Our group checked in for 2 nights in January 2013 and things started off poorly with a check-in that took close to 30 minutes for our 10 rooms (after which, only 7 rooms were ready and 3 needed some house-keeping). While I do understand that 10 rooms is about a third of their total number of rooms, I would have expected that the hotel be prepared in advance, especially if they know that they would be unable to cope with a 10-room check-in.
2 internet stations were provided in the lobby but 1 was not connected to the internet. There was a fused bulb in the reception male washroom that left half the washroom in darkness.
While walking up to the rooms I could detect the lingering smell of cigarette smoke. In fact, the smell permeates the entire first and second floor and it was only after the first night that things improved. Not impressive for a hotel that claims to be "smoke-free".
The good - a 5-star rain shower and very good beds for this category of hotel. Most of my group commented that they loved the showers and beds (which really made up for the poor first impression).
There is a mini-market beside the hotel where you can get your essentials. What is not mentioned is that there's a karaoke joint at the other end of the block where the hotel is located and although the singing does not reach the hotel, the public car park in front of the block fills up very, very quickly so be prepare to park further away if you are back late.
The rooms are a one-box affair, with the shower and WC using glass dividers. Couple this with the fact that some rooms do not have windows and a poor lighting setup, you either sleep in TOTAL darkness OR in a room that is bright enough to prevent you from sleeping well. I feel that a night light should be given for all rooms. I usually sleep with either the wardrobe or bath light swtiched on but there isn't an enclosed wardrobe provided and too much bathroom light comes through the glass.
But the shower and mattress makes up for it.....
TIP: There is a restaurant behind the hotel, facing the main road, called Toast & Toast and their food is pretty good and reasonably priced. We ate there twice.
