“Really nice weekend”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed June 3, 2014 via mobile

This place is very nice. From the arrival, the staff was very friendly and we felt really welcomed. We decided to upgrade to a suite S3 which was really worth the additional money. The room and the separate lounge are extensive and the direct access to the restaurant, swimming pool and beach is really good when you have a little kid with you. The restaurant staff is very nice too. As the restaurant was opening a bit late for our son at lunch and dinner, they always proposed to prepare his meal in advance ... All in all, it has been a really nice and very relaxing weekend.

The hotel was a pleasant surprise. Access to the beach for a walk was a plus for us. The wireless wifi in some areas was also welcome. The rooms were very spacious and clean - with numerous towel changes. The staff were hospitable, accomodating and professional. The only thing was a request for increase or more variety in the breakfast menu that incorporates the local cusine. I would have loved to get more healthy options - like brown bread - but overall a good value for money. Could they think about marketing themselves to the local community (East Africans) I checked out of the hotel with a sense of a lost opportunity for the front office to ask me to spread the word to my networks ....

Room Tip: The rooms opposite/near the reception does get to be slightly noisy when guests are checking in/chec...

Amazing experience, so beautiful and so welcoming. The hotel was so relaxing and nothing was to much trouble for anyone. The staff were attentive without being over powering. The rooms were clean and there was a lot of space. We meet some lovely people whilst we were at the hotel which added to the holiday being enjoyable. The spa was worth the money and very relaxing. We enjoyed our meals but it was nice to have the odd meal in the hotel next door. We were there over Easter and staff really pushed the boat out with BBQ and tables all dressed lovely around the pool, music playing and dancing.

We also had the meal on the beach, this was truely an experience and worth paying the little bit extra for. They made arches out of the palm trees and waitered on you all evening bring course after course, to be honest we could not eat everything. All in all what a holiday and what amazing staff.

A hotel with a difference.
The ambiance is great, staff extremely helpful even with stuff about Malindi. Just to mention a few –, Rachel – Reception, David – Room Steward, Moses at the bar always had a welcoming smile. Raphael (He is special the guy is fluent in German, Italian just to mention a few). He has a very warm heart, Newton & Lucas at the Restaurant and the trainee who always had options Gladys.
The Hotel has a variety of cocktails as well as food.
The rooms are great though no channels for the young ones e.g. Cartoon channel.
Two Negatives.
The Lotion supplied in the rooms have an expiry date of May 2014 :-( I think it’s not healthy to supply stuff after it has expired.
Also my room had a huge dead cockroach on the floor next to the curtain and every day I checked it was still there. Irrespective of how many days one is staying maybe a proper cleaning of the room would be nice

Excellent hotel. Very minimal in terms of facilities however that suited us fine.

Rooms were awesome and extremely spacious. No fault with the rooms at all.

The staff were very very good with one exception (see below). We are vegetarian and the waiters all took great care in ensuring that we were always well fed. The Reservations Manager, Dixon, in particular was rude to us (this comment has also been mentioned by someone else before). We were not told about charges for all our kids when we checked in however just before we checked out, we were told that the 2nd and 3rd children would be charged for. When we explained the situation to the Reservations Manager Dixon, he was quite rude about the situation and unhelpful. This is a real shame as the rest of the staff were so so friendly.

Dixon also gave us a final invoice which included the travel agent's commission. I am sure if our travel agent found out about this he would not be too happy.

The hotel should look to invest in some fans in the public areas as it was very hot especially in the dining hall.

Thanks!

We are on our last but one day here at DOA, having read all the reviews before we came I can only agree with all the positives.

The staff are this hotels best asset - every single one has been helpful and nothing is too much.

The food is excellent, if you are expecting a twelve page menu then think again, there is enough choice and it is plentiful - contrary to some of the older poor reviews.

The rooms are well equipped and there are little extras all the time, sorbets in the morning by the pool, fruit cocktails in the afternoon. The rooms are well laid out and there is even a little packet of washing powder in the bathroom along with all the usual soap and shampoo. The beds are VERY firm and very large!

The gardens are immaculate and one morning we were treated to fresh coconuts and I mean fresh, we watched then being chopped out of the tree!

There is one downside which is out of the hotels control it's the beach boys. We love walking and you end up with an entourage of 6 or more. They are very polite and indeed try and please showing you starfish and other creatures. But I just want to go for a walk on the beach!

I would highly recommend this hotel and it's staff.

Room Tip: We had a ground floor room, looking onto the gardens.

What a fantastic place! My wife and I spent a week here after a week's safari and got just what we were after - rest and relaxation, great food, fantastic service and comfortable surroundings. The amanities can't be beaten. Rooms are great - all suites with two day beds in the spacious foyer area where one can lay and cool off out of the sun with a drink. Patio doors open into the cool air-conditioned room itself with a sofa bed and chair, large sideboard housing the minibar on which stands the TV, a further sidebopard come chest of drawers for clothing, a beautiful four-poster style bed with mosquito nets surrounding it and a massive wardrobe. Beyond this is the bathroom with a jacuzzi bath, his and hers washbasins, a seperate shower cubicle, and an enclosed toilet.
it is the people at the hotel who make the difference however. The staff at reception when we arrived were great - recognising that we were tired after a long journey (13 hours by plane and car from the Maasai Mara) they minimised the check-in formalities so that we could get to dinner and then to bed. The hotel is set on the beach, with a private strip seperated from the public area by a wall and guarded day and night to keep the beach traders out. There are plenty of sunbeds, and you can have your choice. The pool is of irregular shape but very inviting. It too is surrounded by sunbeds and shaded seating areas where one can relax with a drink. During the day staff bring round complimentary fruit and sorbets to keep you refreshed, as well as supplying drinks from the pool bar on demand. Nothing is too much trouble for the two lads who look after the pool. They will position your sunbed for you, lay out your towels every morning before you get down, re-position the beds and umbrella as the sun moves or your mood changes, all with a huge smile and a sunny disposition. In the bars and restaurant the waiting staff are similarly friendly and obliging. The food is well cooked with a good choice and service is prompt and efficient - again nothing is too much trouble. It was my birthday on the day we arrived and unbeknown to me the man who looked after our bedroom had made a greeting on the bed from palnts and flowers. Our late arrival meant he had to dismantle it to fold down the beds and prepare the mozzie nets before we had seen it so he went to the trouble of repeating the laborious task the following day - I was so impressed. He kept the room spotless and well supplied and made sure we were happy with everything in there.
This is a fabulous hotel for adults wanting to get away from iy all and relax. The adjoining hotle - a much larger establishment - offers a range of activities and water sports which one can partake of, and caters for children. There is a shared spa where treatments are very reasonable and a small gym.
Sadly while we were there the hotel was not very busy. At one stage there were less than 15 guests from a capacity of 70 - it seems the fear of terrorism and piracy may be putting people off. The upshot is that the staff are concerned for their jobs and in Africa that is a major worry. So I implore you to go there and enjoy this absolute diamond of a place
