“Better choices elsewhere”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed March 31, 2013

Second time in this hotel, but would not have stayed here if not for my unadventurous family. Nothing special or to praise about this hotel.

It is centralized, so are other hotels. The price is affordable, but there is a large variety of cheaper ones. The hotel is so old the elevator makes noise. Our last straw is the regrettably slow housekeeping services on the faulty TV and missing towels.

In summary, this hotel desperately needs an upgrade. But by then, it has already lost a lot of customers to other hotels in the area.

Feb 2013
I chose the hotel because i wanted the old hotel feel...the fully carpeted, spacious room space, spacious toilet with bath tub. I know its weird but new hotels with the same rate would only offer a more compact space for bed, build in tv and an arms width of toilet space...hence small room. Went there with my family and the family room was so spacious. Yes of coz it has the smell of the old hotel but the sheets were clean with fluffy pillows and bed. The carpet could use a real clean tho as you can smell the dusty carpet. However the worst was the staff. Super not friendly - from the lady that was giving the ticket at the car park, the receptionists, housekeeping and the maintenance. Would not recommend to any family or friends but if you are ok with all that's been said and want a big space for your trip, this would be the place. Surroundings are chinese foodcourt, banks, mini markets and pharmacy. So basicly a just ok place to stay, nothing outstanding but so much to improve...if the management of the hotel wants to move forward.

Golf trip in ipoh...used to feel comfortable staying, this time its just bad. I got a room with 2 single beds, aircon wasn't cold, hot water wasn't working. call up a few times no response...tried... The security guard at the parking was also a bit rude.

Room Tip: new wing should be better...

I arrived on the 9th Feb 2013 and I headed to the car park (4 storey car park) with a security guard at the main entrance. Was asked for some security ID but at the same time I noticed there are some car park rates involved. Is the car park for outsiders as well? If it is true, then it will be unsafe as you can get in the hotel rooms itself from the elevator which is accessible from the car parks. Better lock and take good care of your belongings folks.

After which I headed to the receptionist to check in and was given a room number. When I arrived at the given room, the room is not ready with the housekeeping personnel sitting on the bed and busy with her handphone. I thought I was in the wrong room and headed down to the receptionist area for clarification. This is when I was challenged by the hotel receptionist. She insisted the correct room was given to me and I entered the wrong room instead. Is this the way the hotel is treating its customers? Please buck up on your customer service attitude. She then gave me another room and the room is ready this round. At last...

Nothing to shout about the hotel as it is quite an old one but the room is pretty spacious. Basic amnesties are present; tea making, Wi-Fi, hot shower with good water pressure, satellite TV channels, quite a number of power sockets though. Cleanliness is average as you can notice dirts on the beds, carpets and tables. Location of the hotel is good as ample restaurants nearby. Breakfast was also provided and it is above average. Typical Malaysian breakfast. Not much complaint though as it does serves its purpose and I am full from the meal :)

Checkout was fast with no issues. I will stay in this hotel again after I try out all hotels in Ipoh.

Room Tip: - Request for higher floor rooms

Our room was clean, spacious and not too expensive. The hotel is conveniently located near most good eating spots and restaurants. The only draw back for this hotel is the security or lack thereof. One can easily enter any room directly from the car park. My father had his bag stolen from him at the hotel cafe while having breakfast. The staff at the entrance of the cafe would let anyone into the cafe without checking to see if that person was a guest or not. From the CCTV playback, we could see that the thief walked into the cafe without having been checked, took the bag and then left (The bag was not left unattended any anytime, it was stolen while the bag was placed next to my dad) The hotel staff was not very helpful in assisting us (save for the security head, a Mr. Praba), who returned from his off day to assist us. Other than Mr. Praba, the rest of the hotel staff seemed reluctant to help us or provide any assistance. Also discovered from the other hotel staff that theft in the hotel has been quite frequent.

This was one of the first international hotels in Ipoh. Great location for food and a base to walk around. The dim sum shops are just behind so you can roll out of bed and go eat. Rooms are simple, towels a bit worn out etc..but if you're stopping for a night this is fine.

Just two things:

The hot water in the shower is REALLY HOT. Be very careful!

We stayed in room 707 and in the middle of the night, there a sound from the air condition compressors knocking against the wall. This went on for at least 90 mins. It felt like as if I was in Guntanamo Bay and this was some sort of sleep deprivation torture! To be fair, my friend slept through it but another friend in 708 also was kept up by it.
