“Labuan - Reasonable Pricing and Good Location”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed October 4, 2011

Just to share to who intend to visit Labuan, which is an island off Sabah and part of the Federal Territory a reasonable hotel rate and good location. Free Duty island.
Mariners Hotel which is just opposite the Police HQ and Government Building is surrounded by the night life activities. A 5 minutes walk you are at the town centre. Another direction of another 5 minutes you are at the Financial Plaza.
A night is between 130 – 180 Malaysia Ringgit (USD 40 – 60).
Rooms are cosy, air cond setting is adjustable, toilet is fully tiles and clean. Hot shower available and comes with breakfast for 2.
Those into clubbing and nite life are just around the corner and takes less than 2 minutes.
Amenities are on the same row of the hotel. Car rental for a day can take you sightseeing the whole island at the cost of RM100-RM150 a day. Scooter for rental is at RM35 a day.
Sorry didn’t think of taking photos until Trip Advisor notification.
I stayed from 2-4 Oct. 2011

Conclusion it is reasonable, budget and at the right location.

Room Tip: Always ask for a room facing the Main Road!

Visited Labuan after a gap of 36 Years. Main Purpose was to meet old school friends as I grew up in Labuan. My tour operator booked me somewhere else but I requested this particular Hotel after checking the map for the convenience of location. Walking distance to most places I wanted to visit. Got a 1st floor room which was average though a little crammed. We got 2 single beds in place of one double. It was most annoying to see the corridor filled with Service Trolley,Laundry ,etc.etc. Breakfast was just OK. The front office staff - young ladies were very pleasant . General staff had language problem. They only speak Malay. There is room for improvement. However, I think I do not regret my decision to stay at this hotel.

Good thing about this 2 1/2 star hotel is
1. 5 min walking distance to nearby Mall
2. Friendly & helpful staff
3. in city circuit walking distance
4. Nearby food centre only walking distance
5. Good distance to airport
6. The room is nice - stay in Family & exexutive room
7. Utilities and toilet is average - well worth the value
8. Better book early and not advise to walk on booking for hotel in Labuan especially weekend, festive season

Overall - good place to stay for family & bussiness trip

I came during the peak season which most of the hotels in Labuan was full house. Apparently this hotel accept my reservation for two nights. I was damn lucky because they have been upgraded my room to Executive Deluxe, meaning I only paid standard room rate which was RM110 to get the Executive Deluxe Room. Oh man, i tell you, the room was just nice for me and my partner. I have no complaint at all during the 2 nights stay, it was clean and we did enjoyed our stay very much. The food during breakfast was damn good and I dun complaint with the price that I have paid. More over the staffs all very helpful and nice. I do recommend this hotel to everyone. I had stayed at Waterfront, Tiara, Beta, Manikar, Pulau Labuan, Victoria, Sheraton... with the price that I have pay, I choose Mariner the number 1. -Affy

Usually put up in Grand Dorsett but for unknown reason Dorsett, Waterfront and Tiara were all fully booked for this trip. Since I only spend one night, so probably, doesn't matter to give this hotel a try (1st time). Hotel is located near town area where food, beer and night entertainment is just walking distance. It is also few hundreds meter away from Grand Dorsett. So, location wise, good. Check-in is also OK. Front desk called to confirm booking in the afternoon. Room size is decent, cleanliness is OK (however, bed sheet has little bit of stain) but room is really a bit dated. Watermark at A/C area and water pressure is not at the best. A few satellite TV channels, coffee & tea making facility and most importantly, free WiFi are available. Buffet breakfast (limited local food) at the small ground floor cafe is included. Overall, this is a basic 2-star hotel. For MYR 165 a night, I would say you get what you pay for, comparatively with other hotels around. Hotel is generally expensive in Labuan compared with places like Kota Kinabau due to oil & gas activities there. I have to say this hotel is a 4th choice for me. My greatest grief is the bed, it is real hard and the AC humming sound when turned on. This is probably putting me off for my next stay.
