“Wonderful beach, good hotel”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed April 8, 2013

The Datai Hotel is located at a remote beach with the smoothest sand quality at Langkawi Island. The colour of the sand is a bit less white than compared with e. g. the beach at the Four Seasons Hotel (which is my fafourite in Langkawi), but definitely finer. The datay bay is wonderfully located in a rainforest, only few rooms / villas have direct access to the beach. Therefore, you may encounter more moskitos. However, the staff is efficient and attentive, doubtlessly international 5-star standard. The beach is for residents only.

This year, the hotel celebrates ist 20-year anniversary. I was in Langkawi also when the Datai Hotel was under construction, 20 years ago; now there are 3 hotels close together at this wonderful beach which is a bit sad: it was much nicer before and feeling more remote, of course. Anyway, the hotel is nice and definitely worth a stay.

Dear Valued Guest,

Thank you first and foremost for taking the time to review our property.

We agree with you that Datai Bay has the finest white sand on the island and we are proud of the natural elements we have been blessed with here, from the pristine waters to our lush rainforest.

We are indeed celebrating out 20th Anniversary come December and hope that you will be able to return and participate in all the festivities.

We thank you yet again for your patronage and hope to welcome you back soon.

We had eight lovely days. We stayed in a superior villa with our two children 8 and 6. Good room. Beach and pools good. Sea was fantastic. It was very warm and gently sloping with no rocks. Food was exceptional and a highlight of the trip. The gulai house (Indian / Malaysian) would be one of our favourites if it was in London. Staff very efficient and friendly. Overall a great place to stay and will be back.

Room Tip: We staved in villa 16. Overlooked rainforest and would be recommended.

This is a resort of total relaxtion and zen, if your looking for a relaxing, rejuvenating destination where there is nio need to leave the resort...then look no further. I found a few issues that I have dealt with that I think wouldnt effect anyone else's stay, the team,. the rooms, the pools and the beach are magnificent.

We left the hotel once in 6 days and didnt feel the need to leave again...

Room Tip: We moved from the main hotel to a villa, both were fabulous.

Third stay at this superb hotel, but first time since a new ownership took over;for this reason, were anxious to have some desillusion. No way:some employees are still in charge;reckonising you with even a better service.Food in the 4 restaurants is excellent...Thaï in one, malaysian in a other, international in the main(excellent),theme buffet ,changing every day in the Beachhouse.
2 gorgeous swimming pools, but most people prefer to stay at the marvellous private white sandbeach.
Location of the hotel is in the rainforest near a large whitesandbeach.Stay here only to relax, forget nightclubs or disco:it's not "Clubmed".Many come here since years to enjoy the quiet scenery.
For all this:you need deep pockets...

Room Tip: If you take a villa, ask for one not to far from the main building:you are on a hill:can be steep;but...

My wife and I stayed here in Datai for a week at the beginning of March.
It was our honeymoon, and I would like to thank Azila and Inna from
management for the superb welcome.
We had a lovely memorable stay and the reason we chose The Datai is because
three years previously we stayed next door in The Andaman and we did explore the Datai then. So I said to my mind I will bring my wife here on our honeymoon.
We love Malaysia and in Particular Langkawi Island, lovely sandy beach and not one single parasol to be seen, you get the shade from the lovely trees as the hotel is tucked
away in the jungle. It’s a lovely ten minutes walk to the beach through the jungle, perfect
after the lovely breakfast by the pool, the walk is steep going back, alternatively you
can request a buggy at any time.My wife and I walked it every day and so often you see
the leaf monkey having a feast, squirrels and quite often the hornbill birds.
few times we ate in the pavilion restaurant(Thai Cuisine), booking a must to get a table as it can be very busy, and the food is superb (the prawn cake starter vey yammy appetizer)
We went for the sea food buffet one evening by the beach and it was superb.
My wife is Russian born, and the 8th of March is women’s day, so it was nice surprise
to get back to our room and there it was a nicely made cake to mark the event.
It was a pleasure staying here and I would like to thank all the staff for the lovely memories we brought back home.
Malaysia is truly Asia and we will be back soon, May be Borneo next.

Dear Valued Guest,

We are thrilled that you and your wife had a great honeymoon here at The Datai.

Azila and Inna expressed their delight in hosting you and your wife and send their regards, in fact, so does the rest of the team here at The Datai.

There is something truly magical about this rainforest and we are glad that it has contributed to a beautiful stay. It has kept the team at The Datai in awe of nature's true beauty.

We thank you for your patronage and hope to see you back on the island soon.

This is a great and wonderful place to stay. The staff were very friendly and accommodating. The villa was clean and luxurious with clear internet access. The beach area was clean, tranquil and semi private due to the spaciousness and layout. The beach club dining was very romantic and the food was delicious. Although you are in the rainforest close to nature it is very relaxing and safe. I only stayed three days, but I will come back again and again. It was a lovely experience.

Room Tip: The deluxe room was sufficient for me and my husband. I believe all the rooms are villas. It's j...

We have stayed here around 10 times over 15 years. The location is superb on a beautiful private bay, with clean sea and warm waters.
The service level used to be iffy, like you would call for a buggy from your villa to reception and you would have to chase it 3 or 4 times, but no more. Everything happens as it should. The breakfast room is excellent and service wondeful. A choice of western, malay or loads of super fruit.
The Thai restaurant is spectacular, on stilts over the jungle and with exquisite thai cuisine and good value wines like a Humbrecht gerwurtztraminer, always best with spicy food, at around £ 50, so the same as London.
The gem is the Gulai house, an Indian on the beach between the Datai and the Andemann of such quality it is equalled only by the Cinnamon Club or Benares in London. Yet the food and wine are much better value. We dined here twice and wished for more.
The bar and its frog pool are also a delight with great service.
The beach is lovely with good service, free ice creams, late afternnon free dacquires etc.
The only thing which needs improving are the rooms. They were great 15 even 10 years ago but now are out of date in every respect although well maintained and lean. Some refurb will elevate this place to a top 10 in the world.

Room Tip: Choose a villa
