“Short trip ok”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed November 15, 2013

The staff was friendly and always give us a smile..The great hospitality during 3 Days 2 Nights there and we are enjoyed our time relaxing and swimming with doubleIS...the room is tidy and clean but i don't like the kettle given. Some blogger said the sound from lounge disturbing but for us i didn't hear any music at all due to our room in high floor, Level 11. The washroom at lobby situated in the mall which is we have to pass thru the hotel door inside the mall.

When you want to go out from The Zon you must go thru the Custom checkpoint but the custom officer just smile. We thought maybe the Zon Mall was closed for renovation from 1st July 2013 so that nothing much to worry.

Previously known as the ZON Regency Hotel, is a good hotel for people who visit southern part of Malaysia, Johor on business or work. The hotel rooms are clean and Berjaya is doing maintenance to make the conditions better. The hotel has a good breakfast buffet. Adjacent to the hotel is shopping mall with various duty free shops. This hotel is a bit far from Johor city center but next to the ferry terminal. Wifi available in the rooms.

Stayed 2 nights at this hotel and the hotel is located at the Free Tax Zone in Johor Bahru. This hotel was previously called The Zon Johor Bahru. There are alot of entertainment outlets, restaurants and a shopping mall within the perimeter of the compound. Generally, it is a one-stop place for entertainment, shopping and dining. There is also a pier for ferry services to an Indonesian island called Batam there. Generally, the hotel is classy and the room is spacious and clean. The only setback of this hotel is that the lounge is at the open area at the mezzanine floor of the hotel and you can hear the singers singing while you are resting inside your room. The performance stopped only after 9-10 pm. The amenities available in the hotel would include a business center, gymnasium, health spa, restaurants, lounge and a swimming pool. Amenities available in the room would include free wifi services, television with various local and international channels, safe deposit box, wardrobe and toiletries. The breakfast buffet spread is good with both local and western food choices. Since the hotel is located within the Free Tax Zone, alcohol are sold pretty cheap in the bars and lounge which are available in the shopping mall or the building adjacent to the hotel building. Food is never a hassle when you are staying in this hotel. Apart from the restaurants in the hotel, you can also find fast food restaurants or western restaurants in the shopping complex which is joint to the hotel building. A short walk away from this Free Tax Zone, you will find a lot of local seafood or local food restaurants. The hotel carpark is quite rundown and the hotel management would need to have their maintenance in place. The hotel is located about 10 minutes away from Johor Bahru downtown and there is no hassle to get to other places from this hotel as you can find a cab easily the lobby areas. The hotel staffs are generally helpful and friendly. However, the process of checking in was slow and you could find long queues at the checking in counter during the peak time. Overall, this hotel is a good stay.

The hotel is clean and cosy and amenities is convenience. However, don't expect too much on the breakfast. Food is available around the hotel so overall the hotel is very good for the star rating. For Singaporean who drive and worried about getting around or safety, you can park you can at the hotel and hire cab to bring you around especially to JB Central.

i went there last few days for our family trip to singapore.. but overall bout this hotel is i cn say its good for a 3 star hotel..
-bfast was bad.. not too many varieties on food.. they didn't even refill back all the finished food.. some of the staf act like they don't hav a job.. just mingling around themselves.. i even hav to wait for them to finish talk to ask for an omelette.. n to top it off they claim that omelette is not available due to not enough item?!!!
-bad room service.. ask for a pair of cutleries.. they just transfer my call to the coffee house.. in the end, i still did'nt get my spoons!!
-bellservice no common sense.. we hav to carry our own luggage to the taxi.. eventhough its clearly dat our luggage is heavy, they dont help us at all.. instead they just chit chating at the counter
-front desk too many trainees.. they don't even know all the information bout the hotel.. everyone looks kinda blur..
in conclusion if i ever want to spend holiday in johor bahru, i would never stay at this hotel again..!!

-room is clean and tidy, hotel price is relatively cheap and reasonable
-breakfast is poor, hardly can chew the palm size pancake, staff were smiley and guy at omelette station was friendly
-wifi is NEVER working
-check in on late evening, and when i ask for late check out(was planning to check out at 2PM),they insist at 1 PM.as we been at the hotel 4 times, there's no specialty for returning guest.being inform that the hotel is not busy as the occ is only about 50% on that day, maybe you should brief your trainee staff on how to check ETA on your opera and go the extra mile with the service,no?
-at one point when my keycard is not working at the lobby lift,i went to validate the keycard. The reception didnt even verify my identity. So surprise with with this BERJAYA standard of hotel operation
-ask the reception about Bcard points collection, and she is totally clueless.
-the staff english is bad,had difficulty ordering room service, especially the trainee at the bar at level 5

Room Tip: higher floor ,sea view

For a Berjaya hotel this is a bit tired and the staff do not speak good English but it's $50 a night and is in a great spot. There is usually a live local band singing the usual hotelpop and as the rooms surround a large atrium even on my top floor room I could hear the band - just, but they finish at about 11:30 so way before I came back in. My room was on 16th floor and looked straight across the few hundred yards of the straights of Johor to Singapore, you could swim across but although there is a ferry station just outside the hotel it only goes to Indonesia, to get across to Singapore you still have to go over the bridge! The hotel itself has a spa and a good couple of restaurants but right next door is the Zon Mall and a host of bars and nightclubs. A short walk takes you to more traditional outdoor hawkers food places and a short taxi ride takes you to the CBD.
TIP IF COMING DOWN FOR A WEEKEND FROM MALAYSIA. I usually fly down but had a load of hassle last time so came ion a luxury coach, Everything in Malaysia is the same price as in Singapore- except in Ringits and not dollars. So a taxi across from this hotel in Malaysia to Bishan in Singapore is MYR80 - £15 - same trip back is S$80 - £42!! Same with coach fare, MYR30 down S$30 back, so if you know you are returning, book a return from KL and pay in Ringit.

Room Tip: Go as high as possible to avoid noise from the bar area.
