Like nothing you will see in Europe, these houses are suspended above the water and there are many people living here. The locals didn't mind us walking around at all and left us to our own devices to take photos etc. Make sure you wear a hat and take water as there is little shade here and the walk back to central town is a long one when it's 40+ !

The clan jetties is a fisherman's housing area close to the ferry terminal at the beach side.It is an interesting place to see how in older times the fishermen used to live in their boat houses (& some are still living there).It is much more interesting than many other touristic places highly advertised in the brochures.Its a kind of living heritage of Penang which might diminish due to lack of awareness!
