“Awesome experience with family...”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed August 19, 2013

It was a pleasure staying at the resort. Very scenic beach facing suites. A perfect place to relax. Justifies the true essence of Langkawi. The place is serene and quiet. A very scenic deck for sea view. The room service however is a little average. The staff is inconsiderate towards the basic requests like refurnishing bottle water in the room.

Room Tip: Sea facing rooms are the best for trying. Room services aren't really quick and helpful.

Thank you for choosing our resort during your recent holiday in Langkawi and we are truly happy that you had an awesome experience with family.

It is a norm for housekeeping to daily replenish drinking water unless there was a request to refill what has already been given for which such additionals are chargeable.

Meanwhile we look forward to welcome you again to The Frangipani Langkawi.

Not much wrong with the hotel but everything could be better. Rooms are spartan (though the outdoor shower in the beach front villa that we stayed in was nice). Hospitality was good and so was the food. The hotel can do with a little sprucing up for the price we're paying.

The minute we arrived at the Frangipani I knew that it wasn't going to be a good experience. We had paid Myr 700 per night for a beach front villa only to be told on arrival that we had to pay an extra Myr 80 per night for the kids beds and Myr 30 for their breakfast - that meant that we were paying Myr 920 per night!!!! The room felt grubby the minute we walked in and I didn't even bother to unpack - for 4 days we lived out of a suitcase as I didn't want to put anything away. The food was very basic and over priced - the only chef I saw was the egg chef at breakfast and his uniform was filthy with his packet of cigarettes sitting in his top pocket ! We had to call the handyman out twice to repair our locks and housekeeping to do our room ( once at 4pm) and to be fair they came immediately but I shouldn't have to have called them at all! The children were looking forward to seeing an activity that was advertised but after waiting for 10 mins we went to reception to find out that it had been cancelled - no notification, no apology and when I pointed out that other family's were waiting in the beach and asked if someone was going to tell them reception basically told me that it wasn't their problem. I was told that the sea was too tough but the green flag was flying and it really wouldn't have been too much effort to have let people know. In conclusion the villa we had was in a great location, the security staff were very friendly but the Frangipani is NOT a 4 * hotel and needs to drop its prices and therefore the guests expectations will also be lower. It's a real shame as such an amazing location and super relaxing to be sitting on the terrace watching the sun come down, its just way too expensive - such a shame as the Frangipani could and should be wonderful.

Thank you for selecting our resort and have addressed your review with the respective heads of department.

All our rooms are presentable upon check-in and had we known of your comment on the grubby room, we could have address the matter with you and perhaps offer some explanation if any.

We apologize for the attire condition of the chef at the egg station who had been reprimanded for not being mindful and for the staff who miscommunicated by not notifying you earlier on the bad condition of the sea.

You may rest be assured that remedial actions are being taken. In the mean time we look forward to your return in the near future.

I didn't come here expecting to be pampered and have the time of my life... for that you're going to have to pay AUD$300+ at one of the top end resorts on the island. Malaysia isn't as dirt cheap as other countries! So with that in mind I still had a lovely time here and enjoyed the resort and its facilities.
I had a garden facing villa which is a villa that still faces the ocean but behind the two rows of 'sea facing villas' which was fine. There's a little veranda to sit on and a tap for washing your feet before you go in. Room was a great size and so was the bathroom. The outdoor shower was fun, thought there would be a lot of mosquitoes but didn't really turn out to be the case phew! No bites while showering.
A few TV channels to watch (although BBC news was kaput when I was there), a brolly, a clothes drying rack, a mini couch, table etc. Was quite happy with the room. The sheets and towels were a little worn, bit less fluffy but was fine. You probably didn't want to use the slippers or robe they were not very nice (but I didn't need them so it was fine).
Two pools, the chlorine pool was busier because it was next to the bar and it was nice to lounge around and have food and drinks served at your chair. Pool towels provided although it was a bit strange as the towel shack had a break from 5-6pm so if you wanted towels during that time TOO BAD. Not sure why they can't get other staff to cover that time?
Gym looked ok but was completely unconditioned so I imagine only crazy people would want to use it ;)
Breakfast was a buffet, not the best buffet I've seen but enough variety (changes every day) and items to fill breakfast every day without getting bored. Opens nice and early at 7.30 which is good if you're getting picked up for a tour at 8!
There's also an activity area with table tennis and books (and uncomfortable chairs to sit on) and a tour centre (not the best prices but certainly convenient). Kid's activities planned most days as well which is great. Didn't go to spa because prices were a bit $$$, you can get cheaper treatments just outside.
Highly recommend the walks they give every day so you get a chance to see the green credentials. What they do here is excellent and more resorts should consider their impact on the environment.
So what are the CONS?
Well the lack of wifi in most areas was a bit of a pain. Even in areas where you can get it sometimes it was very flaky and not work for hours! Also the best area was the lobby and waiting area but this area gets VERY hot and stuff with no air con (or sea breeze).
The absolute WORST part of staying here were unfortunately ... the staff and service. They actually weren't very attentive or pleasant for the most part. No smiles, no hellos, and my biggest bugbear, if you were waiting for them they would TOTALLY IGNORE YOU. So if you're left waiting for 15 minutes because they're dealing with someone else they would ignore you and not even acknowledge you were waiting. A simple 'please wait, I'll be with you as soon as possible' would be nice, but instead you just felt.. ignored! It took an AGE to get anything sorted, such as drinks served, checked in or out etc. Sometimes reception was completely empty and you have no idea where any staff have gone, no bell, no sign or anything...
This meant I took one star off BUT otherwise it was a nice stay and I do recommend it... just wish it could have been even better if the staff were a bit more lovely! Not everyone was like this, the eco staff (ones looking after the green practices) were nice and I think the owner walked around and talked to people and he was REALLY lovely!

