“Excellent modern hotel in central Ipoh. Probably the best value for money in Ipoh”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed November 28, 2012 via mobile

Stayed in the deluxe king, massive bed, very clean room, lovely rainfall shower, lcd tv. Centrally located in ipoh. And only cost 70sgd! It is a small hotel, so don't expect a pool or gym. But what it has it does very well and receptionist very helpful.

The French Hotel in Ipoh was very retro and cute. The lobby was small although very quaint. It had a little touch of '60s feel with a Chinese ambiance. The old lady who was cleaning the lobby had so small a space to clean, that she mopped and wiped forever, until the whole place was spick and span. For a small hotel, there was free wifi which was very important for my husband and I. The people at the reception area were very friendly and helpful. I failed to ask the girl's name but one of them has visited my country, the Philippines, and she said she loved cornicks. Good thing I brought some and gave it to her. The room we stayed in was also very clean and spacious, it had no frills, but all in all it was value for money.

I decided to try French Hotel after reading its good reviews, here. But upon arrival, I almost screamed, "Oh no! A hotel in mid-town shoplot? It must've been a stopover for hourly sexual exploits!" Finding its one-n-only lift (elevator) brought me to its backdoor office n maintenance area.

Once i got into d room, the 'nightmare' continues. The rooms were small n crampy. Window view? Ew!

Any good news? A/con works marvelously, the bath fixtures are nice, LCD TV with Astro, huge n clean bed.

Best news? The price.

Room Tip: Not a hotel for families.

The French Hotel in historic Ipoh is a super place to stay in this wonderful little city.

The rooms are comfortable, the wifi works, the hotel is clean, and the beds provide a great nights sleep.

The best part of the hotel are the great front desk staff who give you great tips about where to eat within five minutes walk, from fantastic bean sprout Chicken alongside wonderful Indian style dishes. Right beside the hotel is a 7-11, with a Watsons right across the street.

Parking is virtually next door to the hotel and is safe.

I highly recommend this hotel.

4 of 5 stars Reviewed October 31, 2012

We stayed a night (weekday) in October and we were quite happy with the service. The chinese bespectacled young cute looking girl (thank you and so sorry we forgotten to ask for your name) were very friendly and helpful. We asked if we could see the room before making our decision to stay for the night and she showed us 2 categories - Deluxe KING and Deluxe TWIN SINGLE instead of just Deluxe KING (which we wanted earlier) and thanks to her for showing us the other category, we settled with the TWIN SINGLE on 4th floor Room 404. The windows were facing the next building but no worries and can open the curtains widely without afraid of anyone able to view us from outside or opposite building ( no windows just walls seen from that building). It will be a bit quiet at night specially weekdays ( after 8pm ) for those who prefers to walk around in town but if you stay here during the weekends, there's a FLEA market on every sunday morning from 8.30am-1pm which is just about 5mins walk from the hotel ( Left direction from the hotel entrance or another 100metres after THE STORE departmental store )

Really nice room, very clean and quite bright and spacious. The only let down were the pillows were a bit too soft (just not so suitable for us both) and no mini bar-fridge to put some of our fruits/drinks but overall we are pleased and satisfied. We love the bathroom, spacious enough and especially the RAIN SHOWER!! : )

The chinese girl told us that their upcoming restaurant is in the midst of renovation now and the room rates will be re-adjusted as breakfast will be included then. Hopefully the management will have 2 kind of rates for the guests to choose in future, either to go for room only or with breakfast. Ipoh is a city which is well-known for their local food everywhere and we don't mind not getting any breakfast from the hotel as great food is located so nearby and also within 10-15mins walking distance, or 5mins drive.

We will definitely recommend this hotel to our friends/anyone who want to stopover in Ipoh for good food and holiday!!

Room Tip: Deluxe - Twin Single is a good choice, bigger space in the bathroom and stay higher floor...Room 404...

The French Hotel in Ipoh is being redone (some construction still going on) and the finished rooms are amazing! It really is like staying at a 5-star hotel.

Security is very good, everything is perfectly clean, the beds are super comfortable and the showers are wonderful!

The guy with glasses in the reception is very helpful and is ful of good advice on how to make your stay in Ipoh best possible.

No breakfast included, but there are plenty of places around to grab a bite to eat - also a grocery store if you're on a budget.

Room Tip: Even the ones without a window are great. Seems like you can't go wrong at this place.

The hotel is in a great location in the town. The staff are helpful in finding you places to go and getting about town. The rooms are small but they are roomy enough and have huge beds. They provide astro and fast internet. They are good at little touches such as stocking the fridge and providing complementary tea, coffee and water. The shower is powerful but I am unsure about the frosted glass wall rather than a separate bathroom.

The operations manager Ee was fantastic. He was very helpful. They provided plenty of maps and information for places to see and things to do.

For what you pay for a city break it is top notch. It would be so much better if they simply provided breakfast.
