We booked 2 connecting rooms via phone call & text last July 10. Major communication channel with their staff is through SMS which is unusual. We reserved the room by paying the first night via their RHB fund transfer for 169RM per room per night. They don't automatically send confirmation email so I had to asked them for one, just to be sure of our reservation.
Checked-in last August 8-11.
Upon check-in, we paid the balance for the 2 more nights that we will stay. An argument came up when I asked the receptionist regarding our breakfast. She said that they don't provide breakfast for the whole month of August. I told her that we were not informed before and we are expecting for breakfast since the rate, as published on their website, comes with complimentary breakfast for two persons per room. She phone called her manager and we talked.
The manager apologized for not informing us that there will be no breakfast for the month of August. She admitted that it was a shortcoming from their side but she was pointing out that the breakfast is free-of-charge, meaning that we didn't pay for it. The room cost, with or without breakfast, is the same. She even said that they can give back our money and we can move to other hotel. I must say that we were very disappointed. Their way to resolve our conflict is not to make up with their mistakes but by asking us to go, which is I think is not a good management strategy. She didn't even consider our welfare before asking us to leave. It was raining that day and it's a peak season so almost all of the hotels are fully book. So despite of our ill-feeling, we decided to get the room without breakfast.
Each room has balcony, mini-fridge, air-condition, TV, 2 cups, own toilet, and 2 single beds. If you opt for the king size bed, they will just put the 2 single beds together. The pillow and the bed is soft, but the blanket is thin and just like a big towel. Only one room has water kettle, but no free coffee nor tea. One room has a electric mosquito repellent while the other room has automatic air freshener. The TV has local and satellite channels but the signal is inconsistent. Every morning, I ask the receptionist to fix the signal of the satellite channels.
The bathroom comes with hot shower, 2 bath towels, bath slippers. The toilet sink is very small and the bidet looks dirty. The location of the shower is not good, making all of the things inside the bathroom to get wet when you bathe. There are mosquitoes inside.
They clean the room everyday around lunch time but I'm not sure how they do it. The beds are fixed but used cups remain unwashed and the floor is not swept. One day, we came back before lunch time and the door was left opened but nobody was inside. Good thing is nothing was stolen.
The room has 3 doors, the main door, the sliding door, and the connecting door. The main door is controlled by a magnetic key that shuts down the electricity when you go out. The sliding door is locked by a normal key. So we mainly used the sliding door instead of the main one. But the key of the sliding door of Cabin 1001 is not working so we used the sliding door of Cabin 1002 to enter our room via the connecting door.
The room has no phone. To ask for something from the receptionist, you need to send SMS or just go directly to the reception. The receptionist is accommodating but they close at night. They were also closed on the day that we checked-out. They just mentioned on the day before to leave the keys inside.
The only major plus of The Cabin is its location. It's located near a Duty-Free Shop, Underwater World, Cenang Mall, restaurants, fruits, souvenirs, and hawker stalls. It is also a few walks from the Cenang beach. The Cabin doesn't have its own walkway to the beach so you have to walk along the road side to reach an entrance to the beach.
I will definitely try other hotels near The Cabin on the next time I go back to Langkawi.
Choose a connecting room if you travel with friends, it is good for 4 pax.
