“consistently fresh and tasty”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 28, 2013

We have eaten here probably a hundred times and have never had anything other than a delicious meal. (We are not sushi eaters, so can vouch only for the cooked food.) Their shrimp is the best I have ever tasted, as is their miso soup. Service is flawless and charming. We always feel welcome here.

“Average Sushi Place”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed May 15, 2013

Real japanese staff, small cute little place in traditional Japanese decor with sushi bar and tables, nothing unique however.

“Quality Japanese food!!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed December 11, 2012

Some of my favorite dishes are here. Their Shrimp Shumai is better than anywhere else - just slides down your throat. Bento Box is a great value. Sahimi is alway good as well. Great local place!!

Really good place for a reasonably priced lunch or dinner, Japanese family style. Owners are very nice and attentive. Fresh ingredients.

“The real cuisine!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 22, 2011

If you love authentic Japanese cuisine, you'll love Nishi. Nishi is a small family-owned and operated restaurant where most guests are greeted by name. No wonder, its patrons are almost all repeat customers for a good reason. The fact that the majority of patrons are Japanese speaks for the authenticity, quality and preparation of the great variety of dishes. The chef and owner, Mr. Masakazu Nishiyama, and his wife Hiromi make sure that you feel as welcome as you would coming home! The positive energy translates into dishes prepared and served with love, to use an old phrase.

While there is not a single dish I would not recommend, there are some specials I have to mention (bear in mind that I'm not Japanese, so my choices are not representative of Japanese taste): the lunch special every Thursday is the Katsu Curry, a dish of deep fried pork cutlets in a mouthwatering, thick sauce served over a bed of rice. This dish is so popular and well-known that Thursday lunch hour is usually the busiest of the week. For dinner, the Deluxe Sashimi Combination is more than worth its price. Fresh, varied and skillfully presented it is worth the visit at any time. Another of my favorites is Zidori, small pieces of grilled organic chicken in a lemon-butter sauce, slightly salted. I have tried Zidori in many places but haven't found one quite like Nishi's. Finally, there is the potato salad: as this delicious, almost decadent potato salad is not prepared as a regular menu item it is not listed on the menu. It is well worth asking if there is when visiting as this side-dish is truly delicious.

We have been visiting Nishi at least twice a week now for several years and taken visitors and guests there many times. Bottom line: great food, prepared just right and always, always served with a smile!
