“the staff, Anna & Nizam, made it a great stay!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed April 28, 2013

We stayed at Ambong Ambong for a yoga retreat instructed by Dorothy, Langkawi Yoga, during Mar. 24~29, 2013. Honestly, my friend & I had been shocked while we got there, seeing how steep the slopes were. However, after 5-day stay, we not only get used to them, but appreicated to have such additional exercise after a great meal at Unkaizan, the famous Japanese restaurant.

The room was cool and clean. The only disappointment was not able to see the sea from our window or from the balcony. The in-room breakfast, with fresh juice, fruit and bread, was nice but I started to crave for salad, eggs, and some salty flavors from the third day.( I'll much appreciate if such deli will be supplied in the future stay.)

What made it a great stay, the credit must go to Anna's & Nizam's incredible responsiveness and hospitality. I will surely return because of them!

Thanks for signing up for the Yoga Retreat with Dorothy of Langkawi Yoga. If I may say so, she is the best yoga instructress on the island.

As for the steepness of the hill, we decided it was a small price to pay in order to preserve the hill which is home to the hornbills, dusky leaf monkeys and the giant squirrels, not to mention the birds and the other wildlife. By the way there is transport provided right up to your room. But like you, most of our guests prefer to walk for that extra workout!

Yes the Deli......we are currently building 3 more suites and as soon as that is completed we promise we will embark on a small Deli.

Lastly, both Anna & Nizam are delighted with your compliments and they look forward to pampering you even more on your next visit .

Beautiful and relaxing, set amongst the rainforest with a fantastic spa and magnificent Japanese restaurant below. Just far enough away from the hassle and bustle to feel like your a million miles away but only a short stroll to some superb dining. The views from the your own private deck make it hard to leave your room during the day. Look forward to our next stay

Thank you for your great review. We hope the Yoga & Ayurvedic Programme was enjoyable and fruitful.

Like you, many of our guests rave about the Japanese restaurant and the Spa.

You are also right about the deck/ balcony as many of our guests enjoy it too and hardly leave their rooms!

We hope both of you will visit us again soon after your happy event.

After searching Trip Advisor we booked a triple storey- 2 bedroom 'cottage' at Ambong Ambong for our family of 2 adult daughters and ourselves. We expected something rustic and were surprised to find such well appointed, light, airy and contemporary accommodation which catered perfectly to our needs. Our hosts were unobtrusive and extremely accommodating. The pool and surroundings provided just the environment for us to relax, unwind and to use as a base to explore Langkawi. Our only regret was that we missed the yoga retreat so we think we will have to return!

Like you, most of our guests have travelled widely and have stayed in the best hotels, so we wanted to provide them with a totally different experience.
We are delighted that you and your family enjoyed your stay with us. It was a pity that you missed the Yoga retreat but it is definitely a good excuse to come back!
We work very closely with Ishan Spa and Langkawi Yoga which are independent operators. Please look up our website for more details and we look forward to pampering you again soon.

We had a wonderful time at this resort. Anna and Nizam are very welcoming and helpful.
We were in a 2 bedroom chalet above the office which was very spacious, clean and well decorated. We received lots of advice from Nizam when we arrived. On top of that, we received complimentary drinks, vouchers for a free massage, reduction in the restaurant, etc.. The resort is at the end of a calmer street on Langkawi, which made it very tranquil (in comparison with some of the other streets on the island). Though the beach was a short walk from our room and many restaurants are in walking distance as well. We also rented a car from a shop in walking distance from the resort. In the morning you can have breakfast in bed or on your terrace with a great view. In the mornings, we sometimes also saw monkeys in the trees around our terrace.
On our last day, we only had a flight at 7pm. As we spent the day on the beach, they offered us to have a shower in the spa before we left for the airport, great service!
I'd definitely recommend this to others! We were very happy to have picked this place.

Thank you for your kind words. Anna, Nizam and the team look forward to your next visit. Believe me, there will be more packages for guests who book directly with us at the same time we guarantee the lowest rates.

We have the added advantage as we work very well with the Spa and the Japanese restaurant which are independant operators on the same location. Check out Trip Advisor and you will quickly realise that they are top of the league.

Duration of my stay: 3 days, 2 nights.
Type of Accommodation: Triple Storey 2-Bedroom Cottage (Name = Dayang Bunting).

Summary of the Stay Experience:
We had unique experience at here with 100% relaxation which accompanied with various sounds of the inhabitants in the forest. The back to the nature feeling was the one that we treasured most which it provide the calming and soothing effect to our body and soul. We were excited on the sighting of the monkeys around the cottage (we do not have this chance back to the city live). Besides, we were having a good laugh everytime we had to walk up the steep stairs.

