“We found a Paradise”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed February 1, 2012

we are from Beijing, and we are the first Chinese mainland guests to Sari Villages.

We spent five days holiday at Sari villages during Chinese New Year. this quiet place kept us away from the crowd but close to the paradise. My husband and I travelled with a friend and her husband. My friend is five months pregnant and i wanted to throw her a perfect holiday before she becomes a mum. Sari villages didnt disappoint us. this is the place we definately will come back again.

- perfect villa. we stayed in a two-story villa with three bedrooms. we only occupied the two bed rooms upstairs, one of the bigger bed room with sea view. we love that room-size terrace very much, as long as we stayed at Sari village, we sipped the beer, chatted and enjoyed the change of the sky at the terrace.
- food. Sari village also has very good chefs who made delicious southeast asian cousine. after getting fed of the dishes at the restaurants, this home-made cousine is an not bad option.
- half day island hopping tour. with Zainal's guide, you wont be disappointed.
- perfect service. Farina helped us to book the car before we arrvied. Zainal and Aini gave us a lot of advice on traver plan, and the restaurant. we are going to miss you all, Zainal, Aini and Farina (though i didnt see you in person this time) and lovely Aira.

If you’re looking for a quiet, get-away in a rustic setting, with space for the whole family and wonderful hosts, then Sari is the right place for you. However, if you’re looking for luxury accommodations, dialing “O” to have everything at your fingertips, and the beach at your doorstep, this is definitely not the place to spend your holiday.

Take note: if you have children under the age of 7, any physical challenges or have a difficult time with stairs and hills, you MUST hire a car to stay at Sari. Avid hikers and loving to walk everywhere, we went thinking we would taxi to our destinations and maybe rent a car for a few days. Our hut was the lowest one on the property, so between our three children, the walk up the long, steep driveway, and the walk down the many stairs to our hut (and the reverse upon leaving the property), we quickly realized our stay would not be feasible without a car. The owners were wonderful about driving us into town to hire a car (and not saying, “I told you so”).

The positives:
Wonderful and accommodating hosts
Quiet, secluded environment
Gorgeous views from deck
Beautiful landscaping
Loads of space in the house

The downside:
Pricey. At 990 MYR/night (all in), we had lots of space, but not a lot of luxury.
Beds are rock hard.
You MUST rent a car. Do it from the airport where you can get cheaper rates than what the host quotes.
You are not on a beach. We found the best beaches in the north. Tanjung Rhu was our favorite and had the cleanest water and public beaches on the island.
No phones in the hut and Wifi only available at Wifi patio area.

What you MUST do on Langkawi:
The host will take you island hopping. A great value and totally worth it! We had a fabulous day picnicking, snorkeling, and relaxing!
The host will also offer a poolside dinner. Delicious and totally fresh, so be sure to take him up on the offer!
For the adventurous: any of Dev’s Adventure Tours, but we loved the kayaking and heard the jungle night walk is fab too.
Chill out at the Tanjung Rhu beach.

Another piece of advice if you stay: Bring your own toiletries and pool towels. You are renting a holiday home, not staying in a fully serviced resort. Our children loved it here, and it reminded my husband and I of our childhood days staying in cabins in the Cascades and Poconos, but in an exotic location.

Room Tip: Ask for one of the huts at a higher level--better views and fewer stairs to climb.

Our family of four (two kids, 3 & 6 years old) had five wonderful days here. It's a great mix of superb hospitality (will never forget the most wonderful banana panncakes at the terass in the morning) nice villas, great surroundings and plenty of things to do around the corner. A rental car is neccessary, since there are no restaurant, but a great variety is found within 5 minutes drive. Don't miss the island hopping tour with Zainol, it will give you memories for lifetime! It really feels like you are staying at friendly family, and not at a large resort! Love it!

We spent a lovely 5 day holiday at Sari Villages in November. Our family of four travelled with a friend, and the villa was perfect since there are two bedrooms upstairs and one downstairs.

We were slightly concerned about so many steps in the house with small children (1 and 3) but managed fine although you need to keep an eye on the little ones adn of course there are also a lot of steps from the carpark. The staff had baby proofed the terrace by tying rope aroung the gaps. High chairs were also provided, and generally everyhting was very child-friendly. The villa itself is convenient, ac works in the bedrooms and showers have hot water. It is very dark inside due to the tinted windows, but we spent most of our days out so were not bothered too much.

The terrace was the best part of the villa, with lovely views. I agree with the other reviewers that the breakfast was great, served on the terrace punctually with lovely fresh fruit and home-made goodies.

We did the boat excursion with Zainal and it was lovely to stop on a beach with nobody else. Life vests were available for children. Lunch on the trip was delicious. Lunch place itself was nice enough but quite busy with tour groups.

We also had dinner at Sari VIllages and enjoyed one of the best meals we had on the island, lovely spicey, home cooked food.

Great place for families and those wanting to stay somewhere quiet. I would recommend a hire car or a scooter though.

I was on business in Singapore and decided with some co-workers to visit Langkawi island. Since I was with two others, we all wanted our own bedrooms and bathrooms. There is no other place that I know of that can accommodate three bedrooms and three bathrooms in one house other than Sari Village for this price (besides the great views, this was the original reason I chose them).

The experience was fantastic. From our balcony we saw hornbills, spectacled langur monkeys & makak monkeys.

This is a family run facility that treats you like family as well. Even though some people have mentioned other tours can be arranged for a lower price, I'd recommend using Zainol (the owner) as your boating tour guide for island hopping. He is fun to talk to and his staff cook the best meals you'll eat on the island.

When you look at how much has been put into the property, the location, and the service you are provided, I really think this is a reasonably priced place.

The restaurant on the property that is not officially running can be arranged by asking for a meal there. We had an incredible bbq meal. Since the US dollar gets you a lot of ringgit in the exchange, we ate at some fancy and expensive restaurants, which were great, but none of them compared to the home cooking at Sari Village. Be sure to have them cook you dinner once.

Often other companies, restaurants etc asked us where we were staying. Whenever we said 'Sari Village' they immediately knew and said that we have the best views in town. They only rent out a few of the units at a time, so it is a very private experience.

One thing you should know is that the location on sloped terrain, which means going down several steps to get to your villa. It's not so bad, but for some with bad legs/knees this may be a problem. The staff took our suitcases up and down the stairs for us... which was a huge help. Aini also met us at the airport to greet us and we followed her back to the property.

I would recommend renting a car as it really is the best way to get around the island, and up their steep driveway.

For myself, and the two others I was with, we couldn't have asked for more. I strongly recommend this location if you are looking for privacy and a personable experience.

Just returned from 2 week stay at Sari village - beautiful villa although needs updating in areas - and very dark inside the villa even in bright weather!! Breakfasts delivered by Aini were delicious and too BIG for our family although we did try. Pool area lovely. Only downside was website displays a Spa and also a restaurant in progress (2009) though still not finished which was a big disappointment. Very spacious accomodation and not overlooked by anyone - would highly recommend as views were spectacular and wildlife from the balcony is wonderful. Island hopping trip with Zainol as an experience in itself and beautiful lunch at a private beach house.

Had a very enjoyable 5-night stay with family of 6 in this small complex of beautiful wooden 3-bedroom villas. Great views over the bay, hornbills in the trees, wonderful breakfasts, and very friendly family that owns and runs the place.
