“Not 5*”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed October 7, 2012

On the face of it, this looks like a fab resort - set on its own private island off Langkawi, with lush vegetation and Asian-inspired low rise huts. The experience begins at the jetty where you take the boat ride to the resort. These are timed regularly throughout the day but stop in the evening, otherwise necessitating a very expensive private transfer back. So it is impossible to go to Langkawi for dinner and come back without paying through the nose. Their aim is to keep you hostage on the island for your entire holiday due to this ill thought out arrangement. The boat transfer is also far from luxury.

As soon as you step inside the resort, the cracks begin to show. The room was pleasant enough although we were assigned to a ground floor room that looked directly onto the gardens - not very private. Due to it being a tropical climate, the room felt a bit damp and humid, with a bit of a musty smell. I wouldn't say it was a luxurious room by any means, but it was fine.

The beach is small and not great quality - we used it maybe once, and spent the rest of our time by the pool. The beaches on Langkawi are far superior in quality.

Due to the idiotic boat restrictions, we were confined to eat on the island for most nights. This would have been fine if there was more choice. There seems to be another restaurant by the marina on the island but this was shut leaving only one option. They serve an a la carte menu of international food but overall the quality was lacking and there was no variety, no theme nights and it got incredibly boring night in night out staring at the same old overpriced menu. This was also another bugbear - prices were way higher than on Langkawi - because you are trapped there you are forced to pay but the inflation was ridiculous! I wouldn't have minded if there were 3 - 4 different restaurants we could have tried but there weren't. The most annoying part was the "entertainment" which was simply awful - a couple who moved round each table singing with guitar the same cover songs of Enrique Iglesias night after night.

Overall we had a pleasant trip to Langkawi but I would not stay here again, rather pay more for better quality accommodation on Langkawi itself. The facilities were good - tennis, ping pong etc but there just isn't enough on the island to keep people entertained there, and the quality is 3 - 4* at best. This has put me off staying in any Taj resorts in future.

Room Tip: Choose a sea facing room

Easily the best holiday I have ever had. If you are looking for a peaceful, luxurious escape from the real world this is the place to come.

The staff were so attentive and would do anything for you. The rooms were lovely, and the views from the balconys are amazing! You even get your own plaque on the doors with your surname on it (its the small things!). A couple of mornings we were woken up by the monkeys on the balcony, highly amusing!

If you are looking for nightlife, Rebak is not the place for you. The last boat that we got back was about 10pm (I think this was a staff boat that they let us jump on!)! Many nights we ended up on that boat, with the staff and a take away bag. I think this add's to the charm of the hotel - there really isnt too much to do on the island (there are bikes, canoes, etc)so it really is the perfect escape.

booked this hotel as we were stuck in Langkawi for 8 nights, if you like to relax and put your feet up then this is an ideal place for you.. it takes a boat ride from main land Langkawi to Rebak and takes about 15 minutes, the location of the hotel is fantastic the only thing is you dont get to see the fantastic sunsets Langkawi has to offer, had a great reception from hotel staff and found them very helpful on all accounts , room was a sea veiw and was cleaned and new bedding every day , really quiet and peaceful place with great mountain bikes , kayaks and walks to do , that is if you an drag yourself away from the fantastic beach or the pool......

Room Tip: take one with a sea view , you will not be disappointed..

Had been to this Taj Property on my honeymoon and all I can say is... Those were the best days of our life!!! :)

The arrangements made for us and the way we were treated made us feel simply majestic. It's been more than six months since back and the memories are still freshly etched on our minds.

The experience during the stay was out of the world to say the least. With a private beach to sun bathe and crystal clear beach to wade around in the honeymoon was more of a strictly private affair. There is a virgin beach to discover and click those romantic moments at. Bar by the pool as well as the beach are there to make sure you stay hydrated while indulging in fun moments.

Staff at the resort are extremely courteous and more than happy to service the guests. With caddies available to roam around the huge private property and a sitting area to see monitor lizards being fed during those lazy afternoons is a good sight.

