This posting is in response to the one below. We don't want people to be misled. This hotel and its sister, Coconut Village, have been closed for the best part of a year.
We recently stayed for three weeks at the excellent Dream of Africa (owned by PlanHotel, who used to operate Malindi Beach Hotel), arriving home on Friday 14th March 2014. The writer of the post below stayed for a week at the same hotel as us and ate at the next table to us. Unfortunately he has confused the two hotels as they both have the prefix brand name 'Diamonds'. All other aspects of the post are correct except that he has also confused the name of the sister hotel which he calls Palms, but which is actually Tropical Village - I am not aware of any hotel on this coast that is just called Palms. Also just to reassure people that you do not need a guide to go into Malindi town. The town is not that big but is an interesting place to visit. You can get a tuk tuk into town for 200 shillings and explore and shop without any hassle.
If like us you have stayed at Diamonds Malindi Beach in the past and were hoping to do so again on the basis of this post you will be disappointed. However, we did hear that another hotel owner in Malindi is negotiating to rent what was Malindi Beach Hotel and Coconut Village Hotel and reopen them in some format next season.
