This was our third visit and we had a couples retreat package which gave us a rainforest studio, a meal in the Thai restaurant, one in the main restaurant, two massages and a voucher for water sports. Overall very good value for money. The room was large and comfortable and as the name suggests surrounded by trees. The set meal in the Thai restaurant was excellent and our waitress was very good at trying to keep everyone happy despite the fact she was rushed off her feet. Our second meal at the main restaurant was disappointing and due to misinformation from one of the restaurant staff we ended at a carvery evening which we definitely wouldn't have chosen but had run out of days. Breakfast is ok but trying to be all things to everyone. This resort has increased in size and even tho it was just at 64% capacity felt really full at meal times and around the pool and the beach. It was very difficult to get a sunlounger in the shade due both to the number of guests and the usual early sunlounger baggers who then don't use it for most of the day. The dangerous wooden sun umbrellas have been taken down but not really replaced with anything to give shade. The sea seems to be full of small stinging things which make it uncomfortable even if the sting passes quickly. The shuttle service was efficient and everyone smiled and said hello. I can see why people like this place but for me it's too much like mass catering and I don't think we'll come back. If you do visit make sure you do one of the Dev's morning or evening walks or the mangrove walk - they really give you another view of the resort and who you're sharing it with.

The atmosphere was so nice. No rush feeling. The breakfast at the beach restaurant made my day; go for all the fresh juices, ginger the and omelets! Best restaurant was of course the Asian one on the sea, best to book a day in advance. I went there with my family, kids age 7 and 3,- they had a great time. This is a place for honeymooners and family so well for older people. We miss it already...

I think most has already been said about this place. Overall if you go for the rainforest chalet it is good value. Ask for a standalone chalet and sea view. Yes, also some of the standard rainforest chalets have great sea views. The restaurants are good but do not expect haute cuisine. Food prices are higher in the hotel compared to the outside villages but that is what you would expect.
Overall the service is good to very good.

The main issue for me with this hotel was the noise of the shuttle trucks and numerous scooters the staff drive continuously up and down the hill... That kept me awake in the late evenings, early mornings and sometimes at night. Even ear plugs did not really help... I cannot understand why the hotel has not replaced yet these very smelly and noisy vehicles by electric cars?

I stayed at the Berjaya for 6 nights on a hoilday with 5 other friends, we shared 3 rooms, in fact they weren't rooms, they where beautiful rain forest chalets. The Hotel is about 15 mins away from the airport, upon arrival we were dealt with smiles and friendly staff (her name was Shalanni), who checked us in, told us about the cheeky monkeys and explained how the important shuttle system works. The Rainforest chalets are as the name suggest in the forest area of the resort, which a re accessible via a 24 hour shuttle service, we took the shuttle to the room which can take 2 to 6 mins depending how how far you are from the hotel lobby. The chalets are build on top high foundations that sit among the trees. The rooms themselves were clean and nice, the animals from the towels were a nice touch. The bathroom was big with a large shower and good lighting. Rooms also had a balcony with table and chairs, great for chilling and enjoying the sounds of the rainforest.

When we needed to explore the island or resort we called for a shuttle which would arrive within 4 to 8 mins, this would take us back to the hotel lobby, from which you have a bar, restaurants, a shop, a nice sized gym which i made use of, a bar/games room (pool, table tennis, playstation) and of course, the beach and swimming pool. The resort has 2 main pools which were lovely especially when the sun went down. The beach area is nice, with loads of deck chairs looking out to the beautiful view of the sky, sea and sand. The beach was very clean and well maintained. Nearby and accessable via the free shuttle is the cable car and Oriental village, which housed loads of tourist shops and local food. Be sure to head to the food court and look for Tweenz Cafe, its a very simple and cheap food place, we ate there a lot as the food was real local Malay food.

The service from the main restaurant wasn't the best, we were not waited on at all, however there was no service charge added, which was maybe why! however the food was good and reasonably priced. Overall, the hotel was lovely, i rented a car from a nearby local and got to explore some of the other hotel options nearby was right to choice Berjaya as it was head and shoulders above the rest. Staff were nice and friendly and the facties were great. I dont think its a 5 star resort. I'd give the stay a 4/5 and i would come back again, due to the unique style of the rainforest chalets
