“Faultless”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 18, 2013

Have just spent 3 days here and everything was more than excellent and exceeded my expectations . The hotel is spotlessly clean which is immediately apparent when you enter the large reception area. There is a cake shop bar and a cafe with very nice seating in a lovely atrium style lobby with the open style lifts providing views of the lobby area as they ascend. In the lobby area there is a bar and while it is quite expensive again the staff are lovely and everything is gleaming and clean.

Staff are friendly efficient and very helpful, it was also nice to see that all staff are immaculately presented and very smart. The staff seem to take pride in making sure that there individual uniforms are worn to best effect, very impressed.

They genuinely seem pleased to see you and really go out of there way to make you feel welcome. I have to be honest I was expecting it to be similar to my not so good experience in Moscow, but how wrong I was...

The room was large with lots of in room freebies and again everything was spotlessly clean bathroom was average size with a bath and a combined shower which had a fairly high step into the tub. Not a problem but merely an observation. There is also a huge selection of tv channels with a few in English. Iron and ironing board also provided. Air conditioning is quiet and efficient.

What was also nice was being able to open the window in the room for fresh air. Wi fi was good but required repeat signing in but again not really a problem.

The bed was very comfortable and the quality of the bed cottons seemed obvious to the touch. I slept extremely well without being woken by the sound of doors banging which is the norm in many other countries.

Almaty for me was a very pleasant surprise, the people are friendly and although difficulties with the language people were willing to help and always with a smile. Food was excellent although they seem to consume a lot of horse meat (a bit like uk supermarkets). Going out in the city felt very safe and everywhere is virtually litter free, sitting in Panlov Park watching the world go by was like stepping back in time, fascinating.

The spa in the Hotel is beautiful with a Turkish bath, Sauna, Massage and indoor pool, although I felt that the massage was expensive, gym facilities were more than adequate and once again everything was spotless.

On one of the evenings I had room service which was delivered extremely quickly and the quality of the food was superb as was the presentation, none of those wooden tray affairs but a proper table wheeled into the room and properly laid up. The food was excellent.

I really enjoyed my stay here and will hopefully be able to return again soon, oh and special mention has to go to the lovely girl Alami on the concierge desk who was simply superb and smoothed out a few travel issues for me ensuring I was getting proper prices etc. a real asset to the hotel.

I am unable to comment on value as this was a company booking however I would assume that this hotel would be in the upper price bracket. I am very fortunate to travel the world with my work and have always rated India as the best when it comes to service, having Now experienced Kazakhstan and the city of Almaty India has competition !

Room Tip: My room looked out over the tennis courts and the Mountains

If you are on a business trip to Almaty, it is the best hotel to stay for sure...The location, the atrium lobby, executive floor rooms, the quality of service, the hospitality of the staff would be the main reasons to choose this hotel...Easy to arrange your meetings in the lobby or at Club lounge... Main Restaurant was perfect, but also try kebabs at Bosphorus Restaurant...Thanks to all team for their international service...

Room Tip: Executive floor rooms are recommended...

From the moment you arrive and the vehicle you are in is stopped and the underneath is checked with a mirror to the metal detector and security guard at the entrance you realise this hotel takes the security and safety of its guest very seriously.
Whilst the decor inside is slightly dated the hotel is kept spotlessly clean and in good order. There is an impressive full height atrium where drinks and snacks can be ordered.
Check in is reasonably fast and efficient.
The rooms are spacious, clean and well appointed. Free WiFi is available or faster internet access via cable for a fee. Tea & coffee making facilities plus mini fridge are included. The bathroom is a reasonable size with all the amenities you would expect in a good hotel anywhere in the world.
Breakfast to suit all tastes from Sushi to bacon and eggs is offered in the dining room. Everything is to an extremely high standard and you can help yourself to whatever you want. Cooked items are made to order.
Many flights out of Almaty are in the middle of the night and the hotel thoughtfully provides good coffee, croissant and cakes for departing guests.
All in all a professionally well run hotel

This property is first class. Included in the room rate is an excellent breakfast with many different options including various cheeses, meats, breads, soups and chief prepared omelet. Nothing is perfect and so goes the coffee both in the restaurant and in room, suggest tea instead. My room was very quite and service was prompt. Not sure if every room is as quite after hearing a guest wanting to change rooms due to noise. While meals and drinks in the hotel are good they are very expensive. A short walk and you will have several good and affordable options.

I am a frequent traveler to Almaty and have stayed many times in Intercontinental. This hotel is (together with Rixos) probably the best deal for business travelers in the city.

Rooms are not too large, but are of decent size, very comfortable and very clean. Wi-Fi is of reasonable speed, adequate for work. The working desks are large, well organized with plenty of electrical sockets. The rooms have plenty of wardrobe space.

Hotel is a five star facility in every sense, except for the health club – the equipment is dated and the pool is very small. This is one area where Rixos is much stronger; if you are a gym/pool buff, Rixos would be a better choice.

Lobby Bar is a very good deal for eating, also with very good Wi-Fi. It is a comfortable area to rest and relax with a good choice of food, and friendly staff. The area is not as grand as in Rixos, but that also has certain advantages.

Breakfast is very good and with a lot of variety food and good service. Do visit the Turkish restaurant Ankara on the second floor – excellent Turkish food and selection of Turkish wines. The hotel has superb conference facilities – my organization (UN) always contracts this hotel for all the conferences we have in town.

Staff and services are top notch – definitely the best services in Almaty.

The hotel is in a good central location, very close to a very nice park where you can walk and enjoy fresh air, which is unusual for Almaty.

Stayed here four times in the last couple of months. This is without doubt the best hotel in Almaty and probably Kazakhstan as a whole. The check in was smooth. The lobby is large and slightly old fashioned atrium style. Thankfully not very noisy at night.

The rooms are nice (some are larger than the others) and reasonably large, neat and clean and have most amenities you would expect of an intercon. The bathroom is reasonably big - the tub is also the shower and has a glass sliding door making it uninviting to have a bath. The TV channel selection has one or two english entertainment channels other than the news which is a nice welcome. Its ok to smoke on some floors so ask ahead if you dont like smoke.

There are two main restaurants. The asian cafe is a breakfast and lunch place and sometimes if open for dinner for large parties etc. The other restaurant is in two parts in the summer garden - one is a grill and the other a mix dinner of sorts with live music in the evenings. The food is ok and expensive by Kazak standards. Dont expect too many vegetarian options but they try. The breakfast is a very large spread and nice. Having stayed here for a number of times totaling to over 10-12 days they could do with some variety. The veggy stuff on the menu is limited but are nice. The bar /coffee shop is ok and expensive

The gym is large and well equiped. The four times I have stayed in this hotel the elliptical / cros training machine has been under maintenance. The wet area is neat and clean. There is an indoor pool and sauna and hamam which is common for men and women. Dint really try either of them but could see people enjoy themselves.

The hotel concierge is the best part of the hotel. Very helpful people making language issues manageable. The car service is on a average 2.5 times more expensive than local cabs and the drivers dont really speak english so you are better of getting your origin and desitination written down in russian by the concierge and taking a local taxi.

I do however got a feeling that repeat / long staying guests are not really treated as nicely as they would be in other hotels. May have to do with the indifferent attitude of some of the reception people or just that the hotel gets many long staying / repeat guests and therefore cant manage a different treatment.

Overall best place to stay in kazakhstan.

Hotel was very clean, Staff quite friendly, it had decent internet connection speed for Almaty. Breakfasts were very nice. Rooms quite large. I would recommend it for business stays in Almaty. Not the cheapest choice, but the safe one :)

Room Tip: don't take the ones in front of elevator :)
