I came for the first time to Royal Sakalava in august 2012, at the end of a trip of a whole month discovering Madagascar. I had reserved only for about ten days, but the place had so much pleased me that I had convinced myself to return there in 2013. I had thus planned to stay there this summer for two weeks before flying away for Serengeti and Kilimanjaro. Having many a time postponed my plane tickets for Kenya and Tanzania - to cancel them after all! - I have finally just passed here 2 months!
Besides the magnificent lagoon, the kitesurfing and windsurfing conditions are, from May till September, unique; the best in the world, flat, wave, reef in the same place. Sceptics? Look at the photos of the spot, verify the statistics of wind... THE spot you must not miss in rider life.
Everything in Royal Sakalava will tempt you to extend your stay and to return there. Lucas and Nadia, the owners, as well as the staff (adorable!) are totally dedicated to make the hotel the most pleasant place it can be. About fifteen bungalow, simple and spacious, contain electricity and hot water. They all have a terrace. Here no noise of the generator because the power is fed 24/24 with solar energy. WIFI is available on the terrace of the restaurant. A turtle park and and outdoor games have been set for the children, as well as one trampoline which meets a big hit. The hotel proposes even the services of a nanny for families with infant or very young child. The beginners can take advantage of ideal conditions (wind side-on, immense bay, wide beach to launch and land, water up to waist) to learn about kitesurf thanks to the IKO club held by Alex. You also have the possibility to rent equipment (Cabrinha) which is renewed every year. You can also leave on foot the hotel for the famous three bays walk, either practise canoe, or snorkeling.... Masseuses are waiting for you on the beach from dawn till dusk to provide you unexpensive and pain reliever cares for your sore muscles!
Food is absolutely excellent, dishes are varied, and the residents of surrounding cities do not hesitate to make some kilometers to taste spiny lobsters there so as the famous “paves of zebu Chateaubriand".
Besides, the resort is situated at the end of a magnificent 4km track of which crosses sand dunes and on which we meet goats, zebus and baobabs! Early in the morning or at nightfall a group of lemurs goes down the trees and does not hesitate to jump on your shoulder to taste fruits that you hand give to them.
I have met many tourists during my long stay. Most have already planned to return and I have myself reserved the next year for the all month of August. Never 2 without 3!
