“Stunning surroundings make this hotel the ideal choice.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed March 21, 2013 via mobile

Stayed here for 3 nights and can honestly say I wish it was more !

As a travel agent I'm generally quite difficult to please but the Berjaya was amazing on every level.

We stayed in a rainforest chalet which was
lovely (particularly liked the rain shower).
We were a little way from reception but a quick call to the shuttle bus desk meant we were soon picked up !

The resort itself is relaxing and quiet and this means a totally chilled out experience.

The pool area was lovely with some shady spots to take cover from the heat.

The beach is amazing too and also a little cooler as you get a nice breeze and again plenty of shaded areas if you want a break from the heat.

There's a few restaurants on site we tried the Thai and the Chinese and we were very pleased with both and in fairness they were very well priced considering you we're eating within the hotel.

Bar wise there's a few but to be honest we just chilled in the one in the lobby which had a live band on. Prices for drinks not to over the top either !

Staff were excellent a real credit to the hotel.

Wifi is available all round the resort you just get a code from reception.

From a location point of view it's quite isolated but that just adds to the relaxation.
Langkawi is so reasonably priced if you want a meal or few drink out at the main resort of Pantai Cenang then it's about £6 in a taxi each way and takes about 30 minutes.

Would I return...YES ! Excellent few days just wish it had been longer !!

This was our third visit and we had a couples retreat package which gave us a rainforest studio, a meal in the Thai restaurant, one in the main restaurant, two massages and a voucher for water sports. Overall very good value for money. The room was large and comfortable and as the name suggests surrounded by trees. The set meal in the Thai restaurant was excellent and our waitress was very good at trying to keep everyone happy despite the fact she was rushed off her feet. Our second meal at the main restaurant was disappointing and due to misinformation from one of the restaurant staff we ended at a carvery evening which we definitely wouldn't have chosen but had run out of days. Breakfast is ok but trying to be all things to everyone. This resort has increased in size and even tho it was just at 64% capacity felt really full at meal times and around the pool and the beach. It was very difficult to get a sunlounger in the shade due both to the number of guests and the usual early sunlounger baggers who then don't use it for most of the day. The dangerous wooden sun umbrellas have been taken down but not really replaced with anything to give shade. The sea seems to be full of small stinging things which make it uncomfortable even if the sting passes quickly. The shuttle service was efficient and everyone smiled and said hello. I can see why people like this place but for me it's too much like mass catering and I don't think we'll come back. If you do visit make sure you do one of the Dev's morning or evening walks or the mangrove walk - they really give you another view of the resort and who you're sharing it with.

Room Tip: Don't get one too far from the lobby

The atmosphere was so nice. No rush feeling. The breakfast at the beach restaurant made my day; go for all the fresh juices, ginger the and omelets! Best restaurant was of course the Asian one on the sea, best to book a day in advance. I went there with my family, kids age 7 and 3,- they had a great time. This is a place for honeymooners and family so well for older people. We miss it already...

Room Tip: I think all chalets are good but nice to have one near the reastaurants, pool and mainbuilding

I think most has already been said about this place. Overall if you go for the rainforest chalet it is good value. Ask for a standalone chalet and sea view. Yes, also some of the standard rainforest chalets have great sea views. The restaurants are good but do not expect haute cuisine. Food prices are higher in the hotel compared to the outside villages but that is what you would expect.
Overall the service is good to very good.

The main issue for me with this hotel was the noise of the shuttle trucks and numerous scooters the staff drive continuously up and down the hill... That kept me awake in the late evenings, early mornings and sometimes at night. Even ear plugs did not really help... I cannot understand why the hotel has not replaced yet these very smelly and noisy vehicles by electric cars?

I stayed at the Berjaya for 6 nights on a hoilday with 5 other friends, we shared 3 rooms, in fact they weren't rooms, they where beautiful rain forest chalets. The Hotel is about 15 mins away from the airport, upon arrival we were dealt with smiles and friendly staff (her name was Shalanni), who checked us in, told us about the cheeky monkeys and explained how the important shuttle system works. The Rainforest chalets are as the name suggest in the forest area of the resort, which a re accessible via a 24 hour shuttle service, we took the shuttle to the room which can take 2 to 6 mins depending how how far you are from the hotel lobby. The chalets are build on top high foundations that sit among the trees. The rooms themselves were clean and nice, the animals from the towels were a nice touch. The bathroom was big with a large shower and good lighting. Rooms also had a balcony with table and chairs, great for chilling and enjoying the sounds of the rainforest.

