“Great resort secluded from the action on the island”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed October 13, 2013

We had stayed here for 5 nights with my family. We had booked a Rainforest Chalet but when we went there we upgraded to a Seaview Chalet and that was a great decision as the view was nice from the Seaview. We had also taken the "PLUS" package and that included the breakfast, lunch and dinner for all 5 nights. With 2 young kids this was an awesome decision as this resort is secluded in a corner of the island and 30 minutes away from Pantai Cenang where most of the restaurants are. There are a few restaurants in a complex near the resort but not many.

The resort has 4 restaurants to choose from and that was really nice as you wouldn't want to eat at the same place everyday. The swimming pool was great and kid friendly and with a great view of the beach and sea. My kids enjoyed the pool the most ! The beach was really nice but had a lot of seaweed. The bathrooms in the resort are really out-dated and need to be renovated.

PROS: Great swimming pool and a releaxing resort if you want to stay just within the resort as it has all the amenities.
CONS: 30 minutes away from Pantai Cenang where the main action of Langkawi is. If you want to stay at the heart of the action this is not the right place.

Room Tip: Seaview Chalet had very good view of the beach, sea and mountains.

This is my third stay here.... what can I say....I just love this place!!!

I had requested the same room we always stay in and discovered it had been totally renovated. It was so spacious....I fell in love with this place again!! The Bathroom....omg....was just wow and sooo big. The Bed was amazing, really comfortable!!

The staff are great, really helpful! The only thing I would say is that the shuttle service has reduced in comparison to our previous stays. We found we had to wait longer the shuttle services.

The Spa is a must here, they are so good. They were renovating the spa during our stay and had moved some of the facilities to a temporary location. As full services was not available, spa treatments were discounted...which again we were happy with.

Breakfast is lovely. Had noticed the choice of food on the room service menu had been reduced as well. The only thing I really don't like, is the fact there is no bottle opener in the rooms. When we requested a bottle opener, we had to wait 40 mins, when it came, we were told we could not keep it and if we needed it again, we should call. This I think the hotel needs to change.

The other thing I would like to point out is that there are a lot of Arabs here. Found most of them very rude to staff and wasting a lot of food.

Plenty of activities to keep you busy!

See you soon Berjaya!!!

I have been staying at Berjaya with my friends this July. It was a great experience we were staying at the room facing the sea and the view was spectacular.

The hotel offers great all you can eat breakfast with a great choice of delicious meals and fruits.

We have just returned from 9 fantastic days at the Berjaya resort. We stayed in a rainforest chalet, which had a view of the rainforest and upon request, we were kindly relocated to another chalet with a view of the resort and partial ocean view. Both chalets were comfortable and very clean, with a rain shower head in each with great pressure. All staff were very friendly and helpful at all times.
We ate the majority of our meals at the resort and found the Deyang and Pahn Thai restaurants served the best food. Room service was also exceptional. Breakfast was included in our package and there was a great selection of dishes to suit the various cultural tastes and an abundance of food to choose from. The view from the Deyang restaurant at brekky was stunning too.
The resort caters for almost everything that you need on holidays - a lovely pool with deck chairs, pool bar, meals, drinks delivered and complimentary pool towels. The beach is also very nice, with more deckchairs, a bar and beach activities. However, beware of the rocks in the sand at low tide - I cut my foot on the rocks. High tide is better for swimming at the beach.
The resort staff also organise tours. We ventured on the island hopping tour of three islands, with transport provided. This was a great day, the boat went very fast as we seemed to have a bigger motor on our boat than the other boats, which we overtook. It was scary at first, but we got used to it after the first trip. The islands are very pretty - beware of the monkeys as they will steal your food and drinks from you. For any pregnant women, I would consider not taking the tour, as its quite bumpy when wavy and you do bounce up and down quite a bit.
Definitely make a trip to Oriental Village, they have great tourist shops and I would recommend eating at the Laila's Kebab House. I went back for seconds for the hommus and naan bread. The cable car is an experience well worth taking, the view from the top is spectacular. I had a full body massage, plus an extra foot massage at the Langkawi Anjung Spa (at Oriental village) and it was very good. I felt relaxed and the premises are clean and modern.
If you are looking for other restaurants to eat at, we ventured to Pandana Quay and ate at Mare Blu, an Italian restaurant. We had pizza which we considered better than pizzas back home and happy hour beers were only RM5 (AUS$1.50) for a pint. Definitely well worth the trip.
For trips into Kuah and Patai Chenang, taxis are the best way to go.
Overall, a great resort with exceptional service and catering for all visitors. I would recommend this resort for couples and families. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay.

Room Tip: For rainforest chalets, try rooms 4103 - 4106. They are single chalets, have a better view and you...

We stayed in a rain forest chalet. As one would expect the chalet was dark being in the shadow of the trees so don't expect to be bathed in sun. We had a very relaxing stay and the pool and facilities were good. We had stayed at Puket a few years earlier and despite being on the same coast line and an hours flight away we found Malaysia doesn't have the hassle or sleaze we found in Thailand. We did find less English speaking guests we could talk to as many were Arabic. The staff however understood English well. There is not a lot to see at Langkawi so relaxing is pretty compulsory. Overall we thought a great destination with being in the rainforest a point of difference. Beach wasn't inviting this time of year.

Room Tip: Closer to the hotel is better for walking in the heat and rain

We stayed in one of the Presidential Suites. The suites were on stilts over water with a large balcony hence we had lovely views of the sea. Although the suite was spacious and clean, the decor was however somewhat dated and felt very 80s. I guess that's no surprise since it IS an old resort. But having said that, they seem to be upgrading some of the chalets so some of the suites/chalets may be more modern and newer. In general, it's a lovely, tranquil and massive resort but if you prefer the beach or pool to be on your doorstep then this isn't the resort for you as all the chalets/bungalows are a little distance away - at least a few minutes walk by foot or you can wait for the hotel buggy to pick you up. Btw, as it's set in a rainforest, you get to see a number of interesting animals which was a lovely surprise!

Stayed at Berjaya for 2 nights. It was a beautiful resort with amazing facilities set in the middle of the rainforest.

The staff were also extremely helpful and friendly.

Location is right next to oriental village with the shuttle service able drop you off the if needed. Otherwise it's a 5 minute walk. If you do want to go to other areas of the island though it is a little far and inconvenient. Options are to rent a car or to catch a taxi (26 ringgit to pantai cenang).

Overall really good resort and if you are after rest and relaxation and lounging by the pool or at the beach highly recommended.
