The resourt is amazing and the env. is perfect. Suitable for all kind of people families and so. Good relaxing, stress relieve and good food.

But make sure to buy snaks on the way as there is no nearby grocery.

If you’ve read the hotel’s official website, everything it says is true.

There are rooms in the central building and there are villas peppered across the surrounding rainforest. If you get a beach villa, you’ll be delightfully sandwiched between Datai Bay (Andaman Sea) in front and rainforest behind. If not a beach villa, you could still be walking distance (a minute or two) from the beach; some villas even have private Jacuzzi pools. Otherwise, just call the bell desk for a buggy that’ll transport you to the beach, to the main reception lobby, to the restaurants…..and I’m sure they’ll even send one for a quick round of the rainforest within which the resort nestles. Staying in one of the villas is a true rainforest experience.

The service of course is magnificent.

They have four or five dining options in addition to room service but the Gulai House (for Malaysian and Indian cuisine) is a must try.

There’s an on-call naturalist who really knows his stuff and its worth taking time off to go for a morning or evening walk with him. They’ll also organise your excursions; the two that are really worth trying are the Langkawi cable car and the Mangroves tour.

...the perfect rainforest retreat.

Room Tip: Get a villa with a pool and a quick walk away from the beach

We stayed here a few months ago with our 18 month old daughter and couldn't have loved it more. We stayed in a villa which was huge and beautiful. The bathroom was a haven of happiness! Coffee on the balcony looking for monkeys in the morning was great fun, and living in the middle of the rainforest really brought you close to nature in the most luxurious way!

Both pools were great (we snuck to the adult pool while the little one was sleeping which was among the most beautiful pools I have ever seen). The beach pool could not have been a more perfect balance of relaxing while accommodating to little ones. It was in no way over run by children but it was fine to have them there, and being close to the beach our daughter could run between both all day long which she did.
The restaurants were mostly great, I think breakfast could have been a bit better quality but that would be being very fussy.

As relatively new parents still coming to terms with not being allowed to tranquil adult only spa hotels, we could not have asked for better. The fact that they are not over accommodating to children in terms of kids clubs etc means that the place is not overrun with children but those that are around are welcomed and catered for, and as the beach is so huge and beautiful there are plenty of ways for children to entertain themselves with a bit of imagination!

Thank Mr Datal for creating a haven which we cant wait to return to!

This was our first time to Langkawi and after a stay at The Datai, I do not think it will be our last! We stayed for 6 nights in 2 Superior Villas nestled within the rainforest connected by a veranda with an outdoor dining table. The Villas were breathtaking, with a large bedroom with an extremely comfortable bed and an equally large bathroom with high quality amenities. The cleanliness of the room was excellent with a turn-down service in the evening. The only minor point of the entire stay was the air conditioning unit within the villas which appeared a bit old and were a little noisy and powerful especially at night even with minimum power.

There are two pools at the hotel, one for only adults which is at the top of the hotel near the reception, which we did not try and one near the beach and beach club which was always wonderfully warm. However even better was the beach and sea. The beach was completely deserted with soft sand and small crabs scuttling around. The sea was the best bit about the hotel, despite a warning of jellyfish (we only saw some small dead ones at the end of the beach and a large pink one 100m off the shore), it was warm clean and not too rough making it ideal to swim throughout the day.

The rainforest around the hotel is spectacular. The sounds at night kept us awake for the first night as they all sounded new to us. In the morning we would have monkeys on the balcony and roof looking for food. The hotel provided complimentary nature walks through the resort with an expert guide, Irshaad. His passion and knowledge made the walks memorable and were able to see insects, animals and birds that we might have never seen otherwise.

The staff definitely the greatest asset of the hotel. Their customer service was excellent, where possible they would address guests my name and the dining staff would remember personal preferences. Guest Relations manager Inna really helped to make our stay special from welcoming us on day one to coming down to the beach to make sure our stay was okay.

The hotel arranged for us to have a car for a day which enabled us to have a look around the whole of the island. This allowed us to see where the other hotels on the island including the Four Seasons, Tanjung Rhu and Meritus. After seeing all of these I can honestly say that The Datai has the best location on the island with the best beach and greatest exclusivity. For anyone looking for a hotel in Langkawi, I can recommend no other place!

Room Tip: Choose a Villa as they are close to the beach/pool and they provide the best rainforest experience.

We stayed at the Datai over the long weekend and all I can say: it was perfect! The staff was very accommodating, the rooms were nice and included a huge bathroom with a separate tube and shower. The complex is situated perfectly into the hilly landscape and surrounded by sluggish rain forest with direct access to a private beach. Two pools, six restaurants and a SPA complement the hotel complex. The water sports such kayaking, surfing and the like are complementary. The breakfast was excellent so was the lunch and dinner. We very much enjoyed our stay and are very much looking forward to coming back!

We were a bit apprehensive about re-visiting Datai as our first experience last year was so good we wondered whether it would live up to our expectations. We needn't have worried as the experience the 2nd time around was the equal of our first. The level of communication between the resort staff is incredible...they are so well briefed on each guest that is like catching up with old friends.

Datai is the perfect place to relax and unwind. Each morning we had breakfast around 9.30am and then walked, eschewing the resort buggies, to the beach through the rainforest. Let's face it, the short walk wasn't really going to offset the breakfast but something is better than nothing!

Once at the beach we" assumed the position" on our sun lounges and just read books, swam in the Andaman Sea and generally relaxed, interspersed with little treats from the staff e.g. sorbet, ice-cream and drinks.

Dinner at night was either at the Gulai House (Traditional Malay), Pavilion (Thai cuisine) or the Beach House (Contemporary). The black pepper lobster at the Pavilion was sensational and the food at the Beach House was beautiful. The setting for the Gulai House, in the midst of the forest, is amazing.

However, what makes the Datai a special place is "the well oiled machine" that is the staff! They are truly amazing! Nothing is too much trouble and they delight in going the extra mile. Notable in this regard were Tony, Shaiful and Yoke who made breakfast special each day and whom we would then run into again throughout the day and night at various venues.

We visited the spa on two occasions and found the treatments excellent.

2nd time around was so good, we hope to make a visit to the Datai an annual affair.

Room Tip: We stayed in a room on the top floor on the East side.

We have been coming to Datai every year for some time. It is the best hotel in this part of the word to our knowledge , from perfect sandy and empty beach, superb and personal service , fantastic food with a huge choice , monkeys hopping on the balconies and wildlife just to die for ..

Room Tip: We love staying at the end corner suites. With two kids it is a massive size and an easy access to t...
