“nice stay at awana porto malai”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed April 8, 2013

It is a nice quiet place by the sea , just 5 minutes drive from Cenang Beach. Even though there is no beach but the view is magnificent. You will be able to view pristine islands like Dayang Bunting island, Singa Besar island and many more islands. It is easy to charter a boat to go to this islands , just located in the front entrance of the hotel . At Dayang Bunting you will be able to view a large freshwater lake with very tame fish. The lake was originally an underground lake but due to millions of years of erosion the top part of the cavern collapsed. At Singa Besar you will be able to enjoy eagle feeding. If you want to save please join other tourist in chartering a boat than chartering one boat to yourself or small group.

Room Tip: choose the sea view room

priceless sea view especially for the sunrise. room was average, aircond not that cold but suffice for the hot temperature, toilet was ok, no bath tub but shower was strong and very good. breakfast in the cafeteria was plenty to choose, nice and delicious too. hotel manager by the name of mr yap was the best, very kind, resourceful and helpful. highly recommended for the family vacation. spa and swimming pool were another extra points - superb!

Room Tip: get a room with a sea view, you may require to pay more, but its worth it!

I stayed in Resorts world(Awana) from 30th March to 2nd April 2013. The stay here was very comfortable. Very friendly staff. Only negative is the food which is being served here for lunch and breakfast, which is not up to the mark.
The hotel has a bell service from where you can get the cabs to roam around the island. I really dint have to think much about cab service from - to airport as the cab was just a call away.
And the most important thing in this hotel is the sea view. This hotel is just located at the shore of the sea and you can have a beautiful view of sea from the hotel.
There is also a travel service from resorts world, from which you can book the local island tours like Mangrove, Island hopping, snorkeling etc. They also provide some water sports and activities.
Overall a very good experience.
Tip : Please find a room which has a sea view. You can definitely enjoy the sunset and sunrise from the room.

I booked this resort only due to its association with RW Sentosa & RW Genting. When I googled the name, I got an alternate name as Awana Porto Malai Langkawi. In fact, the locals still know this resort by its old name. The resort & its employees seemed still in transition. We got a room in the old wing facing the pool. It was a large room with an attached balcony.
The Seagull restaurant provides a good multi-cuisine breakfast in the morning. We were lucky to be there on a Saturday, as the restaurant hosts a barbecue buffet dinner every Saturday, which is worth trying. The sea view opposite Seagull restaurant is beautiful, having a long stretch of wooden walkway.
The resort is located about 4 km from the main city so you would need some conveyance to & from the resort. Langkawi being a duty-free place, it makes sense to rent either a car or a bike to go around the island. Cenang beach is about 2.5 Km away from the resort & is a nice, clean beach with lots of options for water-sports activities. The resort also helps in booking sight-seeing tours, though it is advisable to check some local stores for a better bargain.

Room Tip: Although we booked a pool-facing room, I recommend sea-facing rooms due to breathtaking scenes.

I chose this Hotel for our last night in Langkawi purely for the view and it was well worth it. The view from our room over the marina and islands was magical! We had a balcony room on the 2nd floor overlooking the seafront restaurant . We had ordered room service from the restaurant and set up the dinner table and chairs on the large balcony. The band played below and it was an experience that money cannot buy.

The room was pretty outdated but there was not anything here that I could fault. You pay for the magical view and that's exactly what we got!

The complimentary breakfast had a lot of choices and we ate ours outside looking over the marina with sea breezes-perfect!!

The next morning the Star Cruise ship docked, which was a sight to see.

I would like to have stayed another night to take a boat out around the islands and this definitely will be on the agenda on our next trip. By that time the rooms may have been renovated. I had booked the Hotel through Expedia when it was called Awana Porto Malai and it had since changed hands and been renamed. I had trouble contacting this Hotel just prior to leaving on a holidays to confirm that I had a balcony seafront room but I did not need to worry as all was good.

The staff seemed friendly and were always smiling. I am not sure how much English they understood but we all got by.

I recommend at least one night stay here purely for the million dollar view over the water in a seafront balcony room.

Room Tip: A balcony sea front room on a high floor is the only room to ask for. The view is magical!!

I was worried the reading reviews about this Resort. I requested for Seaview at the New Wing. Room and bathroom was clean. We got 3rd floor. View was stunning seaview.. Staff were friendly and helpful. Except one short malay girl at the Reception with broken English who gives incorrect info.. This resort is 5 minutes drive from the beach..I recommend this Resort for family with kids.. My son loved love the pool... Do not book hotel near Pantai Cenang if u have kids .It is not suitable.. as your will see a lot of Bachelors hanging around with loud rockers music.. Take yr children for Island Hopping. And they will take to a private beach in the boat. The private beach will have less crowd n it is more decent and kids can play sand and beach at the private beach..

We lucky to see LIMA Rehearsal from my room Balcony... It was fantastic.... Do not miss book this hotel.. N everything else is just 5-10 drives by taxi.. The Hotel will call taxi if when u request. It only takes 1-2 minit for taxi to arive..Per trip RM10...

Room Tip: Room a new wing 2 or 3rd floor .good view

A really really bad experience more like a 2 star hotel, the carpets and curtains had stains all over
sadly I don't have any pictures to show which I truly regret not taking them, the sheets had blood stains even though it was new which I requested from the housekeeper. The towels provided had stains too so DO check each side before using them. There was one housekeeper who was kind enough while she was doing the housekeeping on one of the days flip it over to check before handling it over to me which was commendable. Housekeeping staff were all very friendly makes up the room well but unfortunately doesn't make up for all the stains you can find which is extremely obvious.

The breakfast buffet had very limited choices, if you're traveling alone be sure to keep an eye on your plates as they'll clean the table while you're gone to get more food, not only choices but limited plates and cutlery too.

The balcony had 2 chairs but no coffee table.

The toilet is dirty has hairs all over the place

Another observation, the gym is open only from 0900 on-wards which is very inconvenient for those early risers who works out in the morning before breakfast.

I will never ever live in this hotel ever again thats for sure.
