“OK, but nothing special”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed February 2, 2008

This is a multistory hotel on the island of Langkawi, Malaysia. It's in the middle of a small town with lots of restaurants and some shopping and is right next door to a shopping center. We stayed here because the rest of the island was booked up due to a large international air show. If you stay here you should have your own car since the location is nothing special. The views from the rooms look out to sea but over some shoddy looking vacant lots. The room was fine and the service was spotty. This is a fine place to stay if you can't find anything else on the beach somewhere on the island. Just spend the night here if you must and then move on. The staff was friendly and the price included an excellent breakfast buffet.

  • Liked — You can walk to a lot of good restaurants and there is shopping next door
  • Disliked — Nothing to do here but eat and shop

I paid 163RM for a nights stay and even though it was a cheap rate I got.....wasnt worth it at all. 100RM I wouldnt have mind paying, but not more than that. Standard Room was looking very tired. Bathroom was one of the worst Ive been in. Breatfast was the worst of any hotel Ive ever had in Malaysia. Simply put.....dont bother. Location is ok though....in the city near shopping malls.

We stayed in this Hotel with my group of friends for two nights in this month. On the first day, the hotel staff arranged us a local exiting tour and they charged us heavily. The staff arranged for two local vans and we all got dumped inside.

They took us a waterfall where not even a drop of water exists.
Then we went to hot spring, which was closed at that time.
Then we went to black sand beach, were you cant swim at all.
Finally they took us to a duty free shopping centre and here comes a horrible experience for all of us.

The van drivers started quarreling with the hotel staff for demanding more money since they accompanied more people in each van, and we came to understand that the hotel staff paid only 40% of what we paid and they refused to fetch us back to hotel, they demanded another RM100.00 from us to take back and when we enquired the taxi stand over there, they only charge RM6.00 for a van to drop us to Hotel. Interestingly no van/taxi drivers want us to fetch us to Hotel either. We got fight with every taxi driver and we were in completely on the mercy of the drivers.

The next day we reported this incident to the Hotel Manger and he assured that he will enquire on this matter, but until now ...we understood that it was deaf ears as well. We strongly recommend, Do not ask the hotel to arrange for tour.

Regards

Not a place I wish to go back to. Dirty carpet, bathroom is so old and stained. The curtain dirty and dusty, bet never been washed for a while. I do not think they actually vaccumm the room for I could see the grass from my daughter's slippers on the floor.

The housekeeping never smile, the receptionist too never smile. One or two restaurant staffs were very nice.

When I booked on ------- the description of the hotel was that of a four star hotel in the centre of Kuah Town with a gym and spa... it sounded good. The holiday I wanted was a lazy one - not the traveller type to which I am normally accustomed.

To the surprise of my travelling companion and myself - there was no porter in sight, we were given a double room not a twin, and the sea view room overlooked the mudflats.. We managed to change our room to the non-sea view which had spectacular views of the harbour, islands beyond and the mountains. Both rooms were incredibly spartan with only two small bath towels (no hand towels) and no shower curtain.

However, on the first evening we had an amazing feast - a steam boat for RM15 each (GBP2 or AUD6) which took us 1.5 hours to eat - it was fantastic!!

The clientele are 99% Malaysians, Chinese or Muslim so if you want to wear a bikini by the pool be aware that you might just have an audience. Breakfast is Malaysian style also.

So... it is definitely NOT a 4 star hotel, possibly bordering on a 2.5/3 star. There is no Gym or spa and the pool is quite small. If you want a truly "local" experience and holiday like a native... this is the place for the upmarket budget traveller - however, I would suggest that you will be extremely disappointed if you are looking for a relaxing holiday in the tropics and book at this hotel.