When we needed to explore the island or resort we called for a shuttle which would arrive within 4 to 8 mins, this would take us back to the hotel lobby, from which you have a bar, restaurants, a shop, a nice sized gym which i made use of, a bar/games room (pool, table tennis, playstation) and of course, the beach and swimming pool. The resort has 2 main pools which were lovely especially when the sun went down. The beach area is nice, with loads of deck chairs looking out to the beautiful view of the sky, sea and sand. The beach was very clean and well maintained. Nearby and accessable via the free shuttle is the cable car and Oriental village, which housed loads of tourist shops and local food. Be sure to head to the food court and look for Tweenz Cafe, its a very simple and cheap food place, we ate there a lot as the food was real local Malay food.

The service from the main restaurant wasn't the best, we were not waited on at all, however there was no service charge added, which was maybe why! however the food was good and reasonably priced. Overall, the hotel was lovely, i rented a car from a nearby local and got to explore some of the other hotel options nearby was right to choice Berjaya as it was head and shoulders above the rest. Staff were nice and friendly and the facties were great. I dont think its a 5 star resort. I'd give the stay a 4/5 and i would come back again, due to the unique style of the rainforest chalets

Well what an incredible experience. This was our first visit to Malaysia and we didn't really know what to expect. My wife and I arrived from KL with four friends having spent four days there to familiarise ouselves with the climate and activities.Taxis are plentiful and cheap and we hired a maxi taxi for six to the resort which took about half an hour because of it's location. The foyer was massive and was covered by a tiled roof which had a fountain in the centre near the reservation desk and opened out to a bar/restaurant with open views to the bay and the pool area.We caught a free shuttle bus to our Seaview Chalet which operates most times and where you can either be picked up from your Chalet or catch it from the lobby. The room was lovely with a view from the balcony of the bay which was about 200 metres away. The various chalets are built on a small hillside amongst a forest and the tarred roads interconnect so all chalets are accessible by road with footbaths also running along and down the hill to the various chalets. There is constant maintainence going on from painting to gardening to cleaning. The combination of nature and modern living make one very relaxed. The chalets very in size but all enjoy a bar fridge, airconditioning, balconies and bathrooms with an abundance of hot/cold water. All the staff have smiles and wish you good morning from the shuttle bus drivers driving past, the gardeners, the cleaners, maintainence staff and the security guys. Not forgetting the reception and lobby staff and all the bar and restaurant guys. They are only to happy to tell you where they're from and from the information I heard it appears they are well treated by the hotel chain which makes fo a happy staff member.I spent some time at the pool which is superb
with swimming on the bay only 200mtrs away.Food is great at the resort with plenty of various dishes available to satisfy the most fastidious. We only had four days at the resort and found it difficult to leave as another three days would have been great to see more of the sights on the island and enjoy more relaxation around the pool. There are plenty of bars at the resort and the prices are very reasonable. There are small squirrels that come down from the pine trees near the breakfast area and hop and leap nearby doing all sort of acrobatic tricks for free.Monkeys are prevalent and balconies must be locked.I have walked past them on a number of times and they take no notice. They appear to be attracted to chalet balconies where better pickings may be found,They also gave us a late check-out (4pm) at no extra cost.
A must place to visit or return to.I believe this resort to be of a 5 star rating and deservedly so.

My wife and i stayed at the Berjaya early March and couldn't have been more impressed. Overall the resort is spectacular being located in amazing rainforest surroundings as well as being situated on a stunning beach.
The resort is located a 25 minute drive from the main area of Pantai Cenang, so if you are after somewhere close to everything, this is not your place. However, the beauty of Berjaya lies in how secluded it is as well as offering guests the choice of 5 restaurants, numerous bars and plenty of activities. You must try the Thai restaurant. Amazing overwater setting and quality food!! The evening nature walk is also awesome.
You really feel as though you do not need to leave the resort at any stage, however if you feel like a change of scenery, the Oriental Village is only a five minute walk away with plenty of shops and restaurants. It also is the starting point for the Langkawi Cable Car which is also a must for spectacular views. We stayed in a rainforest chalet which was modern, very spacious and very comfortable. We had our own balcony which was a great place for a quiet drink while watching monkeys and other wildlife go about their business. The resort pool area is massive with plenty of sun lounges. I do recommend getting down early though as most people reserve sun lounges before breakfast. The beach area is also fantastic with a netted area to swim in and beautiful soft white sand.
Looking forward to getting back to the Berjaya in the near future.