The spread across the breakfast buffet is huge and across cuisines to ensure every one walks away with a happy tummy.

Will certainly go back to this paradise on earth if destiny permits!!!

Room Tip: It's worth spending the extra moolahs and picking a beach facing suite. Else, simply talk to the...

Rebak Island Resort is a very good property on a private island amidst beautiful seas of Langkawi. Boat ride to and fro the main island and resort is amazing. Resort is almost self sufficient with reasonably good restaurant, swimming pool, cycling, library, activity help-desk, bar, lounge, spa, yoga hall, tennis court, sun-set point, etc. Being a private resort, the beach is also well maintained (except for natural low tide where the beach looks ugly, but naturally so). A complete hotel.

Being on private island, night life is missing. Hotel offers free transfers scheduled almost every 1 & 1/2 hours but only upto around 7-30 PM and private transfers are costly. So stay here only if you love to be detached from the world in a beautifully cosy and self sufficient island resort.

Service is reasonable, food is notch above average, location and facities are good. Rooms are good, view form rooms is bit of disappointment as trees obstruct the sea view (but decent enough view). A perfect set-up for honeymooners and family. May not suit the party-lovers, nght-life lovers and gang of friends.

So thumbs-up for Rebak Island Resort.

Room Tip: Garden facing rooms are cheaper and worthy than sea facing, as sea facing rooms are obstructed anywa...

Where do I start. What a beautiful location for our second honeymoon. We were greeted at the airport by the staff of the hotel and it was bliss from then. The short (about 15mins) ferry ride to the hotel was not as bad as I thought, since reading the reviews on here. Yes, it can be a hassle if you wanting to go to the mainland frequently, but then you shouldnt stay here, because this place is awesome if you just want to relax and do nothing.
Food: SUPERB ! We love curries and food with spice, so we were in heaven. The lunches were divine, as they cooked the fish in front of you on a barbeque, as you sat at the beach bar with the sand in your toes, a cold beer and the smell of fresh prawns or fish cooking away.
SERVICE: They are there at your beck and call. Not sure about the tipping, as we did tip and no one gave it back, so one can only assume that they do expect a tip.
ACCOM: Rooms, facing the ocean are just bliss. We could not be happier with our room. The location was about a 4min walk from reception, but was nice to walk back to our room after dinner and drinks and smell the fresh air. The bathrooms are abit dark and could do with a bit more lighting.
A few pointers: The deck chairs as per other resorts get taken quite early by 'towels' and you have to claim yours also quickly, especially if sitting by the pool.
There are not enough hammocks, we only saw 2 and would be nice to have them outside our room , for more privacy.
The firdge in our room worked intermittently and we did report it, and was looked at very promptly.
There should be another pool for adults only as some days, the kids were everywhere splashing and was abit offputting, but bearable.
Book a table in busy periods for supper (we went during Ramadaan) and the resort seemed to be really full after our this.
The spa is not really worth it. Ive had way better massages - BUT the ladies are lovely. Save the RM and go to the mainland for a massage.
Also, the bikes are there for everyones use, but you have to write your name down and you only allowed an hour of riding. Weird, since how, would you steal a bike on an island. They should have more bikes and give us the choice to leave them outside our room , so we can use them whenever we want to.
Otherwise, a great stay and we would definitely go back.

Room Tip: Hussein was our waiter for most of our stay and he was fabulous. definitely goes out of his way to m...

We stayed for 6 nights with kids and had the time of our life . The 400 acre private island is a tropical paradise and the property itself is beautiful and well maintained . There are many activities within the resort like cycling , archery , kayaking , games etc to keep everyone occupied . The ferries run at regular intervals and you have to plan accordingly . Rooms are nice and toilets clean . The restaurant is nice and the food delicious . The service and staff are outstanding . They go to any lengths to please the guests and the legendary Taj hospitality is clearly evident . Nice pool with sunken bar . Anywhere you look in the water you can spot fishes . You are sure to find exotic plants and birds like the hornbill if you take a walk around . The kids want to go back every year .

Room Tip: Spend a bit more and choose the sea front villa