The cottage is designed and built with quality together with contemporary architecture. styles and colours. We were totally satisfied with everything inside the cottage especially the bed, the shower and the balcony. The DIY breakfast concept will be a big YES from us because we could have our own sweet time to enjoy our meal. The home-made bread and jam were delicious accompanied with a glass of refreshing orange juice. Wow!

Prior to my arrival, I had informed the famous team, Anna and the Team, that I was going to celebrate my sister's birthday. They had decorated my cottage with colourful ballons and ribbons. Besides, a tasty birthday cake as a surprise. Moreover, we had the easiest way to check in and check out with no hassle. During the check in time which took place inside the cottage (a new experience), Anna had provided usefull and honest opinions on what can we do in the island. This is the top notch customer service! Keep up the good work.

We will definitely come again.

Hi Anson....you have indeed captured the essential spirit of Ambong-Ambong, unwind, relax and enjoy the jungle serenande.

You will be pleased to know that our dusky leaf monkeys have had new offsprings lately and we are excited that two new babies have joined the tribe. Evidently the environment is still safe for them.

Anna is delighted with your compliment and that their reputation has remained unscathed!!
Do visit us again soon.

I did lots of research online and finally decided to stay in this retreat. It took us quite some effort to find the place. Yet when we arrived, we were simply amazed!! The room is spacy. The design is modern. I like the balcony most where there is the rainforest view and the sea further ahead. Spending the whole day at the balcony is a wonderful experience, enjoying the sunshine and the sea breeze. Next time when I trave to Langkawi, this is THE place that I will come back again without a doubt. :)

Room Tip: Rooms at higher level have the sea view.

Hi Virginia,

We are delighted that you decided to stay with us after doing a thorough online research on where to stay in langkawi. We do not compete with the league of 5 star hotels but we do try to offer something special for our guests.

The balcony has been a favourite with our guests and should we build more studios, we will definitely make it bigger and more comfortable. As for your difficulty in finding our place, rest assured that we will look into this.
Thanks for staying with us and we look forward to welcoming you again soon.

I stayed at Ambong-Ambong for four days as part of the yoga retreat with Dorothy (Langkawi Yoga). I wish I had stayed for a few more days as I really loved this place. Coming from London I just wanted to be in a totally relaxing environment that was beautiful, lush and peaceful. However, having already traveled quite a bit around South East Asia I was looking for something a bit more interesting than the usual luxe hotel / beach holiday getaway. This retreat therefore ticked all the right boxes - tucked away in the jungle with great views of the sea (amazing sunsets!) and surrounded by lush greenery you really feel connected to this beautiful island. The retreat is also just over 5 minutes walk from the beach so if you want to go for a swim then you don't have to go far - early morning dips is a must and quite lovely.

I had one of the one bed studio rooms with balcony and I just really like the set up. Clean, modern rooms with cool interiors the rooms come with all mod cons but also a small kitchen area which is a really good idea as it fits in with the whole concept of this unique hotel. Breakfast is brought to your room a day before so you can start the most important meal of the day in your own time, in your own headspace! Great idea. If you are planning to stay a few days you might want to consider bringing a few supplies and treats to eat as they don't have a cafe on site just yet. But don't let this put you off as there is an excellent Japanese restaurant on site - great food but a bit pricey. Also there's loads of restaurants in walking distance.

In addition to the location, Ishan Spa is also a real plus here. With a wide range of treatments on offer this is definitely one of the many highlights of staying at Ambong and is a must - the hair treatment and facial are both excellent.

In terms of activities I would suggest combining your stay with the yoga retreat offered by Langkawi Yoga would be worth it and add that something different to your stay. I really enjoyed the yoga retreat inspiring me to take up practice again - sunset / sunrise yoga - wonderful. I also tried the island hopping tour and for 25 ringgit it's a must. The tour includes a visit to the gorgeous Beras Besah island with water as clear and turquoise blue as any in Thailand or the Philippines which was a nice surprise.

Would I go back to AA? Most definitely. If you are after a holiday that offers something a bit more than the usual tour then this is for you.

Room Tip: Ask for the seaview studios on the top floor.

Hi Sabeena,
Thank you for that lovely review and we are glad that you had an enjoyable and relaxing stay at Ambong-Ambong. You were lucky that the weather was fine and you experienced gorgeous sunsets and an inspiring time with your yoga teacher, Dorothy.

I must say you had a wonderful group of yoga participants from all corners of the world who were strangers initially, but got on famously.
You will be pleased to know that we will seriously consider having a small deli with a limited healthy menu to cater for guests like you who sometimes prefer to stay in and unwind.

You were a delightful guest and we look forward to welcoming you again in the not too distant future.
