Being from Japan, my wife and I know a thing or two about service. But the staff of the Tanjung Rhu never ceased to amaze us. In the way they were considerate, the way they were flexible to our needs, and they way they seemed genuinely happy to greet all the guests. Trust us, this is no easy feat.
We were on our honeymoon, and opted for the all inclusive plan which gave us not only three meals, but drinks(non-alcoholic) by the pool, room service and even high tea at the reading room. We ended up going to the reading room quite often as we loved the tranquility and the various selection of books, probably left by previous guests.
Each night, we looked forward to going to the Rhu restaurant to have our dinner, the quality of the food was top notch and the service was immaculate. The staff also remembered the faces of the guests and their preferences, which made the experience feel even more unique and special. The fact that a live band played across the Rhu (at the reading room) also added to the atmosphere.
As mentioned by previous reviewers, the reception area was nothing special but we were pleasantly surprised by the spaciousness of the room and how there was a nice, romantic bathroom window which opened up to connect to the living room. And the balcony ahead of that.
Each day, after hours of sunbathing and swimming, we would come back to a room filled with luxurious, exotic scents due to scented candles lit by the cleaning staff.
Now to the most important thing, the beach/pools. Since we went during off season, we never had to worry about not getting a sunchair or a shortage of towels. There are three pools at the Tanjung Rhu, and the resort had a beautiful private beach where you could swim in peace without feeling crowded. It felt like a private paradise.
There is also a game room above the Saffron restaurant with pool tables, a dart board and several other games. It was a nice way to pass time during the occasional rainshowers.
One other thing before we conclude our review--the Tanjung Rhu has it's very own non-official mascot, a friendly(?) lizard named Jake. He lives in the pond and streams within the resort, and is rumored to have two girlfriends, one who lives with him in the resort and one within the mangrove behind the resort. We had the pleasure of meeting Jake and his resident girlfriend nearly everyday.
If we were to point out something negative, the excursions are slightly more expensive than the regular tours provided within the island, and the staff keep the rooms freezing cold--it was 15 degrees celsius when we checked the air conditioner! But the room temperature can easily be changed, and of course, that will not keep us from returning to the Tanjung Rhu again.
