“Disappointing experience, very pricey...”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed October 4, 2011

We were really looking forward to our trip to the Thai Restaurant at The Datai as Thai food is our favourite cuisine.

We were really disappointed with both the starter (prawn soup) and the main course (Thai red curry, lamb curry). The food is distinctly average, and I would happily pay RM100-200 for this quality of food, but to be charged over RM550 was a joke. Luckily the helpful waiter agreed and reduced the bill, but we still paid RM400 for two people including drinks!

The setting is beautiful though!

“Fantastic Food, Setting and Service”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 28, 2011

We visited this restaurant twice it was that good. We even travelled 30 mins from the Four Seasons. We had the prawn and crab cakes, chilli beef salad, duck curry and the red chicken curry - followed by sorbets and ice cream. It was a little expensive but the food was really great and we would definitely recommend it as one of our best finds in Langkawi. For two price was c400RM but it's about par for hotel prices.

“Amazing setting and food to match”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed July 8, 2011

We ate at the Pavilion while staying next door at The Andaman. From the moment we arrived the service was amazing and we were seated at a table on the edge overlooking the beautiful rain forest with two monkeys nestled in the trees.

We were offered a drink straight away on sitting down and then handed a large Thai menu and a comprehensive wine list. We ordered the soft shell crab for entree and the duck curry, oyster sauce vegetables and Pad Thai for mains...it came with complementary steamed rice. I ordered a bottle of Shaw and Smith Sav Blanc. All up with a beer to start it was about 400 MYR ($130 AUD).

We continued to enjoy watching the monkeys play in the trees and eat the large leaves while we waited a very short time for our entree. The soft shell crab was the best i have had and very generous serve.

The waiter helpfully asked whether we were ready for our mains...i was still full from the crab and asked for 10 minutes which they readily obliged. The flavor of the duck curry was amazing and if i was to fault anything it was just cut to thin. The oyster sauce and vegetables were also tasty. The Pad Thai was presented well in a net of egg. It was very tasty but not as impressive as the duck or soft shell crab.

The service throughout was first class, the view from the top of the trees in a rain forest up there with sitting in the alps and the food really nice. We then enjoyed a stroll along the beach in very warm water in the dark back to the hotel. I would recommend this experience to anyone staying in the area.

“You have to try this place at least once”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 2, 2011

This place is incredible. The food is exquisite and the service second to none. My wife had a curry but doesn't like hot foods (?!) - anyways they made a mild one (i.e. one chilli) which was still pretty hot. After telling the waiter and asking for some yoghurt he wasted no time in taking the dish away and requesting the chef to prepare a whole new dish in no time. The chef then came out to apologise and check if everything was OK. The setting of the restaurant is lovely - in the treetops of the jungle and the atmosphere is perfect for a romantic meal for two.

“Thai Food heaven at the Datai”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed April 22, 2011

We were staying at the Andaman hotel next door and chose to eat at the Pavillion on a recommendation from a friend. We didn't regret it.

Delicious food (HUGE choice on the menu - you'll need to know/brush up on your Thai Food), great setting amongst the rainforest canopy. A little expensive, but it is at the Datai, so you'd expect that...

Definitely worth a try if you are in the area
