“Go for the history first and food second”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed August 28, 2012

This place is an institution in Byblos and Lebanon in general. You can see all of the visitors that have paid tribute to Pepe's in photographs that cover many of the walls. The food is good, but there is better value elsewhere in Byblos and Lebanon in general. If it is your first visit to Byblos you definitely have to eat at one of the portside restaurants, and Pepe's is a good choice. For the second trip and beyond, you can get a bit more creative.

“I enjoyed it”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed August 2, 2012 via mobile

Despite the pretty lousy reviews, we had a super meal here. Very good mezze and then fried red mullets which were excellent. It was much cheaper than other restaurants which were definitely over rated. The service was very friendly and Pepe's son came over for a chat. The setting is idyllic and we really enjoyed it

“Overrated”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed April 30, 2012

Historical restaurant overlooking Byblos port. Food is fresh, however compared to the lebanese hospitality in other restaurants, it's clearly below average. The waiters were were even rude.

“too expensive”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed April 26, 2012

it's a nice place for the first impression. I took drinks and coffee and paid double prices whe you expect them to be at the same level of the place. Its too casual.
the bathrooms are horrible to see, the service is too bad

“Charming seaside restaurant with a long history”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed April 25, 2012

This quaint little restaurant in the seaside town of Byblos in Lebanon is astonishingly well known to well known celebrities in the world since the past four decades. From the Czech President Vaclav Havel to film stars, journalists etc all have visited this place and their photos are hanging on the wall outside the restaurant. Regrettably we went in February when the weather was cold and outdoor sitting was not possible. However, the lunch was excellent with deep fried fish in Lebanese style (who watches cholesterol on holidays anyway!) preceded by Lebanese bread warm and fresh from the oven with labneh and other accoutrements. The place inside was busy cheerful and overall a wonderful experience. Our only regret was that we could eat there only once.
