“berjaya... paradise on earth”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed March 9, 2014

traveled with family to langkawi and was suggested to stay at berjaya..... the moment we entered the hotel i could realise the sheer size of the resort since the end was not visible from there.... a spread out place with villas and chalets... i managed to get the one facing the sea and next to it.... i suggest always get these ones only.... to reach the chalet was through the resort cart and i must say that through out my stay they did an excellent service in all pick ups and the drops... the morning breakfast had a lavish spread and also took care of the indian guest.... the resort has its private beach and gives all the time to enjoy the serenity... i could not manage to visit one of the restaurants which extends into the sea through the stills but surely believe will be an amazing experience in case people dine there... overall a world class place and not be missed if travelling to this small island.....

Room Tip: don't miss their breakfast buffet.....outstanding...

I recently spent 5 nights at this resort and thoroughly enjoyed most of it. There is a selection of bars and restaurants all with helpful, friendly staff. Our room which was a rainforest chalet was of excellent quality, we did have a slight problem with a leak in our bathroom but it was dealt with promptly although it was late at night. The beach here is beautiful with a beach bar providing drinks and snacks, towels were available at the pool. The main pool is well designed with a waterfall and there is also a splash pool and sun terraces with plenty of sun beds. The food in the Chinese Restaurant was lovely and we ate there twice but I was very disappointed in the food at the Beach Restaurant and the Thai Restaurant however breakfast was very good with plenty of variety and the freshly baked pastries and croissants were the best I have tasted. The shuttle service was excellent, sometimes there was a short wait but to be fair they are very busy and the service was well organised

I booked the rainforest plus package which was the all inclusive package and was worried by some of the negative reviews on trip advisor but I can safely say it was one of the best resorts I have stayed at.

The resort itself is absolutely massive; apparently it’s the largest in langkawi. This does make the resort busy at breakfast but otherwise its perfect. The chalets are very impressive, amazing how you can be in a 5* room in the rainforest. The room was very spacious and the balcony lovely to enjoy the rainforest and views of the sea in the distance.

I would like to address some of the points made by other reviewers which scared me initially.

Service:
The service is not always perfect, however this is usually because English is not always understood to great degree by all staff, if you are sensible and explain what you need without going into complicated English then everything will get done without issue. Some of the restaurants are a bit slow sometimes but if you call over the waitress and ask for the bill/starters etc.. then things are fine. Overall we had no issue with check in/check out and small questions were answered. The food was only a bit slow on one night.

Food
As part of the all inclusive you get set menus and a la carte at restaurants and I must say this was outstanding. The amount of the food you get in set menu is more than enough, starter/soup/main (usually a tasting of few dishes)/dessert. The Oriental Pearl/Pahn Thai/Beach Restuarnt/ Dayang Café were all amazing. The food quality was top notch and we had nothing to complain about however we were let down by Mizumi the Japanese restaurant though the ambience and décor there was brilliant.

Shuttles:
As the resort is so large you need to take shuttles back and forth, out of the 15 times we used the shuttle only once was the wait 20minutes (we needed to call again) though this right the peak dinner rush hour otherwise we had shuttle at our chalet within 5 minutes.

Rainforest:
You are staying in the rainforest so expect to see Monkeys/Lizards/Geckos insects which make a lot of noise. Though once your in your room and the air con is on you don’t hear any of the noise outside and we slept very well without fear of being attacked by monkeys 

Spa
We booked a special couple package and for the price we paid we really enjoyed the treatment, more special was that you then had access to the spa areas all day which has sauna/steam room etc. The spa was very quiet which meant my wife and I enjoyed using all the facilities and areas looking over to the sea. Definitely worth it.

Overall the rooms are fantastic; the resort is large which many restaurants of top quality food. The location is stunning in the rainforest with wild life all around you. The service is very good but just needs a bit of a touch to make this place unbeatable.

Would I go back, yes of course without a shadow of doubt., enjoy your holiday here.

Room Tip: Go for the all inclusive package, well worth it.

We held our wedding party here on October last year for about 40paxs, we and our guests were happy with all the arrangement by the Resort. Food, room and staff service was excellent. I would like to thanks to all the staffs especially Mr. Roger Chew for making a memorable day for us.

Me, my husband, and our 16 month old son had booked for a stay on 1st - 3rd March at the resort. On 2nd March, both me and my husband was on the way back to our room on the shuttle and along with us, there were two housekeepers. Halfway through, the driver was about to assist another guest to load their luggage into the shuttle. While doing so, the driver turned off the engine and pulled up the handbrakes.

Unfortunately, the handbrake gave way and the shuttle was rolling downhill and we were very close of going over the ledge. The two housekeepers jumped off the shuttle and in the process one broke her hand, and the other had a deep gash on her face. My husband was preparing to jump.

In the nick of time, the driver managed to rush back and slammed on the brakes and in the process of the impact, my wrist was twisted very badly, requiring me to have my wrist immobilize and to have home rest for 1 week. We were thankful that my 16 month old son was at the Kids Club at the time of the incident, or else he would have been flung out of the shuttle from the impact.

We were later informed that the driver did not follow the proper safety procedure. There were witnesses (i.e. other guests) who can vouch that the above did indeed occur.

This is clearly a misconduct and negligent on the part of the driver and the resort. What disappoint us the most was that there weren't even a formal apology from the resort or some sort of compensation - until we approach the front office ourselves. We had to ask for a small token so that I could seek medical treatment back home in Kuala Lumpur.

It was appalling that the staff at the resort didn't even know that we were on that shuttle!! And above all, if my son was on that shuttle, he would be grievously hurt!

We have just arrived back home after 11 fabulous nights at the Berjaya Beach. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay, loved our tree house room in the rainforest. Enjoyed eating in the Beach Restaurant the most. We had e mailed the hotel before we arrived and asked for a quiet room and we were really happy with the room we were given and also with the cake and fruit which were left in our room as it was our Anniversary. We spent our last day in the spa as we had a late flight so the spa said we could spend the day there, we had a massage and a meal at the spa and then showered and changed there before our flight home. The spa is amazing and the massage wonderful. We enjoyed our stay there so much and loved watching the flying lemurs in the tree above our tree house at night and loved the monkeys and all the birds in the rainforest and watching the sunrise. This hotel exceeded our expectations for the price and the star it is . rating.

Room Tip: We e mailed the hotel with a room request as read that the shuttle buses can be noisy. We were allo...
