“Great island!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed March 21, 2013

Great island hotel with high maintenance of rooms. Great staff - very attentive...even with the most challenging traveller! Really good nature treks - unspoilt. Food of high quality but limited western choices - which is OK for me in Malaysia! Fast boat required to get to isalnd - only 15 minutes. Star employee is Delia at Reception.

Room Tip: Room 384 is upper apartment with bright sunny (all day) balcony with sun loungers with some shade if...

“Excellent Resort, Beautiful Rooms and a Cracking View”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed March 20, 2013

We stayed 5 nights at Pangkor Laut. After careful consideration about what room to stay in at the time of booking, we chose a Hill Villa and we were blown away when we arrived. We asked for one with a view and we weren't dissapointed. I think we had the best room, it was central and the highest one so we looked staight out over the bay. The room itself was the best we've ever stayed in, with its huge stone bath, dressing area and seperate sleeping area. The balcony was spacious with 2 sun loungers, perfect for relaxing with a beer and admiring the view. We were on the Residents package, which included all our meals. I would definately recommmend the package as your food bill can get quite expensive and there's nothing worst than worrying about money on holiday.

The food itself is to a very high standard. I agree to a point with the other review about Feast Village but I suppose all resorts have a Feast Village type restaurant and we enjoyed our first meal there but wouldn't want tro eat there every night. Uncle Lim's is superb, it really is and it was included in our package. We ate at Uncle Lim's twice and both times we couldn't get in until after 9pm and I think we tried another night and it was fully booked, so you need to book early. Fishermans Cover was nice as well but I don't think it was better than Uncle Lim's and it wasn't included in our pacakage so I think it cost us an additional £100. Through the day, we spent the majority of our time at Emerald Bay and so eat our lunch at Chapmans Bar most days. The food is is very good and the menu is interesting so we tried to cover all the eastern dishes on there.

I would recommend getting a massage, both me and my partner enjoyed ours and it's very relaxing. You also get to use the Spa Village, which is a nice change to the normal pool area as it's quieter (no kids) and Jamu Bar, which does Japanese style food, was very good.

The pool area is lovely. The pool is a cobalt blue infinity pool overlooking the bay (I'm sure you've seen the pictures) and although quite small, it was never overcrowded so was perfect for a relaxing dip. Emerald Bay is beautiful and the water is clear and a good temperature but does get busy so although its not really in the sun until about 11am, get there early so you can get a good bed

We found that the activities (snorkelling trip and sunset cruise) were a touch on the expensive side but we really enjoyed the Sunset Cruise and its good to break up your normal evening routine.

As well as being an amazing resort, Pangkor Laut also has some great wildlife. Every evening at about 5pm we got our daily visit from the Hornbills. We also managed to get some great pictures of the Monitor Lizards. If you're staying in a Hill Villa, however, make sure you lock your door as we were woken at about 6am one morning by a monkey opening our doors (he was very cute though). We didn't go on the Jungle Trek but everyone who we spoke to said it was very good.

In summary, a beautiful resort and highly recommended

Room Tip: Ask for a Hill Villa with a view and get a package that includes your meals

“Island hotel let down only by its Feast Village evening meal”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed March 19, 2013

As is our normal practice we chose a high quality hotel to finish our holiday - hopefully with a beach for 4 or 5 nights R&R. We decided on a Hill Villa simply because we thought it would be quieter (which it was until the night when at 1.30am in the morning - a member of staff decided to do some spraying!. After words from a guest - peace returned.

The apartment was fine - high quality bed, walk in shower, lots of bottled water & a kettle to make the tea which we brought with us using the local water. Good view, lift - but beware there are a lot of steps in the resort - totally unsuited to anyone with mobility problems. Lovely friendly staff.

The beach at Emerald Bay was clean & the sea calm on 2 out of 3 days; only spoilt one afternoon by a local fishing boat "hoovering up" fish for 2+ hours. The hotel was not full - between 60 & 75% full - we were told at the time of our visit. Certainly there would be shortages of beach chairs /recliners if full at the beach

Breakfast at Feast Village was fine - a huge choice; we tend to have scrambled eggs cooked to order. Cannot comment on anything from the hot plate - how it copes when the hotel was full is not known.

Evening meal was a different matter- we wanted to go Uncle Lims Chinese (strongly recommend it) - but twice (out of four) we would have to wait until 9.00pm. Apart from a very expensive fish restaurant - Feast Village was the only other option. It was either a buffet (not available on our 2nd visit), Western food or a 5 very small dishes plus rice on a large wooden platter as a main course. We didn't come to Malaysia to eat Western food, buffets we prefer to give a wide berth & the Malaysian platter was poor to say the least & was soon cold. All in all I think that Feast Village for dinner lets down what is supposed to be a 5* hotel

The walk with the naturalist/ ranger is brillant at 10.30am - I strongly recommend. Gym & sauna excellent

“everything we wanted and more!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed March 17, 2013

we stayed for 13 nights in a hill villa which was lovely . we had a fantastic time from start to finish.food was good at all restaurants we mostly ate at fishermans cove so was glad we did the full meal package .the sunset cruise is a must and also the jungle trek.but the high light of the holiday was all the staff who couldnt do enough for you in particular jerald who on numerous occasions went above and beyond the call of duty we really dont no how anything will match up to this holiday......

Room Tip: hill villas has a tv and fantastic views

“Wonderful”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed March 17, 2013

Just came back from 2 nights at this beautiful resort.
We started the journey from Kuala Lumpur by car. It was a rather long 3 hours journey to the town of Lumut where we were supposed to find the private jetty to take the ferry across to the resort. A word of caution -call the resort in advance and make sure you get detailed instruction on how to locate this marina. We thought we could rely on road signs but there were almost no road signs to direct us there until nearby. Took us 45 minutes of circling around Lumut town!
But once we found the marina, it was a comfortable 20 mins ferry ride to the resort. Enough people have written about the beauty of the resort so I won't go into that. We had a sea villa which sat on stilts overlooking the sea. Very breezy and the 2 deck chairs on the verandah was very comfortable
We especially enjoyed the jungle trek organized by the hotel. It's goes at a very comfortable pace through the resort and the awesome virgin forest , ending in a quant secluded private beach called Emerald Bay. The guide, Shahzan was impressively knowledgeable and kept the trek interesting with lots of snippets of information about snakes, spiders... Etc.
Overall, we enjoyed ourselves at the resort and the service was very warm and welcoming.
