“Mulanje - Beautiful and affordable experience”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 12, 2014

Mount Mulanje remains one of my favorite trips to this day. The "island in the sky" is simply breathtaking and as you climb up through forest, grassy plains, and rock face you truly feel like you're exploring a new world. You don't have to deal with the cost and crowds of Kilimanjaro and the views are mesmerizing. Getting all the way to the top can be a challenge depending on the weather but even if you don't make it all the way, it's well worth the small amount of money it costs.

Awesome trip.

“We love it!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed March 27, 2014

We spent 3 days there. The first day we climbed to the nearest Chambe pool which is quite cool and easy to climb, just 1.5 hours climbing.

The second day and third day we climbed to Lichenya and stayed in the hut. The Lichenya hut was perfect in every aspect, the only regret is that we had to leave early in the second morning. Our 7yo child hiked with us, and our shoes were all soaked with the sudden rain coming from nowhere, but we really enjoyed it.

“Hiking to the peak”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 7, 2013

Two nights in the huts and three days hiking - awesome! You can hire a guide very cheaply and also a "sherpa", carrier, to carry your stuff. Up there there is a plato and the scenery is like from Ireland. Very beautiful! It really is worth climbing. If the weather is clear, you can see to the Indian Ocean from the top! It didn't happen to me, though... :) But still it was awesome to reach the 3003m high top. After descending it was heavenly to swim in the pools close to the gate of the Forest Reserve area.

“Mount Mulange is a Must-see!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 31, 2013

When in Malawi, if you are able to do one of the many hikes available on Mount Mulanje, you should! The area is lush and green, the views are fantastic, and the mountain offers a range of hikes, from easy and family-friendly to strenuous and encompassing a few days. I did a relatively easy hike with a range of ages and local friends. Tip: The tour guides offered at the tourism office can be on the pricey side. So, negotiate and don't give in to fear and all the rumours they'll try to persuade you with as to why you'll need a tour guide (if you want a tour guide or want to support tour guides, that is--bear in mind that this is an economy that needs your business).
