“My Recent stay at fabulous Hotel Ritz Carlton in Almaty”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed February 7, 2014

I recently stayed at Hotel Ritz Carlton at Almaty. An excellent Hospitality option in Almaty
The Staff and services were impeccable. Hotel is well located and offers one of the best luxurious options for stay. Excellent Food.
The only drawback is that the Hotel is non-smoking

Going to Almaty once or twice a year or so on business over the past 5 years, I have got to see the best and the worst of this crazy city.

I would say that previously there has always been a little problem with 5 star hotels in this place. Some are very acceptable but would never get away with being 5 star in any other major world city.

I am glad to say that the Ritz in Almaty far exceeded my expectation of what to expect from a 5 star hotel over here. For a start, the main reception area and interior decor is extremely splendid in appearance, with utterly amazing views over the city and mountains. They have a sky bar up their which reminds me a lot of the sky bar in Hilton Park Lane, fantastic views again, and cocktails very good - word of warning about this - if you are a stranger to Almaty hotels, then you may not know that the cost of drinks is very expensive largely due to import charges etc, of course the Ritz was no exception in this regard, but certainly one of, if not the coolest bar in town, so a good place to spend your money :)

We chose a room in the club lounge area of hotel, this allowed us to use the club lounge facilities at no extra cost. Firstly, the room was very nice, no expense spared, with remote control for most things including lights and curtains etc. Very nice mattress and bedding, and extremely plush modern finish that all the best hotels have.

The club lounge itself was AWESOME!! and quite frankly in my opinion the best thing in hotel. At any point we could go in for food and drinks and sit and admire the views. All food was very nice, with the evening Sushi being some of the tastiest i have had of late. Breakfast as well allowed us to have freshly made omelettes as well as many other choices. There is know way I would go back to this hotel without choosing the club lounge option, and in my opinion, for the little extra you pay for the room this really is as us English like to say - "a no brainer..."

I agree with some of the other reviews that there are a couple of small teething problems, but really, compared to any other hotel in town, these are so minor that you would be foolish to let it ruin your opinion or over all stay. And with prices for this hotel currently not much more than most of the others, it is in a completely different league than them for very little more money.

Now to the most important point - the staff!!!!

This is what makes a person come back or stay away for good in any hotel.

I am very happy to say, that the staff in this hotel were EXCEPTIONALLY polite and friendly! Very good customer service indeed. Everyone from the boys on the doors, to room attendants, and even the house front manager (who i had occasion to meet) were all extremely helpful and offered service to compete with the very best hotels in the world. One morning stood out as an example of this in club lounge, I believe it was a couple of senior managers taking tea on a table near us, one of them personally put aside his business to come and offer us cutlery when he could see me looking for some. This is a hotel and management team that in my opinion really do their very best to make your stay as good as possible.

An over all great stay with very warm and friendly staff, if you want the best in Almaty, then this is it, and finally a hotel that such a strong city can be proud of.

Special shout to the girls in club lounge - you are doing exceptional job - keep it up please!! :)

Room Tip: Go for club lounge room. Offers great service and value for money.

The hotel is brand new and overall it makes a very good impression. Service staff are all making an extra effort and the rooms are excellent. Great selection of homemade chocolates, nuts and dried fruits made for an extra warm welcome. Certainly among the very top of business hotels in Almaty.

I understand that the hotel has been for less than a year in operation but the staff needs a lot of training. It started with the check-in when there was a problem with my rate and my colleagues who were attending the same conference. The solution was to charge everyone a higher rate!!! The housekeeping was not done till late in the afternoon. The TV works for 10 minutes and then it stops. I informed the management and they told me it is because of the Internet provider!!!! It is true, the internet was not working well so I had to log-in so many times to my e-mail within each hour.
Finally, I order a drop off to the airport. I got a Mercedes car which clearly has not been cleaned from inside in the last month. The driver was a young guy who thought he was driving in a race and turned the music so load I had to tell him to turned down. When we got to the airport, he gave a look and told me “now you can get out”.
WOW… What a customer service. Definitely way below the Ritz-Carlton standard. I hope the company will look into this property and decide if it wants to keep the name associated with this hotel.

Room Tip: I would avoid this hotel all together.

From the moment I got off the airplane, the Ritz Carlton service has done nothing short of amaze and spoil me. Arriving in -9 degree celsius weather, the employees greetings make you feel comfortable and cozy, going out of their way to ensure you have everything you need. The rooms are very spacious, with all the amenities and trimmings a new hotel could have, from the extra large bath tub, to the mountain views, the to the heated bathroom floor (trust me, this is an amazing comfort feature you wouldn't have expected). The Sixth Senses Spa lives up to it's reputation with its great staff and fantastic treatments. There is a pool (with great views), sauna, steam room and traditional hammam for your use also. The gym has all new equipment and is set up for any sort of training you're into, whether it's weights, crossfit, calisthenics, yoga - it has it all. There is a shopping mall right next door with cinemas and food courts, in case you wanted to eat out - but the restaurants here serve brilliant food by international chefs. The Vista Chef, Faras, also went out of his way to ensure his food was exactly to our liking. The ski resort, Shimbulak, is about 30mins drive away, and is a breeze to get too. Definitely worth visiting.
I have no complaints about this hotel, the entire trip was well beyond my expectations. If you want to see the city, I also recommend taking a tour with Karla Makatova. She is a local and can take you anywhere you want - from canyons, to the city, to kayaking, to skiing, and her historical recount is spot on.

Room Tip: Mountain View rooms!

Without sounding too much like Rick in 'Casablanca', I have lived in every gin joint in this splendidly appointed city and found the lot of them to be well below standard. Rubber pillows, leaking baths, ragtag carpets, the works.......one should also take into account that, before moving in, I had lived in a flat formerly reserved for some of the nastier members of a bizarre Puritan sect so anything would have to be considered an improvement. Having said this, the Ritz Carlton is nice. Very, very comfortable with well designed rooms, enchanting staff and breathtaking views. I will definitely come again.
