“Basic and clean”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed March 16, 2009

We spent 4 nights here in Pangkor island, it was the low season after the Chinese New Year rush ,the island looked almost deserted with very few visitors. The villa itself is about 5 minutes walk to the beach, the place is well kept and clean, rooms are basic, with air conditioner,in good size (with king size bed),clean basic bathroom and a small tv, but the mattress was very hard that gave us sore backs the next day.

They have a cafe/restaurant at the front of the hotel but the menu is quite mediocre and a bit over priced .We rented motorbike from the villa (RM30 a day) ,which allowed us to explore other parts of the island and Pangkor's town centre , which offers much better food with at least half of the price you pay at the beach resort area.

The hotel also provide free beach matts .Staffs are friendly and helpful and most speaks good English.

My husband and I stayed here with our 7 year old daughter in August 2007. We stayed for 5 nights and paid the equivalent of $38 CDN a night for a deluxe chalet with a king size and single bed. We had AC and a TV with three channels including HBO. Nipah Beach was a 2-3 minute walk away and Coral Beach was 5-7 minutes. Both beaches were beautiful but Coral Beach was white sand and clear water and almost totally vacant the entire time we were there. Lots of trees to sit under. We took almost all our meals at the villa and the food was delicious. Breakfast was included and so filling that we often just had a snack at lunch and then a full dinner (try their steamboat!). We made great friends with the management and the young women running the place and everyone was wonderfully kind to our daughter.

I should mention that we stayed her as a splurge - part of a year-long trip - and that our stay came after several weeks of hostels. If you were going to stay here as your /only/ vacation of a year, you might be disappointed but coming as we were for sun and sand and beautiful water, clean rooms and a decent price, this place was fantastic for us.

We are a family with two young children, staying in the Nipah Bay Villa for four nights.
Pros: (1) 5 minutes walk to Nipah Bay which is a good beach. For the first four days, the water was calm and clear. The sand is white and fine. But for the last day, it was windy. The water was a bit rough. (2) Food prepared in the villa was good. (3) Staff provided fast and good services. (4) Well decorated environment with their limited budget.
Cons: (1) Air-conditioning in the afternoon is far below sufficient due to low-graded roof cover. But at night, A/C is all right. It might be too cold for someone. (2) Insufficient power supply: power chipped in the two units we stayed when both A/C and heater were turned on. (3) A/C attached to the wooden wall resonated the A/C noise. It was a bit noisy at night. (4) Wooden wall did not seal noise well. When someone talked outside the unit, you could hear them.
Overall, the A/C was the main problem. If you do not travel with young children and look for budget accommodation, Nipah Bay Villa should be one of the better places that you can found in the two streets of accommodation near Nipah Bay.

the website of the resort may be a bit misleading with pictures of the beach and the sea. The resort is not beach front if that is the kind of resort you are looking for, but the resort is not that far away from the beach either. The beach is a public beach and along the beach there are a lot of these small 'back-packers' accomodation to house budget travellers. Nipah Bay Villa offers single room wooden bungalows which is quite cozy. While you can smell the sea, you can't see the sea, but you can always take a stroll along the beach. Do not expect quite shore though because along Nipah Bay, you will find stalls selling sourvenirs and food stalls, the night could be quite busy because guests from neighbouring beaches do come and feast on the food available here. It is quite happening I would say. The locals are very friendly and ever helpful for any information you may require. When my husband and I spent our 3 days escapade here last weekend, the kids selling jagung bakar dubbed us as jagung romantik. how sweet!

everytime we passed by their stall, they would ask us if we want to get a pair of jagung romantic... because we are romantic, we only bought 1 jagung for us to share, but it was those foreign tourists that bought more jagungs from them as the kids told them the tale of jagung romantic. *grin*

overall, we wouldnt mind to stay there again. it's nice as long as u do not expect to sit at the verandah and feel the sea breeze sweeping across your face. If you expect to have a long gaze at the sea as you sit from your room, then, this is not the place for you.

We spend a few nights in the Nipah Bay Villa. The bungalows are located in nice environment with lots of trees and flowers. Rooms are clean and comfortable. And we felt very welcome with the owners. It's a good place, not next to the beach but a few minutes walk. We loved it there.

We had the misfortune of looking at this on a Pulau Pangkor website and it read OK. However this was obviously written by someone who had lost their sense of smell! Our 'villa' was a tatty timber bungalow, dark and depressing with a unique aroma of body odours and musk of the choking variety. It was one of those places where you felt you would have to sleep fully clothed on top of the bed. We didn't actually stay and immediately moved to another resort in the next road.
Speaking from previous backpacking experience (10 years ago) Teluk Nipah is scruffy with very little to recommend it.
