“Excellent stay”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed May 2, 2010

The hotel is located in an excellent spot for travel (right opposite the JR station), although it's a bit out of the way for the centre of town and nightlife.
There's a large shopping centre next door to the hotel with loads of restaurants - including a very nice Indian one (a boon to those of us who are not meat eaters).
The staff were very helpful and courteous, the hotel was spotlessly clean, the rooms were very nice and modern.
All in all, a pleasant and convenient place to stay.

First of all, please note that, as a place for sojourn in Takamatsu, you cannot expect any better location than this hotel, which is adjacent to the JR station, and the Kotoden station and city centre, which is good for shopping and eating, is in 10 minute walk.
And also, if you fly to and from Takamatsu, this hotel is the terminal of airport busses.
As a base for sightseeing, we considered this hotel, Onsen inns in the Kotohira city and Auberge de Ooishi in the suburb of Takamatsu as candidates, and now we realize that we made a good choice. I must add that the hotel is rather new and well maintained, and I would recommend that you should select harbor view rooms in high floor.
Being one of the largest hotels in the city, its restaurants are very likely to be congested during particularly breakfast time, however, we would still like to recommend this hotel when you come to Takamatsu for sightseeing or business. You will be pleased and satisfied with its convenience and atmosphere.

This ANA hotel has a great location, immediately across the plaza from the JR station. It is an elegant property, run in the tradition of a fine hotel. (It's bakery's pastries alone are worth a visit to stop and sample!) There are plenty of good restaurants within easy walking distance, and the town's mega -arcades are but three blocks away. The bus station and local train is within steps.

Check in was effortless, the room was both spacious and had a commanding view of the harbor. It was also very quiet, despite the evidence that we had neighbors. The beds were quite comfortable and the pillows were in ample supply. The bathroom was equipped with the basic amenities found in most Japanese hotels, which did not include bar soap. (Liquid soap only.) The Internet service was free, fast, and easy to connect to. The staff was consistently enthusiastic and pleasant.

Surprisingly, the carpets in the guest room and in much of the hotel were soiled, stained and tracked. The upholstery in the room was also stained. This problem seemed inconsistent with the overall standards of the hotel.

The breakfast buffet was good, but not great. There were no eggs made to order. The pastries alone compensated for the minor shortcomings.

The only other problem I encountered related to the complexity of the television system. The remote was entirely in Japanese, which I do not find insurmountable, but even after using the translation sheet, I found the tiers of stations difficult to access and cumbersome.

In sum, I think the ANA Takamatsu is a good choice; not perfect, but a pleasant and comfortable place to stay.

My wife and I stayed one night at the ANA Hotel Clementine in October during a professionally related trip there. My Japanese colleagues had made all the arrangements, including the meals we had there. First, the location is outstanding as this modern, spacious hotel sits across the plaza from the train station and immediately adjacent to the harbor and large open spaces on the waterfront. This provides beautiful views and a lovely place to walk or run (and a surprising number of locals were up running the next morning). Second, the room were beautifully appointed and very comfortable. The bathroom was almost as large as some of the entire hotel rooms I have stayed in Japan! The restaurants were excellent and in particular prepared superb vegetarian meals to accommodate our food preferences. We are serious "foodies" and they were incredibly creative in using and preparing local seasonal foods. Can't say enough good things about this place. One more example: my wife left a note for the chef to thank him for his flexibility and creativity in preparing the vegetarian meals. We received a personal letter from the chef in the US the week after we returned thanking us for our "thanks" and our business. Need we say more?

4 of 5 stars Reviewed April 23, 2008

My husband and I stayed in this hotel for four nights in April. Our room was large, comfortable, and decorated with good quality furniture and restful, pleasing colors. It was quiet and boasted a fascinating view of the harbor. Service was good, albeit a bit impersonal. The staff spoke some English, but definitely were not fluent. Emergency exits were marked "private." We found most of the restaurants in the hotel too expensive for our budget, but the bar was attractive, the bakery provided delicious bread and pastries for breakfast in our room, and the Japanese restaurant was excellent and moderately priced. The hotel's location is great. It is part of an attractive new port development, with two train stations, a bus terminal, the ferry terminal, and the tourist office all practically at the doorstep.
