“Bedbugs!!”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed March 20, 2013 via mobile

We stayed here for 3 nights. The first night we had double bedroom with ac, big and in out eyes clean. The next morning we heared that we where going to change room, because ours was booked... Will we where sleeping in there! We also had seen a bug on out bed and we didn't know what it was...

We got a room with twinbeds and ac. The next morning will we where changing we saw a bug like the morning before on the wall. When we looked closly we saw that IT was a bedbug. Then we saw a nother one. We told the lady and she blamed us! She said that we brought them with us. So the only thing she did was give us another room.

The thirth room was the same as the one before. spacious, twinbed and ac. And again bedbugs on the wall. We ended ip sleeping together in an one single bed! That morning we left and she complained that we didn't bring the towels. Because you get towels everyday and there is free Breakfast as much as you want.

So overall:
If you like bedbugs on your wall and on your bed, them come! The Staff is really easy going about IT...

Breakfast and towels included.

Clean toilet and (hot)shower.

we came to stay hear after hearing all the good reviews about the hostle, me and the girlfrind had stayed in Penang in a few other places down the road and in our experince we thought that this one was the better of them. The hostle has got good air flow through the building so it not to hot inside the rooms are tidy and of a good size and the bed are very comfortable. At the front desk there are many different survices that the guest house offers and you can get free food maps and attraction maps of the island.

We had a wonderful three day stay here. Thanks mostly to extremely friendly staff who were great with our two year old. Private room with ensuite was clean and very good value; they charged us only 20 ringgit extra per night to put a mattress on the floor for our son. On the edge of the old town, close walk to Little India, a couple of decent restaurants on the street and, conveniently, a 7/11 only 50 meters away.

Good location.

Great mattress in the double room en suite.
WiFi was fast enough but didn't reach to our room.

Breakfast was very basic. Bread, jams etc.

A little noisy, not too bad where we were.

Quite a few smokers (only outside though)

Nice building

Overall, good price and comfortable enough for a stopover

This place is set in a nice old Chinese house, but that's about the only good thing. I don't understand all the good reviews this place has got. It was probably the noisiest place we've ever stayed in Southeast Asia. Really hard to sleep, even in a private room & with ear plugs. The wooden floorboards are really noisy with inconsiderate guests thundering around on them all the time. Walls are thin with little soundproofing. We could hear everything! Most rooms don't have windows, some of the double rooms open onto the internal courtyard, so you get the noise of everybody talking, eating, watching tv etc down there. You can even hear when people are showering and going to the toilet. Only 2 showers and 2 toilets for the whole top floor of least 20-30 guests, so people are constantly waiting. Bad water pressure too. And despite being cleaned a few times each day they were usually pretty dirty. The towels supplied were terrible too. brealfast was very basic, watermelon and white toast + jam. Only one toaster and the staff make you wash up your own breakfast dishes. Not enough tables either. WiFi signal was poor and just didn't work at all most of the time. Decent mattress + pillow, but very dark lighting in our room. Some staff were friendly but I got the impression they were all just a bit too lazy to run this place properly, could have been a bit more helpful. Would not stay here again.

near chulia street which is near all the heritage lanes... the private room is simple, just lights, 2 beds and a small table... do take note that most of the private room do not have a window in it... the staff that replied my email promised me a room with window, but then he never kept to the promise... and if you are a light sleeper, do take note that the floor board creeks if someone walk like an elephant along the corridor. wifi was average, and dunno why tablet like nexus 7 and kindlefire is block from accessing the wifi...

Room Tip: ask for a window room and stay further away from the common area like toilets

All 4 of us really loved this place. We loved the fact that it is a heritage place, it really adds character to the place.
Its in a great location, the place is very clean. The staff are all lovely. Wifi was very good and there are free computers to use. Chill out area is so good you hardly want to leave. We will stay here again.