Thank you for staying with us and your candid review will only spur us to be more vigilant to our flaws with the desire to minimize if not to eliminate.

We are earnestly in a dire predicament to wait for our vendor to supply the parts that affected the only BBC channel which are unavailable in the Langkawi Island, while various options for a wider Wi-Fi coverage is being pursued.

Handling human resources are one of the most challenging aspects to muster and no amount of training will suffice if it only takes one staff not to toe the line. Be rest assured that remedial action is being taken in no uncertain terms for fault offenders. Besides, staff training is an ongoing process which is being looked into with earnesty.

It pleases us to know that your stay was pleasant and we are truly appreciative of your kind gesture to recommend our resort to others despite certain criteria did not meet to your expectation for which we are sorry.

In the interim, we look forward to your return to stay at our resort to experience the new us, in our quest to always improve for the betterment of our loyal guest like yourself.

Yes it's pretty dated. Yes it could do with a refurbishment inside and out..but for its location which is central to all the restaurants in Pantai Cenang and the pools and general facilities - pretty good value. A little complaint though the bed is so hard. I woke up with a backache every morning!!! And the mosquitoes had a feast till we bought our insellant repellant sprays which weren't very Eco of us but kept them at bay! Generally a good place to stay.

We thank you for staying with us and your kind review of a good value resort.

The Frangipani is in the midst of its planning to have the next refurbishment and upgrading project with the hope to meet guests’ satisfaction and demand.

Mosquito fogging is an ongoing exercise that is being carried out by a team of people to help with the control of the environment for a healthier living.

In the mean time we look forward to welcome you again in the near future.

It's a great hotel, good swimmingpool, big rooms with a outdoor shower, thats very great.
It is easy to walk to Cenang where you can shop and eat.
It's near by the airport, and you can rent a scooter to discover Langkawi.
Breakfast is good, al lot of choice.
To eat in the hotel is more expensive than the restaurants in Cenang.

Room Tip: Garden View of Beach View than you have a outdoor shower.

It's not a 5 star resort but it was clean, the room was spacious ,very pleasant and really comfortable;we enjoyed the outside shower;it was very good value for money. Our room was far from the bar and swimming pool areas and it was literally a few steps away from the beach. Thus quiet and peaceful. We enjoyed the beach more than the pool ,but if you travel with small children, the pool is the ideal place to relax and keep an eye on them. The staff was really friendly and helpful and provided our extra requests with a smile every time.It is also only a pleasant walk away from the shops ,bars and restaurants. It needs a little face lift;especially the roofs of the bungalows. That would make a huge difference to the overall feeling of the resort.Ignore the negative comments about the breakfasts and what else. They are from people who are discontented anyway. We couldn't be happier. We also had great appreciation for the fact that the resort focuses on being green.

Room Tip: Choose a room away from the busy pool area. And the ones just behind the sea facing rooms are juts a...
