4 of 5 stars Reviewed December 3, 2012

it was a very pleasant stay as the ambience of the hotel is beautiful, calm, warm, clean & welcoming. my favorite was the long english style corridor outside the room and the terrace outside the room with chairs if you prefer to enjoy the evening breeze. the hotel is in a very strategic location whereby gurney drive is less than 10 minutes and penang road on the other hand is less than 15 minutes. the staff's were very friendly and accomodating to the request made.yes you jessica. breakfast was included and was good with a small spread but satisfying for your tummy!the manager was allways very helpful.stayed there for 7 nights heritage room 212

Room Tip: use the heritage room with balcony

“Hotel quality - downward trend!”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed November 21, 2012

Recently, I took my family and two visitors to stay at this hotel, thinking that it was going to be the same good experience, where staff is friendly and breakfast place (and food) pleasant. What a disappointment!
1) Firstly, bathroom fitting to hold the shower head was broken .
2) 2nd day, we could not switch on the airconditioner; called for the maintenance guy and he wanted to wear his dirty shoes throughout the room. Not that the room was cleaned out, but courtesy to guests?
3) Breakfast! Part of the pull to stay at the same hotel was the past great experience with the breakfast, which started off the day on a good footing. However, this time around, there was nobody to do the omelette, there was no option for "sunny side up", etc....hardly any flexibility.
Asking for a cup of warm milk for the child? Forget it....the staff just said, "none available". Then, looking around, to absorb in the surroundings and ambiance, what a shocker we had! Right next to our breakfast table, there was a jug of coloured water or some sort of oil....and being such a hot, sweltering day, who decided to go swimming? See the accompanying uploaded picture! What a start to the day!
4) On one of the nights during the stay, there was a function at the hotel and before long, all the parking spaces were taken up and hotel guests coming back to sleep for the night had nowhere to park! Suggestion here is to find out how many guests have cars and ensure that there are reserved bays for guests to park.
5) Sleep Quality was rated lowly, as the bed was hard and next morning, you feel like you have not rested. However, since these are most likely the same old beds, then I blame it on my old creaking frame!! Still, it would be nice to have facilities for 'senior citizens'.

“Overall, a pretty good place to stay”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed November 15, 2012 via mobile

We were heading to Penang for a short weekend food hunting trip. The hotel is located at a very good location, plenty of good parking space just outside of your room (if you're staying on the ground floor). We were given a room near to the end of a quiet eerie long corridor, where we can only make exit using the very long corridor heading back to the reception, where we couldn't get wifi as it was way too far away from the reception area. (there is no exit at the end of the corridor). So we asked for an upgrade to a room near to the lobby where wifi is pretty good. The hotel staff is friendly and attentive. And you can easily get access to the useful brochures near the reception on where to get good local food.

“Refurbished old building, ordinary hotel”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed November 1, 2012

Stayed only 1 night at the hotel before moving on to my next destination very early in the next morning. So, didn't had the chance to try out the swimming pool and brekfast. The hotel room is very ordinary, room is reasonably clean, LCD tv, instant hot water shower is working. Hotel service is okay. Chinese restaurant is just next door of the hotel.

“It's not Bad not Good but not Bad”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed October 26, 2012

I decided to stay here as it looked quite close to all of the main sights in George Town, it had a pool and it was cheep. Its quite a large Hotel which at the moment is undergoing some renovations to the rooms, they do need it. I had booked a single queen size room for myself for 5 nights. The room was fairly clean and functional. The bathroom was nice and clean, which goes a long way, but BYO toiletries. The shower was not very strong or hot but warm at least. I quite like walking so walked in to George Town see see every thing that i wanted on 2 days its not far maybe 10 mins of brisk walking. I found the beds quite commutable but then i have been living in asia for 3 years now and am used to the hard mattresses. I was disappointed about the pool which is beautiful, but right next to the car park all they would have to do to make this better is put some terracing up to make it a little more private.

Like i said the room was clean but it smelt very bad of damp, this is usual in Asia and normally once the Aircon has been put on for a pit the smell soon leaves, the smell never left this room not in the five nights i was there.

Breakfast was basic not thing special, if i was going again would i book breakfast no i would find some street food which is much better, cheeper and a far more enjoyable experience.

If i was going to Penang again i would not book this hotel i would stay closer to george town around the Loves lane area where there looked to be some very nice places to stay, close to bars restaurants and a mix of travelers to meet and socialize with.
