Located at the heart of the town. Surrounded by many eateries. You have wide range of varieties from Western Starbuck to Oriental Old Town Cafe, Nyonya Restaurant, Thai, Chinese and Many restaurant welcoming you day and night. If you like something light, try the famous Penang Hawker Food just beside the hotel. The local wood crafting is a rare art hardly seen in Malaysia, but is located behinds Old Town Cafe. Occupied but peaceful with total relaxation is my beautiful stay in Tune Hotel, Jalan Burma, Penang.

Room Tip: Rooms facing the back are quieter and bigger.

The room is clean. Shower is fantastic. Bed is comfortable but room quite small. Not recommended for family with small children. The parking charges quite a ripp off though.

When approach the receptionist. He was very friendly. Service was fast. He could answer any question that was given. Room is normal. Quite cooking even without air conditioning. But there's still ad's in the room. Quite simply. With mirrors and water heater. It's quite sound-proof. But around 6am the mosque will say its prayers which is quite loud. Beds are comfortable. But the strategic spot is quite off. It's not for walking but more on hailing a cab or for buses. Nightlife quite dim except or viva pub. Everything is fine. Quite satisfied with this. Plus affordable.

A musty smell greets you as you enter the room. Reminds me of laundry left out in the rain for a few days...Floors were sticky and there was hair left in the shower. Mouldy bits at the shower too...other than that, strong pressure hot shower is great.

Parking was really poor - they had less than 20 lots. Ended up parking next door at New World Food Court. Even after validation at hotel, parking cost me RM 23! Paid additional RM 15 for late checkout...standard checkout time is 11am...So in total in paid RM 101 for room and aircon and additional RM 38 for parking n late checkout...(we ended up checking out at 1pm...i think most hotels would allow a late checkout of about the same time with no extra fee)...and free parking too.

Sound insulation is very bad...I could hear people opening and closing doors at all hours of the night. Needless to say, I had a horrible night due to the noise. Also no TV in the shoebox sized room. You pretty much had to navigate your way around the room else you will bump into each other.

Please note there is no TV or fridge. Bring your own towels and toiletries including soap n shampoo as you will have to pay for these additional 'comforts'. Seriously, not worth it, just add a lil' more and stay at a proper hotel. They should be listed as a motel n not a hotel. Tried the massage place within the hotel - not very hygienic or clean...We went cos it was late and there was no TV in the room and there was nothing else to do.

Only positives are the front desk staff - professional and well trained as well as the location. Near to food stalls.

tunehotelsdotcom, Manager at Tune Hotel Downtown Penang, responded to this review, April 3, 2012
Dear Guest,

Thank you for completing a Trip Advisor Review on your recent stay at Tune Hotels Downtown Penang.

I regret to hear that issues of cleanliness marred your stay. I assure you that what you have experience is purely isolated. The hotel manager has confirmed that they have taken appropriate steps to improve housekeeping activities. This includes hiring a new team and increasing routine quality checks.

Commenting your feedback about the parking, unfortunately the parking facilities are indeed limited. And the New World parking does not belong to Tune Hotels. Leaving us with no control on the fee being charged.

The genesis of Tune Hotel is to provide clean and comfortable beds, with no frills. Tune Hotels requires extra payment for anything that is not an elemental part of a stay.

'For non-essential items such as TV, wi-fi, tea and coffee and hairdryers, guests only pay if they need them. Guests not using the extra facilities won't be charged for them as part of the room price.'

This typically allows our customers to assemble their stay requirements to suit their budget; henceforth, encouraging guests to spend less within the hotel itself, driving more spend outside the hotel.

In any case we apologize sincerely for this unpleasantness marring your stay - thank you once again for highlighting the matter to us for our action.

Regards,
Sharon-Customer Care Manager

If you are going to Penang to have great experience, pick Tune Hotels. The location is great. Walking distance to food, transportation and many great places. About value and price?? No other hotel can beat Tune Hotels.
