with stairs and i...
