“Great location and service”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed April 18, 2013

Adjacent and connected to Sendai train station, this is a very convenient location for business or pleasure in Sendai. Rooms are standard Japanese style (read : small) but with all you would require. Prices are reasonable too. Only cable LAN, no wifi in most rooms, as in the case in many Japanese hotels. Carry a pocket router if you want to use wifi on your iPad, phone, etc. Very handy in Japan. Free wifi in the lobby area. Breakfast spread is fairly extensive and has both western and Japanese selections. Nothing to complain about, other than hard pillows, which I was am sure I could have gotten changed, but was just too lazy.

For us, Sendai was a rest stop for our Sapporo to Fukuoka JR train trip. We needed a hotel that was close to the Shinkansen and clean and reasonably priced. this hotel fits the bill. to me, this hotel is just good for sleep and shower. Its nice and clean but I didn't feel really comfortable in the room. Perhaps its because its an old old hotel and did a so so job at upgrading. So it feel "semi-new" but not comfy as that I would want to curl up with a book and relax in the hotel room. But as a place to rest and shower, it does the job.

As others say this hotel is immediately adjacent to the Sendai train station and is connected via underground to a large department store and shopping complex. It is a fair price for a Japanese business hotel. As per most Japanese hotels the service borders on fawning, the cleanliness is immaculate, and the standard rooms are small by American standards. For a single business person, the size is fine. The big downside is that Wifi is only available in the lobby, but it worked flawlessly. I have heard that the nearby Westin has nicer rooms for about the same price, but the location can't be beat.

This hotel is a very short walk from the bullet train tracks. It is quiet and has excellent staff. The interior is a bit on the older side, but the rooms are quiet functional. The resturants are very good. However, Wifi is only available sitting in the middle of the lobby. Overall, it is probably hard to beat for the price.

Room Tip: Some rooms are really small by American standards, so make sure to inquire when booking.

This hotel sits right at Sendai JR station and adjacent to a department store with a huge range of places to eat - so well connected that you don't even need to go outside to go to the station, shopping or dining - which is great given the heat and humidity in summer (or cold in winter).

We stayed in several hotels in Japan on this trip, and the Hotel Metropolitan Sendai was by far the nicest. Fantastic location, adjacent to Sendai station and very close to the main shopping/dining areas. My wife and I had a double room - it was large by Japanese standards, and there was plenty of room for our stuff. The 160cm bed (basically a queen-size) was extremely comfortable. There was one room for the toilet, and one room for the sink with another door leading to the bath/shower (and as with most Japanese hotels, the amenities provided were top-notch). The temperature in the room was easily controlled via thermostat, and the window did open a small bit if needed. The rooms have complimentary wired internet, but if you want wireless you'll have to go to the (very spacious) lobby. There is also a business center in the lobby with computers, but ask a staff member to show you where it is. The staff spoke passable English and were very accommodating. We did not eat at the hotel restaurant – although it looked great, the prices seemed very high and there are plenty of restaurants nearby serving all kinds of wonderful food at more reasonable prices. This hotel is a great choice for exploring Sendai, and its proximity to the station makes it a great base for exploring other parts of Tohoku. I would definitely recommend this hotel for anyone visiting the region.

Room Tip: Rooms on the west side of the hotel provide a great view of downtown Sendai & the surrounding mo...

Location is fantastic! Right next door to the main shopping centres and train station (less than 2 minutes walk). The shops stay open until 9pm every night so easy to get your shopping in! Also close to lots of bars and restaurants, which was great for our quick one night stay. Sendai itself is a lovely clean city, bustling but not too busy, and all you might need. The hotel staff were brilliant - friendly and helpful. Would recommend and would stay again.
