After travelling for well over 30 hours we arrived at this impressive Hotel.
There is a great big open, airy and spacious reception area and from the back you look out over the pools and sea. Although there are fans rotating it is still very warm.
We arrived on a Flight from Kuala Lumpur, which was our connecting Flight from the UK. So we had no say over what time we arrived, in fact it was around 11.30am.
The Receptionist told us our room was not ready and to go and sit in the reception area. After an hour we felt so hot and travel weary and thirsty my Husband went to ask what was happening. They said our room was still not ready so they would find us another room. We now know the Hotel was only half full so I do not know why we were subjected to this extended wait! Meanwhile we were brought a glass of water and a damp flannel, which was just better than nothing at all!
The room we were taken to was along a disused wing that was being refurbished and redecorated, so we had to step over cables, tools and other paraphernalia. The room was on the ground floor at the end of a long corridor, very dark and had trees and plants outside blocking any light and view. The view was of a grass area – no sea or pool – and the small balcony was dirty with garden debris, but it would not have been of any use for sitting out on because of the darkness and lack of any view.
On our booking form we were told we would get an “upgraded room allocated on arrival”. When I mentioned this I was told it was an upgrade! I now know this was not true and it was the lowest worst area, around the side of the hotel. However, as we found lots of things in this room did not work – safe, coffee maker & no towels - my husband, in exasperation, went back to reception and asked for another room. This was when got a nice room on the second floor with views.
Although this was a very disappointing start on what is advertised as a 5 star hotel, the rest of our stay was very pleasant.
I had been worried by other people’s reports about the small beach etc. The beach is long and has shady areas with trees, so perfect for relaxing on. The only thing worth mentioning is that the sea is not clear, because of the part of the Island the hotel is located on and also there are coral bits so you need to watch where you step. We did go in the sea, which was also very warm!
This is a Spa Hotel but we did not use the spa or treatments. However, we found that the pool by the Spa was not being used by anyone during our stay so we had a pleasant stroll along the beach every day to sit by our own infinity pool. It was lovely and peaceful.
There are in fact a few pools. A very large infinity one with a bar which can be viewed from the hotel bar and restaurant. It looks stunning but in fact is very very warm so no good for swimming or even “cooling off”. There is also a shallow baby one near it. Along a bit further there is a lovely rock pool swimming area. Again it is quite warm but very pleasant.
We had Bed & Breakfast accommodation and really you cannot fault the vast array and variety of foods. I am Coeliac and they understood my dietary needs and always had bread and cake available for me.
The bedroom was large and airy and comfortable and water and shower products were plentiful and replaced twice a day.
We chose to go down the road to the Langkawi Sailing club for dinner one night and that was very nice and cost half of the price of dinner in the Hotel. We also walked a bit further to the shopping mall and had a McDonalds one day. There is a free shuttle bus twice a day between the shopping mall and hotel.
I would recommend this hotel and would like to go there again.
However, I was disappointed with our lack of welcome and preparation for our arrival. The Room Up-Grade which did not happen, and we are Sharwood Preferred Guests, I also see someone mentioned Sparkling Wine being available at Breakfast, but I did not see this during our week stay and was not offered it either! We should also have received a bowel of fruit on arrival, which never appeared!
