“Great little place to stay”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed January 15, 2014

Stardust is a cute little family run guesthouse a few minutes walk from Little India. It is on the main backpacker road so is in a great location. We stayed in a private room for 33RM a night and some friends stayed in a dorm for 20RM a night which is a really good price compared to some of the other places we looked at nearby. There are shared showers and toilets in a large bathroom area, we never had to wait to use the facilities and they were full. There is a small cafe/restaurant downstairs which serves food & drink at reasonable prices. The staff are all super friendly and smiley, would definitely recommend it.

I stayed here for almost an week in October, recommanded by other travellers. I was really suprised!! For just 30 Ringgit I had a clean room with fan and a super matrass (on which the owner is very proud, but who wouldn't!) . The bathroom facilities are shared, but clean! The staff is the friendliest in town! Always smiling and helpfull! I let them arrange my Thai VISA, and just within a few hours everything was done! The breakfast is really good and so is dinner. You can hire great (new) motorbikes for a cheap price!

I recommend Stardust to everyone going to Penang, because it's located in the heart of the town, the rooms are great, and the staff is amazing! Stay around for a night at the bar, have a few drinks with them and you will never forget them!

See you soon!

A bit hard to find at first (look opposite the mosque on Chulia Street) but a great place to stay. We were happy to get the last available room. Big room on the top floor with two double beds, aircon, fan and shared toilet on the floor below for 40 or 45 MYR per night (can't remember exactly). Really clean although a bit on the louder side but what do you expect one on of the bigger roads and a mosque on the other side of the road? GREAT value!

The owner is very helpful. You can rent a bike there for 30 MYR but only if you stay there. Didn't really try the food. If you want the best of Penang, check out that map I made using an online food guide: http://goo.gl/8uRBsV

Room Tip: Rooms on the ground floor have the kitchen next to them, first floor has the toilets/bathrooms. So s...

Very friendly, helpful and fun owners! They washed our laundry twice because it wss so smelly without extrs charges. The hostel has very clean rooms and bathroom. Great place to stay if you don't mind shared bathrooms. Definitely the best offer I've seen in penang.

Stayed in Stardust this summer during my trip around SE Asia. It's a good place to stay if you're on a really tight budget (about Rm50 a night for a double room!)
The hostel managers are very friendly and incredibly funny too (their endearing bickering makes great entertainment). They also offer food at "okay" prices but as Penang is the food capital of Malaysia, I'd recommend eating out or trying out the halker stalls instead!
Bedroom was very spacious and clean, bathroom facilities are shared (everyone can hear everything lol), location was excellent (right in the heart of Chulia street). They do a fab transport package to the perhentian islands for Rm 150 incl the ferry return ticket at kuala besut.
The only annoying thing is that they shut the downstairs bit/concierge at 11 pm, which means you can't use any of the PCs! There is good WiFi though if you've got phones/tablets/laptops.

I just stayed there for a visa run and the owner made the impossible possible really easy. I didn't even leave the room he took my papers and give the visa back in couple of hours. Also he gives a room to me before the official check in time. I don't know if any other place could do it. Regards from the Turkish...

Great location (in the middle of exactly where you want to be) , walking distance to the mall and large shopping centres in the outter area , and walking distance to little india, the ferry, bus stops, shops, food stalls.
Very clean. The shared bathrooms were super clean, plenty of toilets and showers, i never waited, and never saw anyone waiting. There were staff here cleaning the bathroom area morning and afternoon!
Nice little restaurant downstairs - although i never ate here because i dont eat rice or noodles or meat, but it usually had many guests eating what looked like nice food :)
You can easily walk here from the ferry.
My double bed, fan room was 30 ringgit a night. very spacious room.
The staff were so friendly, helpful. Free map.
They also can book the bus for you for your next journey - for the same price that bus companies are quoting online (and there was a free pick up from the guesthouse).
Id def stay here again if i visit penang again.
