“Beautiful hotel grounds, so-so room”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed May 17, 2013

My wife and I stayed at the Berjaya for 4 nights during our first part of our honeymoon. We booked a premiere chalet on water.

The room felt a little dated for the price we payed. It was clean and comfortable though. The view from our room was nice, but it did feel a little boxed in. Some of the chalets clearly have much better views that the others. If you look on the map, chalets 1504,1505, 1514, 1516, 1523, and 1524 seem to have the best views out of the premiers. Chalets 1512 and 1518 seemed to have the worst views. I'm not sure if you can request a specific room ahead of time, but it might be worth a shot.

The hotel itself was amazing, and we really did have a wonderful time. My wife and I loved walking through the grounds admiring all the nature. The pool and beach were a lot of fun. The restaurants were good, especially the Thai restaurant.

We rented a car and bikes from the hotel. It was quick and easy. We had a blast exploring the island on our own.

We had a beautiful premier chalet over the water for 3 nights. The chalet was breath taking and modern! When me and my fiance walked in to our chalet we couldn't believe how beautiful it was. From the views of the ocean from out private balcony, to the views still visible from the double spa bath! The bed was amazing and comfortable and the amenities were aromatic and lovely.

The entire resort is surrounded by rainforest and is filled with lovely curious monkeys that are harmless but very cute!! The pool is awesome and the swim up bar makes the most delicious cocktails and will make you whatever cocktail you want!

My fiance sailed me around on the mini sailboats available for hire and out in the ocean the view of the resort and the cable car in the distance was beautiful.

The only "downside" i would say is having to call for the shuttle to come and shuttle you to and from your chalet to the main area of the resort. The premier chalets are towards the back end of the resort which is great for privacy but takes about half and hour to walk to the pools and breakfast. We ended up catching the shuttle to breakfast and walking back through the lovely trees.

Also this is a family friendly resort so if you are looking for a quieter getaway i would suggest going up north like we did and staying there for a few nights of adults only time.

Room Tip: If you like the water the Premier Chalets are gorgeous!!

It did not help that our request for more suitable room due to health reasons were not met, at arrival, we found the room assigned to be dirty and linens stained. Staff were less than helpful in reassigning room even though resort was not full.

Food at the outlets were subpar and flies were found even monkeys chomping on leftovers. Whilst some might find this rustic, even colourful, it speaks much to us about how this resort handles its hygiene issues.

The nearest attraction is the Oriental village and cable car. Worth a visit for the latter, can't say the same for the village.

Having been here before, we headed out to Cenang before checking in and during our stay, especially since there were more food outlets and the night market.

We might try Kuah town the next time we visit this once vibrant island.

Yes, the old adage...never trust its book by its cover, in this case, photos, rings true here.

Dear Valued Guest,
Thank you for your feedback on your recent stay. We are sorry that we were unable to accommodate your request for a room closer to the lobby. You are right that the resort was not ‘full’, however as your request was made three days prior to your arrival, rooms closer to the lobby were already taken up.

The issue of flies at the outlet is unfortunately a seasonal thing and as you would have seen best efforts were taken to keep them away by placing candles, food covers and keeping the area clean. The incidence of the monkey chomping on leftovers was as a result of it grabbing food from the dining tables. As the resort is amidst the rainforest which is rich in wildlife, such incidences do occur occasionally. Again efforts are made by staff to keep the monkeys at bay but not always successful as they are rather intelligent and know how to get around.
We will endeavour to meet your expectations the next time, hopefully if you would give us another chance in making up for the other shortfalls as highlighted in your review.

With my best regards

This resort is set in a perfect location. Rainforest, ocean and wildlife. Huge resort with many styles of rooms. We in fact stayed in 3. First was a rainforest room very nice newly decorated but it had a musty smell and made me feel sick in the chest. In the end we finished up in the studio rainforest and this room was great with views to the ocean. But keep in mind the cheapest option the rainforest room is very nice. Food was good but not great. The Thai was excellent the buffet breakfast okay but had better. The new spa was fantastic. Monkeys everywhere I loved it. Pool large and fun. The hotel is getting old and reception and restaurant in need of a refurb although they are very clean and fine. The rooms are being updated with the rainforest already finished. I world stay here again the value for money and location are well worth it compared to other resorts in the area.

We booked this resort for 5nights as the pictures were very promising. However, few reviews did create some doubts in our mind. But we are glad we booked it.

Check in - Smooth
Rooms - Spacious with balcony
Restaurants and bars- Very lively with good food.
Food - Fabulous
Recreational activities - Beach volleyball, swimming pool, table tennis, pool, dart games, other board games, movies in open amphitheater, jetskii, and other water sports.

The property is huge and there's something for everyone. The flora and fauna at the resort is vast. You can see gecko and monkeys anywhere. It might be a rare site for people from west, so they enjoy staying at Forest chalet. I recommend don't stay there if you are scared of such animals.

Tips-
Premier chalet on water are ideal, however Seaview chalets are also good. Try n avoid rainforest chalet.

Bad service by the Filipinos at the front desk. They can't speak proper English and I had great difficulty in understanding them. Otherwise, a good resort. Stayed in the Rainforest Chalet. Clean rooms.

Great beach resort, with everything you could think of. The pool area is gorgeous and the beach even better. We had a go on the jetskis and everything was very well run. They have a shuttle service that picks you up from your chalet straight away and drives you to the reception.
The buffet breakfast was plentiful and well run. We did eat in a couple of the restaurants which were ok.
The rooms were clean and everything you needed was supplied.
I've only given a very good rating for this resort rather than an excellent because of our noisy neighbours. I'd booked into a partial seaview chalet (and it was very partial) We were put into a block of 4 flats, which apparently we'd been upgraded to.
The walls were very thin, therefore I've only given a very good rating for this resort rather than an excellent because of our noisy neighbours, who were screeching on the phone from 3 oclock in the morning, we could also hear the person on the other end of the phone!
The staff did look to see if they could move us but unfortunately there wasn't anywhere else available. A bang on the wall from me and a complaint from the people above us meant a talking from the security staff on the second night and it seemed to quiet them down anyway.
Overall and well run resort
