My wife & I stayed at The Andaman for our honeymoon and we would happily return there again and again.
The hotel itself is stunning and in our opinion looks nicer than it's more expensive sister hotel The Datai. The service we received from the start to the time we left was amazing - the staff's attention to detail and friendliness made our stay even better. For us the hotel made us special and not like one couple around lots of others.
The location is idillic - set at the edge of the rainforest and next to the sea makes it a perfect location for couples.. It is remote however the cost of car hire and taxis is reasonable. We would suggest hiring a car to make the most out of the island. The hotel offered good excursions too.
We could not have wanted anymore from a hotel for our honeymoon.

I travelled to Andaman with my family of 17 ppl including children. It was all superb right from the start-from the service right up to the quality of the hotel. But our disgusted moment has arrived in the evening when we went to the Japanese restaurant for our dinner. We bought the full board package where all meals are inclusive and we are told and assured that it was ala carte buffet-meaning we can eat all we can in the ala carte menu without limitations. However, when some of my family members would like makes orders for the lobster sets menu, they were told that it is out of stock. We are ok with that if it is true but we are absolutely upset when the other guest who arrived much later got to enjoy the lobster sets which they claimed is out of stock! Does it mean we are prevented from ordering simply because some of us have already ordered the same dish? We are still tolerant about this whole situation but not again when it happens again on the 2nd night!!! We are all so disappointed with the whole situation. If we are not allowed to makes orders of certain dishes than we should have been told right from the beginning – but the fact was we pay the price where we are allow to makes any order absolutely at our choice but we are not given our rights to do that!

I came to Andaman seeking a peaceful time away from the life in a city. The resort looks very good from the outside and inside. Checking in was a breeze, you are seated in the lounge and served a welcome drink. The staffs will attend to all the check-in process, no hassle at all.

The surrounding area is filled with the sounds of a rainforest and it gives me the relaxed feeling. The large pool and the white sandy beach was a great place to relax. Expect to have children running around though, as this hotel seems to cater to families more than couples.

The rooms were of a decent size and had a view of the rainforest. Great for those who likes to be close to nature in the comforts of a luxurious hotel. The service however was quite a letdown. Housekeeping was poor, the room was not turned over as expected. After a call to request, housekeeping only attend to my request in the evening. For a resort of this standard, you would expect this to be done when you returned from breakfast.

Management response from TheAndaman-Manager, GM
(Management representative)
Jun 10, 2009
Dear EnigmaKL,

Thank you for sharing your comments on Tripadvisor subsequent to your stay at The Andaman, we greatly appreciate the feedback you have provided us.

Although I regret very much to note that you seem to have been disappointed with the number of children during your visit, our resort does pride itself in being family friendly and we enjoy welcoming children especially during the traditional school holidays and other festive occasions which allow families to spend time together.

Given the size and extensive layout of our resort, I will note however, that we also do offer many alternative venues and locations within the property that are ideally suited for those seeking a quieter and less lively setting.

Thank you very much once again for your invaluable feedback.

Sincerely,

Akira Moreno
General Manager

It’s a fantastic place in the forest, is the perfect place for relaxation! The staff was very Friendly and willing to help you any time for anything!!!

Pros:
The Good thing for this hotel is that is located on the beach in the forest! From your window you can see many animals like monkeys …

The Beach is ok! The swimming pool is fantastic!

The food at the restaurant or to the Bar that was located almost on the beach is great!!!

Cons:
Is not a place that you can go if you DON’T like relaxation is too quiet.

Is too far away from everything else 45 minutes, but there is a bus that go to the city regularly.

The food price compared to the price that you can find in other places is expensive

Overall is a FANTASTIC PLACE! ! !

The Andaman has it all. Situated in pristine rainforest yet directly next to the beach, you really do get the best of both worlds. We stayed in a rainforest view room as part of a deal, and I'm glad we didn't pay extra for a sea view. The rooms are identical and the sea views are limited anyway so I didn't feel I was missing out. When we stood on the balcony we could hear the rainforest, see the monkeys and listen to the lap of the waves - a perfect combination. We hired a car - recommended given the 45min journey to any other civilisation, and had the opportunity to experience the other joys of Langkawi. We'd recommend Langkawi Falls on the road to the Andaman. Climb the stairs to reach fabulous rock pools - take your swimming costume! We also visited the Datai and given the climb down to the beach, I'd say that the double prices are not worth it. Langkawi is duty free so we got around the expensive hotel prices by buying bottles of wine, and drinking them on the numerous terraces in the hotel. The staff were more than happy to provide us with glasses and a corkscrew. The sea water was very clean, much better than some other areas I've been to in Malaysia, and the nature walk in the morning was a great experience because the guide is very knowledgable. Do eat in the main restaurant for dinner at least once - the lamb is particularly good. Another evening we ate at the pool bar watching the sunset. One thing Langkawi does keep a secret is their rainy season May - November. A guide told us this. We were there in April and the rain was beginning to set in. Still, the Andaman more than made up for it!
PS. There is a chute in the pool - don't leave it just to the kids..!
