“Half way the East Coast, Kuantan off the beaten track waiting to be explored”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed April 9, 2014

I had only a few days to spare in Malaysia so I decided to travel from KL to the east coast and travel by bus back to Singapore. Kuantan was where I started after a 3 hrs bus ride and Kuantan Backpackers lives up to its name. Its the only backpackers place and worthwhile a visit if you are passing through. It nice to sniff the Malaysian vibe and eat wiith the local people in the many stalls (if you they like you they might even buy your meal).
Kuantan Bprs is just as layedback. No frills as backpacking should be. Clean, minimalistic with all you need (shower, toilet and good beds).
Just dulge into the culture and you will be surprised how great this place actually is

Room Tip: Nope back 2 choiced, with fan of aircom. both are good

Not a lot of experience with Kuantan hotels and hostels but this was a great, cheap stay for me on the one night I needed it. Good location. Kuantan is a great city and very underrated as far as Malaysian cities go.

It's simple but clean and new and has a nice spot to hang out on the couch.

It is located at the premier belt of the city centre, around ed by the shopping malls, emporium, stadium, eating outlets and banks. Only few minutes walk to the local bus terminal, state mosque and central market. You can ride on the public buses to the beaches and Kuantan Sentral (Long distance bus station) very easily.

The hostel occupies one floor in a 3-storey old shop-house. The place is clean but not tidy and not well organized enough. There are two 8-bed Dorms and one 3-bed Dorm for the guests.
Wifi, lockers and security card are provided. The free breakfast is very simple: bread, jams and coffee. Counting for the value that you paid (RM 28 per bed), it is a little bit over-price with thw standard of such kind of hostel in Malaysia.

The lady staff is very pleasant and friendly. Useful map with remarks during check-in time is provided. You got a guidelines about local food, sightseeings and transportation. This is the merit added to the overallreview.

I stayed for one night in Kuantan backpackers! Maybe the price is a little high for Malaysia, but it worth it! It is very clean, with a really good working Wifi. The location is great, just close to the Bus station. BUT be careful, this is not anymore the bus station for interstate bus, it s now 15 minutes away the city! (Since August 2013)
The owner is really helpful, and you can find good informations about Malaysia! I had the room with fan only, so if I can give you an advice, take the aircon one!
The only thing who was sad, we were only 2 in this hostel, but was great!

Room Tip: Take the A/C room!!!

This is a home away from home. Jessin and her mother were extremely friendly and knowledgable. Great atmosphere with good facilities to prepare your own food, good wifi, high security and nice selection of films.

Dorm price is slightly high but you get what you pay for

I and my girlfriend stayed at Kuantan Backpacker for 4 nights.
The Place it self is really nice and clean. There is a free wifi, breakfast, tea or coffee all over the day, DVD, a lot of information about Malaysia, many games and a lot of friendly people. So for the 28 MR you pay you get a lot, just like in a hotel. :)
Also the position of the place is very strategic cause its close to the bus station where you can go everywhere and form where you will probably arrive :) There is a lot of good food around and also the a big store and a cheap laundry.

Jessin is the best owner you can find. She is a great person. She was backpacker herself for long time so she really know what we need and she know a lot where and how to go there.
We played some games with her and when she had free time she show us around the City. We also met her friends which are really funny. Jessin also organize a lot of events for Backpackers and locals, just like a group trecking to the waterfall and stuff like that so you will meet a lot of people and have a great holiday.

If we ever come back to Kuantan we will stay there again. For sure :)

For sure you will never feel boring here :)

The place owner Jessin is very nice , and helpful to give suggestions. Floor is clean, and the environment is comfy. It also provide DVD players, free wifi and free breakfast. Compare expensive hotels, I prefer this hostel more. It is like 30-40 Malaysia Ringgit for one night, but basically can provide all the services that charges by a 4star hotel. Anyway, I really enjoyed my stay here.
Ps: the place is abit hard to find, I suggest the owner may put up some big signs to help guid the guest.
