“The "GATE" to nature.....”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 30, 2012

A must go vacation spot to all nature lovers..... Awesome idea and location generated an Eco-resort called The Roots... Had couple of days there, and i just cant wait to get back... A beautiful place with crystal clear river, jungle, waterfall, org asli village, the quad ride, the tree house, swimming pool, the fruit orchard, and the Jacuzzi(my fav), Extremely friendly and helpful staffs (miss Meena), a quite heaven of privacy and with high bamboo fencing is a highlight. The always closed gate is an inconvenient to enter or exit the resort, but i do feel secured from the busy road, and intruders. it also makes me feel special in there..... The facilities are well maintained, clean surroundings. there is a bar, sheltered chairs and tables where you can sit near the river.....The food needs improvement... The nights were good with comfortable beds and air conditions... The rates are reasonable... Overall, its a heaven of nature, a must go vacation for urban hard workers...

Room Tip: The tree house is great.... must stay experience...

The idea of an eco-friendly overnight stay appealed to us and from the outside it looked quite inviting . . . except one has to get out of the car and ring the bell several times before the gate is opened . . . whether you are entering or leaving which is quite annoying when it is raining.

The rooms are spartan but comfortable with more bugs than you can shake a stick at - I guess one has to accept that in a place like this.

The pool is clean and quite refreshing but there is a rather fast-running river right next to it with no fence so it certainly is not suitable for families with children.

Another annoyance were the free-running turkeys, about half a dozen of them . . . not the turkeys as such but the feces they dropped everywhere.

Speaking of feces, there is also a doberman pinscher dog running free, he is quite friendly enough but jumps up at people which did frighten my children . . . also his 'droppings' are left eberywhere and the smell is quite awful . . .plus you have to wear shoes to walk to the pool.

Aside form that the place is quite nice

Room Tip: You choose the room when you book - try away from the road

The Roots is our secret gateaway, just when we have had enough with the city. Not too far off from KL, this place is truly a gem.

Price is also affordable and you don't need to break your bank for this.

The place is a bird sanctuary, and you'll be greeted with colourful species every day. It has an orchard within the resort and just when you need some rambutans, hop over to the trees and get them.

Relax and unwind by the Kinta river. Don't forget to bring a book!

Only gripe: their restaurant is not great. Food is expensive. There should be more brochures/information for guests about birds and wildlife, as well as the construction of the resort.

All in all, this is NOT for those who want to party or shop. Come here if you need some relaxation.

Room Tip: Get the orchard or river villa.

It is about 200km+ away from Kuala Lumpur. The resort was unique and the villas were built from woods and bamboo. The tree house is the house built around the tree.
The bathroom has an open roof top and the floor seems to have no drainage system, it looks like all the water fall into the soil.
The bedroom bed was big with 1 king size bed and 1 double decker bed. The attraction is a private Jacuzzi outside your balcony. You will enjoy soaking in private.
Generally it is very quite there and noting much to do, all we need is some quite time out of the busy city life. If you have children following you, suggest that you take them to the Lost World Resort nearby for other activity.
Since it is an eco resort insect repellent is a must.
The front gate of the resort is closed all the time and non-hotel guests are not allow to enter. There is a telephone number at the gate, they open it only when you call them.
The staff there are very friendly.

Went here with a bunch of friends and while i must say that the rooms and pool were lovely, there were other details that put us off

First of all, you have to pay for everything....RM10 deposit for borrowing the pool ball, RM50 for eating outside food at the pool (even potato chips!), corkage for alcohol etc etc. Eventhough in the end we managed to 'bargain' with the management regarding the corkage, it really left a bad taste in our mouth cos expecting us to pay for such minor things just screamed 'CHEAP'! No one likes to go on a holiday and be bugged about things like this.

The worst had to be the food....we paid RM20 for dinner and only got 1 measly piece of chicken, salad and mash potato which tasted horrible. If you're gonna charge us for bringing outside food, then at least make sure you have nice, AFFORDABLE food on the menu! All of us were still so hungry after dinner (which was served late) that we had to cook our maggi-mee-in-the-cup. And we cancelled lunch for the next day.

Service however was good....the staff really are nice and respond quite promptly however they should really do something about this 'cheap' attitude or they're gonna chase guests away.

a great place just to hang out and enjoy the nature.
Right on the river are gazebos to have a amazing meal, the staff are very helpful and friendly.
Far away from the standard hotel experience we had a amazing stay in the honeymoon villa.
small details like hammocks all over, free turkeys around and all build in nature materials makes this place very special.
Thanks so much Mina and crew for this great getaway.

Room Tip: Honey moon villa is great for a couple and the river villa for a group of friends. But all other ro...

We stayed 2 nights in The Roots, an eco-resort which consists of individual chalets scattered around a large treefilled area. We had the Riverfront chalet. This has 2 large bedrooms, each with a huge fourposter bed that you almost had to climb up onto, and a big, high double decker bed. The roof is attap, the walls and floor wooden,so it was very rustic and different from a regular hotel room.
(Warning to asthmatics : because of all the "natural" materials, you may find your asthma triggered off - all three of us had to use our asthma inhalers soon after going into the room, but fortunately things settled down after that)

Each room had its own attached bathroom, which had classy tiles and fittings, with hot and cold water (had a "rain" shower which my husband loved).
The rooms are air conditioned and have fans as well, and a fridge and tea and coffee making facilities. There was even a jacuzzi on the balcony -so despite having a rustic feel about it, the mod cons were available. (no TV or room phones though, you're meant to enjoy nature!)( no hairdryers or toiletries provided, I presume going with the ecological theme!)

There is a clear stream that runs through the property, and there are gazebos beside it, where you can sit and have a cup of tea, or just enjoy the peaceful sound of running water.
There is also a smail pool, enough for the small number of guests who were there at the same time as we were.

The other chalets available were the Treehouse chalets (actually built around a huge treetrunk) and the Orchard facing chalets.

Breakfast was included in the price, and although the selection was not extensive, what was served was ample and tasty. Other meals can be had, but food is a bit pricey - might as well drive into Ipoh to get your food, unless you really want to do nothing and go nowhere on your getaway!

Apparently they can organize treks for guests, if you request them, otherwise there is nothing much to do there - which I guess is the whole point of "getting away from it all"! However if you have young children with you, remember to bring a selection of activities to keep them occupied, as sitting quietly and meditating may not be high on their to-do list!

There are student groups frequently staying there as part of their eco-biology education, so it may get a little busy during those times ( we were lucky to be there between groups) - you might want to check on that when you're booking your stay.

The lady who looks after the place was nice and friendly and helped to make the stay a pleasant one.

It was a wonderful break from the hectic city life we lead, and we will certainly go back there again.
